Must have been. I'm here to eat crow, I had Creighton blowing by everyone making it to the finals and winning it. Congrats to Elm Creek, they seem to have quite a program going on there just west of Kearney. I hope they keep rolling and beat Hemingford, I know it'll be a tall order to do so.
That fireworks show was the oddest thing I have ever seen in 20 years of calling games. You just were dominated at home by a huge underdog in the playoffs yet you fire off the fireworks anyway. LOL.....
Nearly positive, Creighton did this last year as well when Exeter-Milligan beat them in the semifinals.
They do that crap after every game they win at home. The town was hoping it would come after they beat Elm Creek. Oh well, maybe next year!
Glad to see Elm Creek get this hard-fought victory! Creighton's season to remember ends on a sour note, but nothing to be ashamed of.
As for the fireworks, I don't see why everyone is bringing it down. That sounds like a pretty cool tradition to be a part of. Even if the visiting team wins, it shows great sportsmanship and respect for the game. At the same time, it helps grow school spirit in the community. For almost all the kids that get to play on that field, High School football is the only experience they will have in playing the game of football. Most of them will not go on to play in college. So, I commend you, Creighton fans, for continuing to have the fireworks after the game to help celebrate the great tradition that is the Nebraska High School Football playoffs and celebrating the achievements that your kids and your opponents were able to experience this year, even if you weren't on the winning side of the scoreboard.
How many of you think that the fireworks they added to Memorial Stadium are a neat tradition they are trying to start? I, for one, enjoy it. It's just something else that makes watching this great game even better. Better entertainment.

Coe, fantastic post. The point behind the fireworks and the smoke and the uniforms Creighton has introduced to their program is to create an unforgettable experience for high school students who may only get to experience football for their short four year careers. It has never mattered if Creighton wins or loses they shoot off the fireworks as a sign of respect for a well played game for both teams. It just happens to be that Creighton has only lost at home 3 times in the past few years but they go off no matter the outcome. They also shot the fireworks off this summer during state baseball when Creighton was defeated in the state championship to a very good Louisville team. Ask any high school kid and they will tell you they would love to be apart of that experience. I'm sure Exeter and Elm Creek players enjoyed it.

Dodge used to do it during the Cory Eikmeier era......even on the road. Saw that more than just a few times. Cool thing.
