This. We need perimeter players who can create off the dribble. I like Hammond fit better bc of it.Yeah, but we also need guys that can create their own shot, something Wright doesn’t really do

Jones was a big 4 star recruit. It obviously didn't work out but that doesn't mean you can retroactively go back and re-write history. He was on the national stage in like 6th gradelanding jaden jones means zero.....he probably wasnt a big time recruit
Maybe coaches knew he wasnt really a 4 star recruit. Maybe there was a reason he didnt end up at other schools.Jones was a big 4 star recruit. It obviously didn't work out but that doesn't mean you can retroactively go back and re-write history. He was on the national stage in like 6th grade
Why are you trying so hard to pretend Jones wasn't a good recruit?Maybe coaches knew he wasnt really a 4 star recruit. Maybe there was a reason he didnt end up at other schools.
As impossible as it may be, striking a new low with a Hitler reference. Providing new definition to the term “obtuse.”For some of you, its gotta be allllll good all the time, there shall be no criticism of any sort. Anyone who says pike is a great man and was the right hire in 2016 but he kinda sucks at on the offensive end of the floor and recruiting is treated like they're hitler. It is okay, you are allowed to criticize where warranted.
Don’t think that’s fair to say. Not every big time kid works out for any team really.Maybe coaches knew he wasnt really a 4 star recruit. Maybe there was a reason he didnt end up at other schools.
I probably would have said it a little differently but the need for posters to be"right" does seem to cloud their ability to have an objective discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of any player, coach or program. Keep recycling the same tired points in support of their view. Yes in some respects a microcosm of our society today at large.Wrong. This is an example of our country today. If you disagree with someone on the right, you’re a liberal. If you disagree with someone on the left, you’re a racist.pike has clearly recruited well, he gets no credit for it because he doesn’t get the big fish. And he wins with who he gets. I have no clue how this portal class will turn out, but given his success here at Rutgers, the quiet majority will wait it out and see how things finish. We will also support him and the team. That’s what fans do. We would love for Rutgers to recruit like Kentucky and win like Duke. But we ain’t them. Nor do I think what we’ve become is our ceiling. I believe we can, in ANY sport, be a top third team of the B1G and win titles, even natty’s, occasionally. But it is always a slow ascent.
Need quality players badly if we want to be a top half of the league team again next year.Need players
That’s correct.Need quality players badly if we want to be a top half of the league team again next year.
Why are you trying so hard to pretend Jones wasn't a good recruit?
He has all the physical tools. It's easy to see why he was. He was proving it at camps against other D1 prospects where his team won the championship and he was MVP
He was a big 4 star recruit. It's not debatable. You don't even follow recruiting so why are you even trying to argue this? Lol you're so wrong just stop
so Hyatt, Agee, Simpson, Woolfolk mean nothing?
The argument I was making is that words matter. “Hasn’t closed on anyone” is factually untrue. This doesnt really support an argument here
This is exactly how I feelThis idea of “closing” on a player misses the mark, imo. Either a baller wants to play for Pike or he doesn’t. I prefer the guys that do.
He absolutely wasn’t lmao, he was the starter100% not a starter…he was the 8th or 9th man
Assuming you mean my original post. Anyone and target are not synonyms to me, which if they are for you, then we have a difference of opinion. I’m not suggesting we haven’t had a commit in 2 years that’d just be silly to say.The argument I was making is that words matter. “Hasn’t closed on anyone” is factually untrue.
They aren't. They are miserable know-it-alls manufacturing chest-thumping expertise in their own minds to make up for all of the real things they lack in their personal lives. Why are some of you fans?
This idea of “closing” on a player misses the mark, imo. Either a baller wants to play for Pike or he doesn’t. I prefer the guys that do.
He started 15 of their 24 games including both ncaa tournament games. Literally takes 2 seconds to look this stuff up buddy.100% not a starter…he was the 8th or 9th man
There isn’t one person on his board who isn’t disappointed we didn’t land Wright. Not sure what your argument is.Wright would’ve been great for us. Exactly the type of player I’d like to see us bring in - experienced, long, can shoot, doesn’t dominate the ball with the dribble. People can spin it anyway they want but this one hurts. And it should hurt; it’s ok to care.
Others have a different view and that’s fine too. I’m not looking to change minds here but when people are disappointed and frustrated it simply makes them disappointed and frustrated as opposed to “bad fans.”
Rutgers needs to replace the scoring of Harper and Baker which is 28 points and potentially another 8 points from McConnell. The point being multiple scorers must be recruited for next season. Its not solely a Wright or Hammond decision.Unfortunate, wrights a very good player but Marcus Hammond is by no means a settle, he’s very good and may fit us better.
Huh? Never said we shouldn’t be recruiting. The final decision rests with the player, does it not? I prefer guys who want to play for a coach like Pike versus any other coach that may be recruiting them. This makes no sense.
Are you saying the coaching staff shouldn't be recruiting players? Only sign players that just natually want to come here on their own?
So then what exactly are the coaches doing during recruiting? What are they getting paid to do?
The whole point of hiring and paying assistant coaches who are "ace recruiters" so that they talk players into coming here who wouldn't naturally pick Rutgers.
I see a pattern of three consecutive ncaa tourney quality teams. What he’s doing, I’m liking. It is absolutely fair to say that Pike has missed on a lot of recruits. Something is not working. It is a pattern. To deny this is ridiculous.
Last season Jones was expected to play that type of role, especially after reports in summer and scrimmages of him scoring wellHammond looks like he can help us - I think a big issue with pikes strategy is he’s the kind of guy that could’ve helped us a lot more last season but Pike chose not to add a guard that could improve the team.
Would be nice to land this kid though looks like we have a good shot
This is just a failure in your expectations and not understanding recruiting. It is absolutely fair to say that Pike has missed on a lot of recruits. Something is not working. It is a pattern. To deny this is ridiculous.
Part of Pikiell's job is to sell guys on Rutgers and make them want to come here and pay for him.Huh? Never said we shouldn’t be recruiting. The final decision rests with the player, does it not? I prefer guys who want to play for a coach like Pike versus any other coach that may be recruiting them.
Another straw man. I don't think anyone thinks Pike is an ace recruiterI don't get why some can't acknowledge pike isn't a good recruiter LOL. And by some I mean majority. I'd say 90%+ of people here think any criticism of pike is out of bounds and cannot be done
