There’s one, but I think you missed the point.

It’s a little narcissistic to say someone can’t mention how poor the attendance is without being there.

I live 5 hours away..doesn’t mean I’m not gonna say how it’s pretty ****** only 1k (maybe) fans show up opening night for a top 20 team. It’s stating facts.

Are the Stansbury fans still not showing up in a silent protest? Time will tell. This could be our best team to n 15 years.

I’m not one to complain about Bad Basketball Attendance, but I have complained about Bad Basketball. But, alas, I don’t buy tickets or attend the games, so, I guess my “Complaint Card” should be revoked.

I do think this will be a very good team. I was halfway criticizing the 3 pt shooting and fouling and turnover barrage during that 5-6 minute span in a sarcastic manner, errgo, these(****), because State was still curbstomping The Peay out of our opponent anyway. I actually love basketball, but I am just not driving 4 total hours round trip on a Friday after work or on a weekday for a two hour game I can watch from the recliner. I do hope to make a few Saturday games this season. This team should be fun to watch.

I remember the night the RAT for UL Lafayette hit 9 threes and they beat a good State team there were maybe 1500 people in attendance and it was the same day as a home football game against Arkansas.

Yes, you are correct....except it was not UL Lafayette....it was Northwestern (LA) State. I remember it so vividly because I was outraged about that loss. Turned out that NW State went to the dance that year and turned out to be pretty good.

Top 20 team and there may be 1000 people there. That's just embarrassing. You gonna tell me that people are sitting at home watching women play over this?
It's what happens to your early season game crowd when you basically kicked the local stalwarts out 15 years ago and break a promise while doing so. It doesn't help that it's still football season, and the high school playoffs are still gong on. I would have gone tonight, but my old high school is still playing.

This needs to be bumped to the top of Cohens priority list to try and fix. There used to be people who wanted to go to all of these games, how did they all just disappear in less than 15 years?
They were told they weren't wanted, that's what happened.

...that ULL game mentioned previously. Maybe NW State got us in similar fashion but I don’t remember that one.

This crowd decided they didn’t want to pay to be part of a legit program. They preferred to receive something for nothing
What we got pissed about is we were promised something, and the promise was broken. That's the worst possible marketing you can do. The fact remains, we were there. We got kicked out so big donors could have good seats for the 3-4 games that they actually show up for. That was a choice MSU made. It might be for the best, who knows. That being said don't ***** about early season attendance, or any attendance, if that's your stance. I have yet to see anyone sitting in the seats my Dad and I had. We didn't miss many for 25 years.

We play Sunday @ 4:00 against Hartford. It’s bring your dad day and the dad gets in FREE. Bring your child to the Hump Sunday and you literally only have to buy 1 ticket. Also concession prices are the same as football. The administration is trying everything they can to get people in the stands. I was there last night and it was absolutely pathetic. Anyone living in the GTA on this board complaining about attendance and not showing up, you are the problem. Any student on here not showing up and complaining about attendance, you too are the problem.

I think this is a major part of the problem — because it was a 6:30 game on a Friday night, only people in the Golden Triangle area are able to realistically attend. Why not make tip off at 7:30 or 8 and you can actually get people to come from Jackson or Memphis or Birmingham. I understand we don’t have control over all the top times because of tv, but surely we did last night?

I see it simply as a supply and demand thing. We reseated and raised prices over years of success and then werent successful for a period. THe people who came EVERY game were priced out for the people who pay more and dont come every game.

There is a way to fill up the stadium every game. It just doesnt provide the profit that the current method does.

Big Stansbury donors that still don't support Howland, so they don't show up or even give their tickets away?

No. That horse has been dead for a while now. What I'm talking about happened while Stans was still here

Substitute “I live 5 hours away” with any of the following other reasons (and others):

”My kids and/or local high school is in the playoffs and I attended that”

”My family needed a one week reprieve from trips to Starkville after going the last two weeks for football and heading back next week for the Arkansas game”

“I couldn’t get off work in time to get to Starkville by 6:30”

”I’m a student and I took this weekend to go home since there isn’t a home game for football”

Point is, your distance from Starkville doesn’t make you the only type of fan who has a legitimate reason for not being at the Hump last night. You are no more excused for not being there than anyone in the above categories. So, if you want to “state facts” that the attendance was poor, with the disclaimer that there are many reasons for that where it doesn’t automatically mean our fans are ******, then that is fine. But if you are just complaining about it and holding it as an indictment against our program / fanbase / athletic department, then you don’t have a leg to stand on because you weren’t there either. You made the same choice as everyone else who didn’t go.

This is what we did. The basketball crowd used to have a hard core of 2-3k mostly locals that came to most games. Those folks were essentially told they weren't wanted anymore. It was a business decision, but it alienated a lot of people who used to show up for games like last night. It is what it is.

If I understand you correctly, you are saying that we will be bad at 3 point shooting for the rest of the year because of how we shot the 3 in this game.

No,not at all. We struggled last year and I would expect to struggle again this year. Players don't just dramatically increase their shooting percentage from outside in less than a year.

We will Live and` Die by the 3 Ball...

With no experienced big men in recent years, I understood why we did that. This year it appears we have some size to supplement Ado so that we can play a bit more inside. Is that not the case?

I'm optimistic we will start seeing better attendance numbers as the season progresses, but if things don't change then this will begin to negatively affect recruiting.

One big difference is that you can watch the game in the comfort of your own hom

You're getting empty seats at even big rivalry games (I think I saw a few empty seats at top of the Georgia-Florida game). If you see an NFL game, most of the games aren't hard sellouts. All the hype about "Friday Night Lights" and you still see half-filled and quarter-filled stands at most football games (even here in Texas).

Basketball and baseball are much cheaper to attend than football, but it's still an investment in time to come out and watch the game. It's much easier to stay at home, fix your own meal and drinks, and watch the game on a 60" screen.

Pro sports franchises and colleges have to do two things:

1) Make the game-day experience more fan-friendly.
2) Present a superior product on the field or court.

It was our Achilles through late January or so last year, then we hit our stride and it was a strength more often than not after the first 4-5 SEC games were in the books
