I've said before this is Cal's worst defensive team. Unless Monk is going off we are losing to every decent team we play. We have to out score every team we play. The only shooters we have are Mulder, Monk and Willis. Willis has been bad this year, Mulder won't be allowed to play much and Monk is streaky.

Bad night from Monk against a top 25 team = Loss

Crazy overreaction. Defense needs work for sure, but we are playing on the home court of a top 10-15 team and shooting terribly, yet in it until the end. Shows a lot this early in the year IMO.

I think we played pretty hard, just not very well.

Clearly weren't ready for the hostile environment.

Really disappointed, but there is still a lot of time to get it right before March.
Very good analysis. Sky hasn't fallen

You very well may be right. We are average AT BEST unless Monk goes off.

Yeah but they aren't top 10 for offense. UL is a bad offensive team. And it's not just UL it's basically everyone. We aren't defensively shutting anyone down.

man, perspective is really different when you don't have a dog in the fight. I thought BOTH teams played hard, and well. It was up and down. I did NOT see uk being lacksidasical, nor unmotivated.....UL seemed a bit more frantic, buoyed by the crowd and having the lead. UK missed some shots down the wire, UL made some shots down the wire....

GREAT GAME..
both these teams are top 10.......

Monk was as cold tonight as he was hot against NC, this team had no leadership from the upper class men Brisco Willis , Hawk, the Ville just out played the cats.

Hate to lose but the way things have been going lately the NCAA will probably put us in the same bracket. Here's hoping for another shot at them.

Louisville is not very good. We just played piss poor. These games are expected when you have almost zero return every year. I think Cal needs to take a hard look at how he builds his team's. Building your team from the foundation up every year is too much.

This is a game Kentucky should NEVER lose.

Its one we never want to lose but it is going to happen, especially on their home floor. If we hit a handful more free throws it would have been a different outcome but it is what it is.

Hell UK was in it till the end with the usual 10ppg guy going off for 20 and UK shooting cold nearly the entire second half.

It's really not a crazy overreaction. Someone posted about our defense after the UNC win and just got destroyed by posters on here. We've played three teams with high level guards and wings and all three have really exposed our defense. It's a legitimate concern that may still be a question come March, since probably only Kansas can exploit it moving forward.

It's a tough place to be in because the reason a lot of top talent comes to UK is the good chance that you'll be in the NBA within a year. The good players are not going to return.

A blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then and I get it. However what worries me is the way we lost, not that we lost.

The hell does that have to do with anything I said?
The point you were trying to make from my point of view was call don't need to recruit the best of the best. I think he's doing a great job how's he's doing it now. Our winning percentage is one of the best.
Now if that's not the point you are trying to make...I apologize.

UK lost the way it always seems to lose to a lesser team. Subpar shooting and a guy playing lights out. That boosts his teammates and unless Uk can match the effort, it's a loss. There was no lack of effort, just got beat.

UL has lost the last how many? Like you said the squirrel gets a nut eventually.

I can handle a UL home loss and wake up tomorrow. Their loss to UK football was 100 times worse. We will be laughing at them for years over that. Next year UK will drub them at Rupp and life returns to normal.

You're right. This is just a game that I've always said Kentucky has everything to lose and absolutely nothing to gain by playing them.

Losing to the #11 ranked team is not embarassing. Louisville is a damn good team, no shame in losing to them as much as we hate them.

No. I meant Cal should revisit his recruiting philosophy a little differently, IMO. Recruit the best of the best, but we've gotta have some return. Building from the ground up every year requires your Freshman to be great. Every one of them. If a few are off, then you're left scrambling.

Right now, I'm starting to feel just like last season. When our guards are good, we're rolling. When they're off, we look like a mediocre team. We have 1 low post scorer, and we don't rebound well. We shouldn't have to live and die by how good our incoming Freshman class is every year. That doesn't mean we can't make a run. Cal has shown that many times.

Not embarrassing, they fought hard just forgot team concepts in a hostile environment. Looked young.

Gabriel had a nice couple blocks and 7 rebounds but doesn't contribute to the offense.

Willis battled, rushed a few good looks and just missed. He gets a few more of Gabriel/Humphries wasted minutes... we win.

Bam deserves 10-12 shots not 6 a game. He gets 4 more touches... we win.

Monk predictably looked for too many 3's after the big game. If he takes 4 more good twos instead of bad 3s...we win.

Fox's poor defense on Snider, missed ft's...he runs the offense instead of taking those 4 or 5 quick jumpers in the first half...we win.

Briscoe didn't do much of anything. Cal steals a few of Briscoe's minutes for Hawkins/defensive or Mulder/offense...we win.

Hind sights 20/20 they'll see it in film and move forward. I think the biggest thing will be getting Bam more touches going forward.

They'll all get better.
