Hey, you never know when you're going to need a gun or two on the mean streets of Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Your greatest post ever, man.UPDATE: After being cut by Eastern Michigan for being jailed on criminal charges, Emoni Bates has announced he will be transferring to Kansas University.
"It was inevitable. This is where I was meant to be all along," Bates said.
KU coach Bill Self said, "He'll fit right in. I only wish he had been here sooner to be mentored by LaGerald Vick, Josh Jackson, Carlton Bragg, Silvio DeSousa and our many other players with the kind of experience he can learn from."
Kansas is currently under five of the NCAA's most severe charges of cheating, including loss of institutional control and a direct charge that Self cheated, but the NCAA has signaled it is too weak, corrupt and indifferent to hold the program accountable.
This is the real problem. IF they tie that gun to him, (personally, with evidence), his age, ball player status, and no priors won't do much to save him. You can't play arounf with that kinda thing. Smart people with those only take those out of their private hiding spots only once, and they are never seen again. That's a burner, folks. ...unless you're young and dumb and think it's cool. The guns are likely stolen and the SN being scratched off is a problem.
I’ll take you up on that bet.Pretty good chance. But if you wanna 'bank' on stuff, mark me down for banking that he spends more time homeless or in prison than getting paid to play ball. You don't just get unlucky and find yourself in a vehicle with an illegal firearm. Those are your peeps. That's how you roll. That's a game you'll ultimately lose 100% of the time.
Same goes for pants. Ever put a pair of pants on and magically a gun appears in them? Really hate when that happens.Hate when people leave their guns in my car. It’s either that or chewing gum wrappers.
That’s a federal offense at that point isn’t it?The guns are likely stolen and the SN being scratched off is a problem.
Not to answer my own question but yes. Yes it is.That’s a federal offense at that point isn’t it?
Removed or Tampered Serial Numbers
Under federal law, 18 U.S.C. § 922(k), any individual who knowingly possesses, transports, or delivers a weapon with an altered or removed serial number can face up to a five-year sentence.
Michigan law says you can have a gun I. Your vehicle IF it’s in a case, unloaded, and locked. Or in the trunk. UNLESS you have a valid CCP/CPL. Then you can have it loaded and on you.Depends on the law, if the gun was under his seat let’s say, the law could be written that if nobody else took ownership of it that it’s his, or everybody in the car is responsible. I don’t know Michigan law.
But the car wasn't his - right? If so, he pleads the Shaggy Defense and gets off with a misdemeanor plea deal? The guns are likely stolen and the SN being scratched off is a problem.
It all hinges on ownership of the gun. They will start squeezing until they can put ownership on someone. If it really isn't his, someone will have to claim it or snitch. But the car wasn't his - right? If so, he pleads the Shaggy Defense and gets off with a misdemeanor plea deal?
If I had to guess it was probably stuck in the side of a seat or something dumb.I'm a little confused how we got from failing to stop at an intersection to finding a gun in the car. I wouldn't think running a stop sign would be enough for a search of the vehicle. Makes it more likely that he either had it on his person or it was in plain sight I would think
I’ll take you up on that bet.
Yep. The company you keep. And as I said before, if it isn't his, they're gonna want to find out who's it is. Could put Bates in a real pickle. ...in a pickle with probably not the best folks you want to be in a pickle with. So, he was driving a borrowed car and can claim the gun is not his and he had nothing to do with removing the serial number from it. That might work for him. He's suspended from the team until this matter is resolved, which will likely not happen until after the season starts. He may have dodged a bullet. If his prints are on the weapon, he's right back where he was, though.
IF he manages to come out of this without a conviction, the other issue that needs to be addressed is the crowd he is surrounding himself with. This could be a huge learning experience for him if he will take it as that. Assuming the gun truly isn't his, he borrowed this car from someone who is a shady character and he needs to get away from such people. If he manages to get out of this without any long term consequences, this should be a wake-up call.
This is one of the dangers for guys like this returning to their hometown area for college. All the people who knew him growing up are right there and the hangers-on are numerous. Any mistakes from your past tend to crop up and any shady characters you knew will surely find you. He may need to transfer again just to get away from this.
Yikes

Or their weed or coke.Hate when people leave their guns in my car. It’s either that or chewing gum wrappers.
Yeah. Filed off serial numbers means FBI and ATF involvement. They’re going to want to know where those guns came from. If car isn’t his, owner will be questioned. If owner doesn’t own the guns it comes back on Bates.Yep. The company you keep. And as I said before, if it isn't his, they're gonna want to find out who's it is. 10 to 1 the cop smelled weed, giving him probable cause to search the car. Found the gun. That's a common occurrence on On Patrol Live. Society loves the Bates of the world. He’s a 18 year old criminal. Now does he get a second chance? Sure, and a third and a forth. He has the means to hire a great lawyer to get him a favorable deal. Add to it that he’s only 18 with no priors, he’s enrolled in school and earns income. He will accept a plea deal that gets him probation and community service. You can bank on that.
Number one cause, is that weed in the car sir?10 to 1 the cop smelled weed, giving him probable cause to search the car. Found the gun. That's a common occurrence on On Patrol Live. (Formerly LivePD)
Young, thinks he's a badass hood thug, cool and oppressed. This is the real problem. As soon as I saw this thread I knew there was a 100% chance it would turn racist. This probably wasn’t even the worst comment. And before you try to defend yourself and do the “you’re the real racist for being divisive” routine, everyone knows what “thug” is a euphemism for. And the sarcastic “cool and oppressed” really shows your disdain. You’ll try to play mental gymnastics explaining your thinly veiled, dog whistle rhetoric, but you ain’t fooling me.Young, thinks he's a badass hood thug, cool and oppressed.
Plenty of white thugs running around out there. They are called BLM and Antifa. Yes sir I'm such a racist that I taught my children so badly that two of them are in mixed marriages and have given me 4 beautiful grandchildren. As soon as I saw this thread I knew there was a 100% chance it would turn racist. Lol they came to your suburban neighborhood, destroyed property and demanded to live in your home right? Turn off Newsmax for 10 minutes and touch grass goofball.Plenty of white thugs running around out there. They are called BLM and Antifa.
Have black and Mexican neighbors, and yes blm and antifa destroyed plenty in the malls and shopping areas around our area hence they are all thugs to me no matter what color. Sure you approve highly of these groups...you are dismissed again.Lol they came to your suburban neighborhood, destroyed property and demanded to live in your home right? You do realize where that word ACTUALLY came from and why it’s used to refer to criminals yes?As soon as I saw this thread I knew there was a 100% chance it would turn racist. Yes, this. However, I doubt anyone else is going to volunteer ownership of the altered gun.It all hinges on ownership of the gun. They will start squeezing until they can put ownership on someone. If it really isn't his, someone will have to claim it or snitch.
