No. I meant Cal should revisit his recruiting philosophy a little differently, IMO. Recruit the best of the best, but we've gotta have some return. Building from the ground up every year requires your Freshman to be great. Every one of them. If a few are off, then your left scrambling.

Right now, I'm starting to feel just like last season. When our guards are good, we're rolling. When they're off, we look like a mediocre team. We have 1 low post scorer, and we don't rebound well. We shouldn't have to live and die by how good our incoming Freshman class is every year. That doesn't mean we can't make a run. Cal has shown that many times.
I understand what you're saying but even the teams that have veteran players stuggle at times. Unfortunately we're young and we struggle early. The 38-1 team was fun. The 2012 team was fun. Some years it works out. Some years we're going to be slow. But we'll never be Billy Gillipie bad again. Haha

Louisville is not very good. We just played piss poor. These games are expected when you have almost zero return every year. I think Cal needs to take a hard look at how he builds his team's. Building your team from the foundation up every year is too much.

They are not very good at all. That's what makes the loss that much worse.

It's really not a crazy overreaction. Someone posted about our defense after the UNC win and just got destroyed by posters on here. We've played three teams with high level guards and wings and all three have really exposed our defense. It's a legitimate concern that may still be a question come March, since probably only Kansas can exploit it moving forward.
UofL scored a whopping 73 points tonight so how did we get exposed? The shots they hit tonight were the same ones they've been missing all season. It was a rivalry game in which they played their best game of the season by far and yet if we just hit free throws down the stretch we win. Or if Monk wouldn't have gone 1-9 from three we win. We play them again on a neutral court and it's a 15-20 point game.

one thing these guys will learn from tonight's game is THAT FREE THROWS MATTER!! They seem to approach them with a lackadaisical attitude. Our guys can shoot FTs, but tonight they shot them like they didn't matter. And, the ones in the first half count just as much as ones in the last 2 minutes. One other comment: I thought the officiating was excellent. I rarely say that, since I have been an official. But, I didn't see any blown or stupid calls in this game.

Louisville was home and played inspired...Our defense was iffy. I thought we should have attacked more...We settled for bad shots

Most of your post is conjecture. What is fact is that every high level team we have played has had one of its best offensive games. At some point, it's not a coincidence. 73 points is significant for this offensively challenged Louisville team. Acting like it's not an issue is just silly. I'm not saying it can't be fixed, but defense has been an issue against the three legit ranked teams we've played.

Come on Fans we had a chance to tie with last second shot and we are playing in Louisville which is #10 not like UL is 5-5 and not even ranked. The one problem is that Monk just didn't have the shot going like he did against UNC Saturday. Briscoe played 32 minutes and was 1-5 from the floor. Bam missed 5 fts and Fox missed 4 fts and if we hit 7-8 of the 10 missed Free Throws we win this game. I believe UK played hard tonight we just wasn't making the shots we made Saturday. We have been averaging 96ppg and score 70 tonight and had a chance to tie at the buzzer. Mulder goes 2-3 from 3 point land in 9 minutes. I know Coach Cal doesn't like Mulder's Defense but in 9 minutes he hits 2-3 from 3 then I would have played Mulder more tonight. When you have Michigan State, UCLA, UNC, UL, and Kansas on your Non-Conference schedule you will lose 1 or 2 games. We now have to beat Kansas at Rupp and go 3-2 against these Top 10 teams. We should win most of our SEC games this year and we will be fine come March Madness Tourney Time.

This team just did not come to play today. In fact, they act like they don't even want to be there.

You do realize our guys just had a very tough & emotional win over UNC just a few days ago.... then flew 2/3 the way across the country to play this game - with little time to prepare? Tired maybe? But certainly they wanted to play and wanted to win!

I agree giving Mulder some of Briscoe's 32 minutes after Mulder playing only 9 minutes and hits 2-3 from 3 in 9 minutes. We know Coach Cal doesn't like Mulder's 'D' but his shooting could have helped tonight just a couple more 3's and we win tonight. This game in Louisville we knew would be tough no matter who has the best athletes this game will always be close even though Coach Cal was 8-1 coming in tonight. Not giving excuses but after playing in VEGAS on Saturday out West and then coming home Sunday and getting ready for this game was tough. It would have better to have this game on Saturday or Sunday evening. We also won't see too many games this year with Monk hitting 1-9 from 3. Monk usually hits at least 3-4 from three point land. Just wasn't his night for shooting. Monk does have to learn to get the better 2 point shot and doesn't have to shoot from 3 nine times. This was tough stretch to play UNC out West in Vegas and then come home and play at Louisville.

