I'm not really disagreeing with you. Yes dUKe did recruit Duval but he appeared to always be a 2nd option to other players. If they had gotten Coleman and Jackson returned to dUKe, they wouldn't have been desperate to get Duval and I doubt Duval would have picked them. When Coleman picked Texas and Jackson hired an agent and thus gave up all his remaining eligibility, Duval was the most logical candidate to help fill the hole in the backcourt, even though he comes with some baggage. Coach K isn't normally in a position where he has to take a "risk" in recruiting. Duval is extremely talented but he is somewhat of a risk whether dUKe recruited him for 2 years.
Saying that, if Cal had not gotten Green and then missed on Young, he probably would have done the same thing coach K did and go all in on Duval, but Cal got his first option. I know some will say he offered Young first which is true, but when it became obvious that Young was going to drag his recruitment out Cal went after Green and more or less said whoever commits first will be my PG. Green committed and Young quit hearing from UK. We moved on. You don't move on from a top option unless they go somewhere else, like Coleman going to Texas.
