Basically Pj will tell Cal when he’s not in pain and can play. He’s healthy but him and his family will make the call.

This sport is sucking like never before.

This was easy to see this was happening from the jump. Something worried his family and they’re gonna hold out. The cast is for pain only. Which makes very little sense but these families are more paranoid than ever so......

That’s the story. That’s it. He will play when he wants to, if he does at all.

I agree with you in principle, but PJ isnt Jared Vanderbilt. He'll be ready to go next weekend. But as far as an overall indictment of the current pervasive culture in CBB and the NBA (sitting every other day for "load management"...load of **** management maybe) I totally agree. I care less about basketball each passing season and just devote more time to music, and following football and baseball.

Hopefully the proposed NBA rules changes take effect and basketball can get back to what it was.

Kenny Payne says in the article “As his pain goes, he’ll tell us when he’s going to play.” “trying to buy time so he can get back on the floor.”
No specific description of the injury other than “foot sprain.”
PJ’s father says main concern is his health, not holding him out for nba.
So who knows. i’m just going to assume that he’s not coming back, but still hope that he does.

He ain’t playing again. And I worry about the precedent.

We get it you think he isn’t playing again. You’ve said this a good dozen times today and ain’t no telling how many times yesterday and the day before that and the day before that.

Move on dude.

The problem is the NCAA and the schools are so afraid of the new grievance that it’s allowing the players to control the programs and that shouldn’t happen. It will only deteriorate the sport and it has. ESPN is fully behind the professionalism angle and they apply the pressure for the grievance.

You have to recruit players that have guts. You have to recruit dogs. Fringe first rounders worried about a sprain won’t do you any good and this is why.

People can deny it, it’s real.

Pj is not like Vanderbilt. I don’t know why that keeps getting thrown around. Vanderbilt has a posse that was a bunch of punks and they tried to sit it out all year. How is that anything like this? Don’t see it.

But this is an issue that needs to be addressed. His own father just said he wasn’t hurt, that it’s about some pain, which guys play through all the time. And his pain isn’t 10/10. It’s that comment that worries me we won’t see him again. He’s lying (or over exaggerating) why make it worse than it is?

I'm cheering for the guys that are dressed out if we win then great. If pj doesn't think he can go than so be it. Let's get behind the guys we have because Im finished being worried about 20 year old. Good luck to him

Same here. I feel bad for some of the posters here as they clearly have absolutely nothing else in life to do once our season ends. It's sad.

Ky fans are coaches, Doctors, trainers, scouts and no matter what there will be some braindead fans in any program!!! Bottom line is a sprain in your foot is dangerous and can lead to a broken foot if not careful! Thus is exactly why he's in a boot. I understand the selfish bs shots at Cal, PJ his family and the NBA. But it's uncalled for, I have 2 best friends,, 1 I grew up with was an NBA assistant, head college coach the other is a scout for the Thunder. Both of them say it is what it is., a fairly serious injury that needs time to heal. (Not 3-6 wks, but at least 7-15 days due to possibility of a break due to compensating weight) They both say Cal always holds his cards close to his chest. ( which I can see due to opponents game planning).

Yes PJ wants to play, but you absolutely can not blame him, his dad and Cal for him not playing!!! It's COMMON SENSE to be safe and let's see how it heals!!! I'm 110% sure PJ and every Ky fan, coach Cal and I want him out there vs Wofford! So please stop tweeting, posting crap that is anti PJ, coach Cal and Ky Basketball!!! Yea I get frustrated as anyone!!! I throw stuff, yell, cuss, drink when we lose but at the end of the day it's a game!!! And I will stand behind Cal, our staff players no matter what!!!!

You’re a joke of a fan.

Just making sure my fellow UK fans know that but I trust that they do.
Again I know you are frustrated. Just admit it. No big deal.

We will cheer on the guys who are playing. I think we can win tomorrow without PJ.

The draft will be here before you know it.

I dont want to overreact because I love my Cats, and I love sports. But if this culture doesn't change, and just gets worse to where guys begin sitting whole months and semesters, Im going to reevaluate whether I follow CBB at all, or perhaps just start putting my support behind a lower program.

I cant stand the NBA and some of this has trickled down. I get why the guys do it, but I have no interest in following teams and players that do that crap.

This is more of an overall discussion. I dont feel PJ is doing that at all and people are losing their minds. He's a competitor and he'll be ready to go for us next Thursday. I just hope Nick's *** can cash the check his mouth wrote.

I feel we have had others ease up, down the stretch. but, we have too much love for OUR UK and turned a blind eye and let it slide...

The OP certainly knows one thing - you are far more likely to have “insider info” accepted as such, IF it has a positive spin.
Lol!
Some truth here, but overstating pop’s presence in this. PJ’s pain and likely effectiveness w that pain is being evaluated constantly. There really isn’t a draft component to this.

Best post I've read so far in this thread.

If PJ is not injured and is only sitting out until the stakes get higher, then our program has a problem that may not get fixed until the NBA allows kids to go straight from HS.

I am beginning to think that PJ’s dad is holding his son out for these first 2 games because his play in them will not help his draft position. However, if we can make it to the Sweet 16 and play against better teams, then it will be “worth it” to play.

Of course this is all speculation, but from how all of this is developing, it appears that PJ’s Dad is behind all of it.

Yea I was agreeing. I don’t know why that comparison is even being used. I guess because both seem to “choose” to sit, but at least Pj played multiple years.
I dont think PJ is choosing to sit out, hes obviously got an injury. We just dont know how severe because Cal is always coy. In season, I can understand. If PJ is done, we are seeded and locked in. Makes zero difference announcing it now or after season.

Vanderbilt was clearly overly cautious and chose to listen to his handlers. I get Cal not running a guy into the ground and risking it, but Im not gonna support a guy whos healthy enough to play choosing not to. Im not going to pretend to give a **** about anyone's NBA stock. I dont know why some of our fans do, my guess is they are teens or at UK and arent old enough to have known anything else so they dont see the ******** for what it is.

If its a players best interest to sit, its OK. So why isnt it OK as a money paying fan for me to want whats best for my team, which is to have the best players on the court so we win? The fact is, both are completely valid.

Agreed.

This all feels like it should be an offseason discussion. I dont want to add fuel to the fire that PJ is dogging it with this, because I dont believe that's the case at all.

I will say, if it turns out that is what is happening, I know most fans won't, but I'll be doing a lot of thinking about whether Im going to keep up with UK basketball going forward. I get all the reasons, and if I were in their shoes whos to say I wouldn't protect my interests at making millions. But Im not, Im a fan. And if Im going to invest money and time, it needs to be worth while. I only like basketball as a sport because of UK, so for myself personally, Im totally fine just following baseball and basketball.

Diallo coming in for a semester, finding out he wasnt good enough to jump also never sat well with me. Yeah, he came back. But it was because he couldnt go pro, not because of a love for UK. Get real Hami with those tweets he put out.

Anyway, to reiterate, I believe PJ is good to go on Thursday for, my guess, Iowa State.

If that’s true and pj doesn’t play i think cal will take a lot of criticism and lose trust with some of the fan base.

No, I am NOT saying “it’s a fake injury”.

What I AM saying is that I think it’s not as serious as what is being told and that PJ’s father doesn’t want his son to play in these first 2 games because the risk is not worth the reward.

Like I said above, this is only SPECULATION!! Laugh all you want, I’m just putting up another POSSIBLE scenario.