The only part that is conjecture is I think we would beat them easily on a neutral court. Giving up 73 to UofL isn't what lost the game. Going 5-22 from three and missing a bunch of crucial ft's down the stretch is what really mattered. When you play the style of play we're going with which is to play transition basketball the other team will have more possessions so of course we'll give up more points than previous Cal teams have. And against really good offensive teams like UCLA and UNC we'll give up a bunch.

The only thing I was embarrassed by was them dancing on the team logo at mid court before the game. Bush league crap that looks pretty stupid in retrospect.

I get it, but these guys should be used to these types of schedules. This isn't 1985. They travel a lot in AAU ball, etc.

I'm sure they were tired, but they should've been able to play through it. If they were this tired after 4 days of rest, how tired will they be after just 1 in the Tournament after playing a big game the day before?

Please explain how you are right?

You must have facts? Proof?

Go back and rewatch the game. There was no fight during the entire game, no emotion. They were just going through the motions and didn't even act like they cared when they lost. I'm not even talking about tears. They didn't even seem angry.

I've said before this is Cal's worst defensive team. Unless Monk is going off we are losing to every decent team we play. We have to out score every team we play. The only shooters we have are Mulder, Monk and Willis. Willis has been bad this year, Mulder won't be allowed to play much and Monk is streaky.

Bad night from Monk against a top 25 team = Loss

It wasn't our best game, but we still have 3 first round picks this year and a top 5 Offense. We will finish the year winning the SEC and likely only 5 losses.

I guess, but can you show me otherwise?
It would be my opinion as well....I get what you are saying, just don't think I would go that far.

I thought after playing the UNC game this was a bad setup for us. Would rather have played an easy game to get past the emotion of the UNC game.

Look at the UL schedule, they played nothing, lost a 22 point lead to an average Baylor team.

This game was their pre- conference big game, we had some let down which is human nature.

As much as I hate losing to them, I don't want to overreact (not that you are) and see things that really aren't there.

This team does have to improve its D....that's a fact. We had a piss poor shooting night, that happens especially after the big game against UNC.

Normally we are a good passing team, last night we tried forcing so many passes... we saw a young team that just broke down mentally.

Its a learning process.

Willis is not really included in the offense very often.

Crazy overreaction. Defense needs work for sure, but we are playing on the home court of a top 10-15 team and shooting terribly, yet in it until the end. Shows a lot this early in the year IMO.
You typically shoot terribly when you take off balance 18 footers and jack a shot up after 1 pass in an offensive possession.
Defense and shot selection are the bugaboo

Cal is a great coach and great at developing young talent. Every year he starts with freshman and by March we have a chance to win a NC. He represents our university and our fans better than anyone else that has ever coached the wildcats. He cares about the kids he recruits and does his best to help each kid make it to the next level. A lot of these kids come from poor families. If they make it to the NBA is like winning the lottery for them and the family. He is a hall a fame coach. He does not have to cheat to get good players to come to UK. Most of the kids he recruits are great kids and represent UK in a very positive manner. Our kids learn something after every game and even when we lose they learn.

When March rolls around this current group will be ready to fight for another NC. A NC is extremely difficult to attain and you need great players and a lot of luck. Some of you act like we should win the NC every year, which is just plain ignorant. NO TEAM wins the NC every year. The last team to wind consecutive NC’s for more than two years in a row was UCLA. As we all know they cheated just about every way a team could cheat to get the players they needed to win.

I have been a BBN fan since 1965 and no one on this board loves my CATS any more than I do. When I was younger I would pout for days after a loss. As I grew older I realized that our team or any team will lose from time to time. I hate it when we lose but I get over it pretty fast. Life is to short and life if more than a basketball game. You all know we always have a young team. You also know every year we go through our growing pains. You know that we will lose some games. You also know that when March comes around Cal will have these young men ready to challenge for another NC.

A lot of members seem to know more about coaching than Cal, well you don’t. If you did you would be a successful college coach somewhere. I’m sure Cal reads some of these posts and just laugh’s his a$$ off at some of the stupid BS posted on the board.

About Brad. Please lay off this kid. He is a walk on as you know and he is not getting any special playing time, because he is Cal’s son. I hope that by his junior year he will be able to contribute. This should make all of you proud and I’m sure it would make Cal proud. He chose to come to UK when he knew how hard it would be dealing with everything and all of big blue nation. What you some of you do? Make fun of the kid every chance you get. How would you like it if people were making fun of your child on this board? You might say it was a form of bullying or would you just laugh it off?

Would you consider popping over to the Nat'l board occasionally? They need some convicted people not afraid to skin their elbows once in a while.

Since you've been an official explain this to me.

Ball goes out of bounds. Neither official in position to make the call, makes a call. Then they get together and confer. Then they make the call .. and it's wrong. You saw that little sequence didn't you?
