He logged minutes against Gonzaga too. I expect he will leave Memphis tho, they were much better without him playing.
Wonder if Michigan State would take him? They were the favorite until Penny made an offer he could't refuse.

Thanks .... I did not realized that he had returned to Memphis. Had read that he left because of back problems according to his Dad. Was just wondering if he would stay there.

Bates is raw but has a ridiculously high ceiling. It isn't Cals style but if Sharpe leaves and we are left with a bunch of role players again, I'd take him ina heartbeat and run the offense through him. Let him be "the man" like he wants to be. Better than watching the weave for 25 seconds with undersized and underathletic guards bc you know we aren't going to run an O to get good shooters good looks consistently.

He had better stats in less minutes playing in more meaningful games than Boston on a much more successful team. Plus Bates was a year and a half younger than Boston
They were not a much more successful team in the games he played. They were almost .500 in a mid major conference until he left the team and they went on a tear.

Uh hell no!!
Want no part of him.
When the team gets better, as soon as you stop playing, uh... that says it all.

I hate to say it but even the early season Memphis team would have destroyed the Boston UK team.

That’s also for penny who has shown to not be as good at meshing elite talent. He truly just lets the players run the show. Bates was also barely 18 so another year of maturity helps.

The one thing that isn’t debatable as a Cal strength is his ability to get Elite player personalities to buy in. I’d be willing to take the chance. I’d rather have that type of talent on the team and try to get it to commit to being a team player than not have that type of talent on the team. Medium risk/high reward. Worse case, you bench him and play him in spot minutes at most...the same way Penny did

They did not become “a much more successful team” until after Bates stopped playing. They were crap during the part of the season when he was starting.

Why is he not eligible?

Because he’s only 18, the Ypsilanti native will have to wait an additional year before he’s eligible to declare for the NBA Draft.

The former 5-star recruit has the option of returning to Memphis for his sophomore season, though he could choose to transfer and play for another school, or he could forego college altogether and play professionally whether in the NBA G-League or another professional league.

Dillingham may be in the same boat if he were to re-classify into the '22 class. He would be playing as a 17-year old until January. He would be a two year guy I think.

I think you are correct & I don't think you will see him reclass.

Thanks for the information. I had thought it was okay after one year of college.
I believe 18 years olds still can be drafted IF they turn 19 during the same calendar year of the draft. But Bates doesn’t even pass that test, he just turned 18 like a month or two ago.

He’s really young, which helps explain why he struggled so badly this year. Kid made a big mistake by reclassifying, he’d still be a red hot commodity if he’d stayed in the 2022 class.

I think it's a great idea to get Bates, Baldwin, and get Dillingham to reclass. Three castaways from the island of misfit 5 star toys.

What could possibly go wrong coming off this clown show of a season finish we've just experience?

Dude needs to climb the hill again. Needs to reinvent himself and work on his brand. Otherwise is a 2nd rounder now.

He didn't quit the team, he left the team. He had a "medical issue" but is back with the team.

Before the season I remember some figured he would do 1 year at Memphis and then 1 year with the G league Ignite . I’m not sure if that is still expected though
