I love the optimism for someone who has no chance in hell of ever playing for Iowa again
You may be right but if she does and develops her overall game she could be a plus for this team. With Feuerbach being a senior and Rodriguez's future up in the air, we'll need an athletic wing from the portal.

Wasn't Owen a pretty good cheerleader?
Actually, no he wasn't. Thats how you could tell he'd checked out with his pinky injury. I remember one game where we came back on some PS hero ball and the players were all going crazy, and the only one who looked totally disinterested was Freeman. No high fives and everybody pretty much ignored him. The players all knew he was gone already....

Back injuries can end careers, but hopefully she can get healed up.
Yes they can. Still its pretty weird how we went from back injury "day to day". to :"well shes still on the team FOR NOW", to she's been suspended indefinetly, to "we worked it out, she's back with us", to "back injury, day to day". This mystery back injury started like 6 weeks ago, yet she's still "day to day"?

I don't think she would be on the bench if she had no chance in hell of playing again.
Maybe? Were it not for everything else that's occurred prior to where we are today, it would all look a whole lot different. Her wildly out of control play leading up to a long term injury that nobody saw, the weird qualified comments from Jan regarding her status with the team, the subsequent suspension and then non-suspension with no reason given, and now a continuation of not playing with no updates on her status for weeks makes her situation with the team seem questionable at best.

At a minimum there was much more than an injury situation going on here that created a problem with the staff. The only question is whether that was truly resolved or not. To suggest otherwise is really a stretch.

This^^

My guess is she worked out a "deal" with Jan where she has to "show up" for everything she committed to (practice, games, etc) and Jan will help her get a medical redshirt at the end of the year. That way she can play somewhere else and not lose a year. It's the same thing we saw w/ Freeman. She would have been a key piece of the puzzle if she could have played just a little more under control....

Not a stretch at all. If there was still bad feelings between them she wouldn't be on the bench or part of the team. Nobody knows for sure what went on between them. Right now everything looks like it's hearsay.

Is Emely still with the team?
Jan: As of today, yes.
Is Emely suspended?
Jan: We handled it internally.

Huge, huge stretch, but we'll agree to disagree.

You don't think it's possible to make amends.
Of course. My point was that this didn't start out as an injury situation. There was obviously something else significant that was going on and since then it has evolved into an ambiguous injury situation that nobody is commenting on. We're now in week 7 of an injury that nobody saw occur. Could it all be injury related today? Sure. Does everything that led up to this make it likely? Not really.

Emely is a young player. Suggesting she is wildly out of control is hyperbolic based on play in one game, that wasn't that far off from what we see from Stremlow. There is good and bad that comes with players wanting to make things happen. She's a sophomore, and certainly coachable to becoming the best version of herself.

She might be done, she might not be, but keep the narrative in perspective if you want Iowa to ever attract dynamic players in the portal.

The thing I would question is why the “day to day” tomfoolery, If she worked out a deal why not just say out for year with injury and be done with it.

All true, and frankly how can a 7 week injury be "day to day"? At this point if the "injury" was really the reason she wasn't playing at the start of this and thats still the reason, thats pretty darn hard to believe. Her injury would have had to have been pretty significant, to be out this long and still have no timetable, and no work toward a possible return projected.

I'm being completely fair. Her play during the last 2 games leading up to her suspension/injury was in fact wildly out of control and the reaction of Iowa coaches on the bench supports my assertion. Stremlow plays aggressive but is always looking to pass the ball. Her assist/TO rate is 1.5-1. Emily's is .78-1. Apples and oranges.

Fair distinction, but maybe roll that back a year with Strem. Maybe a more fair comparison. Are you asserting, given those two games, that Emely is uncoachable? I think that's the point I'd make. It's a very small sample of a player, and nobody is really even talking about her upside that was evident in all the games preceding that week. Just sounds like you are trying to break mental ties to a player that, as of today, is still a Hawkeye.

Honestly I'm just not that emotionally invested over any player. All I care about is team results. You have people on here that are super invested in Deal or Hannah or Emely. That's not me. Do I care if Emely plays for Iowa again? Not really as I don't see her integral to the team's success this year. Events suggest to me that she won't, but I dont pretend to know more than anyone else. We have a starting 5 plus Stremlow and Houston. Iowa will win or lose with those 7 playing most of the minutes. If I'm invested in anyone today it's those players.

I don't know exactly what is going on with her, but it's possible she could have a back injury that's day to day. I doubt many of you have any idea about Jess Settles' situation when he was at Iowa. It's possible that some conspiracy theorists might look back down the road and find they look as stupid about Emily as they did with Kylie.

It’s possible, but if I were Jan I wouldn’t want someone on the team who doesn’t really want to be here.

Honestly, I have no idea. All I'm saying is its pretty damn weird how this started almost 2 months ago as some vague back injury, and was "day to day". Then after a great deal of questions and Jan herself saying she was still on the team "for now", (a freudian slip)? Then, Oh, she's suspended, then she's back, and then after 7 weeks her injury is still "day to day", and yet it doesn't sound like she's even able to practice. That really doesn't sound day to day.
