Extra steps, lifting the pivot foot, sliding

How can you guard talented players who walk as much as Duke? On the last 3, he caught the ball, took two steps to his left and then shot the ball - Okafor is a walking machine.

It's sickening.

Auguste and some of the ND guards did it a few times last night too. It's like the refs forgot traveling was a thing.

The constant bitching about officiating is more irritating than the actual officiating.

I love basketball. Played it through a year of college and have coached all levels of both girls and boys through high school varsity. I can barely watch any game nowadays because of the officiating.

By my estimates:

90% of jump stops now are walks. You are supposed to jump, THEN gain control of the ball. Not gain control and then jump.

95% of the time when they anchor the ball on their hips they walk.

80% of spin moves are a walk. If you aren't still dribbling into the spin move, 100% of the spin moves are a walk.

Probably 40-50% of the time when they just catch the ball out front and then square up they walk.

If you go by the actual game rules, there would probably be anywhere from 5-10 walks every possession that isn't a fast break...maybe more.

And that doesn't even begin to get into the fouling and flopping.

agree with everything you say here...couple more comments...

players today move so fast, then when they try the jump stop or euro, it's very difficult to tell if the grab is before or after they leave their feet....stripes just swallow the whistle if they aren't certain..

also, after establishing a pivot foot, you can lift it on a shot or pass, just can't put it back down before letting ball go...

Also, if it was 1960, just about every single guard dribbling the ball would be called for palming the ball.

Agree Flash10, also want to add double dribble where they slap the ball to themselves, or drop it and then take off dribbling. Don't get me started on palming. The sad part is all this should help the offense and they still can't score in college. The rules have changed and we just didn't get the memo.

I don't get it, but I've never been a ref. To me, traveling is one of the easiest calls to see and make. Very clear. There can be no misinterpretation, or bias.

Is it just me or has officiating gotten much worse as the tournament goes on? I'm not really surprised an organization like the NCAA can't find competent refs for the biggest games of the year.

Basketball starts to look more like football while football starts to look more like basketball.

Why are you assuming they are incompetent? What you said followed to a conclusion is that the officiating is exactly what the NCAA wants.

There are still people who want to believe wrestling is real to the point they deny the obvious. If officials do something the NCAA doesn't want, they either get fired (karl hess) or they get demoted to the meaningless games.

I'm guessing English is your 2nd language?
My team has two more games left, keep up!

Oh I see, so your Tards are playing a couple prison yard storming consolation games in Eddyville to close out the season?

Grats!
