Normally I agree, but you don't hold a person in jail without some legit smoke. Especially a higher profile person that can't exactly disappear in public. You can go find a person like Bates pretty easily if you needed to later on.Interesting. We should all reserve judgment until the "more to come."
Yikes
I'm thinking Jules Camara could have used your reasoning as well. He hopped from the driver side to the passenger side upon being pulled for a DUI, and claimed the driver must have run off!Lot of grey area. Easy to say it wasn't his or didn't know it was in there. Even harder to PROVE that it was his. There would have to be strong evidence linking him and the firearm. Photo evidence or multiple eye witnesses. But, "two felony charges" and the fact that he's been arrested and being held certainly doesn't sound good.
I would say maybe he was just the wheel man, but he couldn't drive very well either.Shooting was always his major issue.

Good ol' Souleymane.I'm thinking Jules Camara could have used your reasoning as well. He hopped from the driver side to the passenger side upon being pulled for a DUI, and claimed the driver must have run off!
Ooops, that's a biggie. The serial numbers on the gun were scratched off as well
Really??The serial numbers on the gun were scratched off as well
Felony for conceal carry? Really? Glad I don't live there.
Most of the problems with Bates seems to start with his father, who apparently makes LaVar Ball look like Father of the Year. Penny had to know what he was getting into when he signed Emoni.I wouldn't wish ill on anyone and I hope this all turns out to be a mistake of some kind. However, maybe I should apologize to Penny for not being able to get this kid lined out at Memphis because I didn't think he could coach talented players. It seems this guy may have some deeper issues than just being lazy or trying to coast on talent alone, if this all turns out to be what it seems to be.

It was a borrowed car. So, they'll need strong evidence it was in fact his. But, I do know one thing... Bates is the type of dude that (at the very minimum) would borrow a vehicle from the type of person that has the character level that would have a firearm with removed serials. I don't have to know if the gun was his or not to tell me the level of character Bates has and the type of person he wants to portray. You associate with your own. They don’t have to prove anything if it’s his car. That’s all the proof they need. And the serial numbers are altered, instant felonies. Add in gun laws in Michigan, he’s probably screwed.

I read it right before. I was gonna post it here, but just put it my response. Could've been new info added.Ah I didn’t catch that. Does change things a bit. But I still bet he goes down.
He has the means to hire a great lawyer to get him a favorable deal. Add to it that he’s only 18 with no priors, he’s enrolled in school and earns income. He will accept a plea deal that gets him probation and community service. You can bank on that. They don’t have to prove anything if it’s his car. That’s all the proof they need. And the serial numbers are altered, instant felonies. Add in gun laws in Michigan, he’s probably screwed. I’m not sure what you mean here.
Also, Bates is legal to purchase a handgun, so that means more than likely these guns were used or about to be used in a crime. There’s no telling what he’s been involved in before, I mean Memphis.
I see no way he ever recovers from this. He wasn’t that good anyway and no NBA team is gonna take on that kind of baggage. The guy just lost his career, earnings, the pros, and a college degree in one failure to stop. Idiot.
Pretty good chance. But if you wanna 'bank' on stuff, mark me down for banking that he spends more time homeless or in prison than getting paid to play ball. You don't just get unlucky and find yourself in a vehicle with an illegal firearm. Those are your peeps. That's how you roll. That's a game you'll ultimately lose 100% of the time.He has the means to hire a great lawyer to get him a favorable deal. Depends on the law, if the gun was under his seat let’s say, the law could be written that if nobody else took ownership of it that it’s his, or everybody in the car is responsible. I don’t know Michigan law.Lot of grey area. Easy to say it wasn't his or didn't know it was in there. Even harder to PROVE that it was his. That’s gonna be a problem for sure. The serial numbers on the gun were scratched off as well
The guns are likely stolen and the SN being scratched off is a problem. If no crimes were committed and those guns were not involved in any previous crimes, not sure how these charges won't be plead down to misdemeanors and a hand slap.
