Nice, yet small start. Will be met with lawsuits I’m sure.
of course, sanity seems to lose in courts in this bizarro worldWill head straight to the courts and probably tossed.
Conference commissioners applauded it yesterday. It’s a start. Kind of lays foundation for what they want with the Score Act. But before it was announced President even said he expects lot of stuff to go to court with legal challenges will continue. Everyone involved knows a lot more needs to be done. Unfortunately commissioners happy about it are many of the ones who are responsible for letting things get where they are now.Everyone does realize this means exactly nothing, correct? It's guidance issued to whatever shred of the department of education exists. Impacts to schools/players are precisely zero and the first time the dept of education tries something it will go straight to court and be tossed.
If the NCAA creates the rule and takes a scholarship away and makes you forfeit your games and all schools abide by the rule, then how can a student athlete sue a school to force them to sign him?Everyone does realize this means exactly nothing, correct? But that's not what this is. Executive orders aren't even rules. If the NCAA creates the rule and takes a scholarship away and makes you forfeit your games and all schools abide by the rule, then how can a student athlete sue a school to force them to sign him?
Never heard of an NFL or MLB player suing because of a league salary cap and making a team pay him what he wants.

But that's what rule the NCAA can create. The EO is the idea behind it. If all the schools follow it what's a player going to do if all the schools honor it? Sue a school to take and pay him?But that's not what this is. Executive orders aren't even rules.
All under the NCAANFL and MLB have a collective bargaining agreement.
College doesn't and would be difficult to get since each conference is its own league.
Or it could provide guidelines for congress to pass a bill to give the NCAA protection to set guidelines that make college sports fair and equitable for the money sports and olympic sports.Everyone does realize this means exactly nothing, correct? Every player in this position is going to miss a year while it goes to court.
Trump's rule is a recommendation. This is what could be done to the school....
includes a provision to review federal government grants and contracts for schools and potentially cut funding if they fail to comply with NCAA rules,
Is a player worth the above to the school to break?
Hypothetically yes it could provide a rough idea of a plan of a rule of a law. But it currently is bluster for the sake of making a headline. Effectively nothing.Or it could provide guidelines for congress to pass a bill to give the NCAA protection to set guidelines that make college sports fair and equitable for the money sports and olympic sports.
Wow, what a concept! Congress passes a bill to address a problem...Or it could provide guidelines for congress to pass a bill to give the NCAA protection to set guidelines that make college sports fair and equitable for the money sports and olympic sports.
So your solution is keep doing nothing. Thanks Margaret.Everyone does realize this means exactly nothing, correct? It's guidance issued to whatever shred of the department of education exists. This executive order is doing nothing just with a shiny announcement. But no I don't think the solution is to do nothing, I'm also in no position to do anything so you're welcome Peggy? So your solution is keep doing nothing. Thanks Margaret.
It got you crying about it. Don't think that was the goal, but good enough for me so far. This executive order is doing nothing just with a shiny announcement. But no I don't think the solution is to do nothing, I'm also in no position to do anything so you're welcome Peggy?
K cool.It got you crying about it. Don't think that was the goal, but good enough for me so far.![]()
I knew it was all about who signed it in your mind. I'll bet it wasn't signed by an autopen.Hypothetically yes it could provide a rough idea of a plan of a rule of a law. But it currently is bluster for the sake of making a headline. Effectively nothing.
(Sidenote: I do agree that something needs to be done but on the list of things a president should be focusing on, this is a footnote)
This really does go over your head that the penalty is on the school. This executive order is doing nothing just with a shiny announcement. But no I don't think the solution is to do nothing, I'm also in no position to do anything so you're welcome Peggy?
They are neither students nor employees. They are contractors. Free agents. This^^
Plus, the argument of "students...or employees?" will come into play.
wdym? Surely bureaucracy will fix the problem!Oh yeah, I love Washington DC getting involved in athletics! Something something, small government, right?
What new ncaa transfer rules? There aren't any. So no it's not going over my head. This really does go over your head that the penalty is on the school.
Take Iowa as an example. Besides the player sitting out waiting on a court decision the government will stop federal funding to the school.
Iowa had a federal grant for $363M in 23 and record $683M in 24. They will stop the funding if they chose to add the player breaking the NCAAs new rule(s).
Go ahead and fight this in court but send everyone home who was working on the research project until it's settled. Is Joe Dunksalot really worth a billion dollars to the UofI?
Oh no, maybe some of those in academia would have to go out and find a real job. It might go over your head that these players are getting paid from profit sharing revenue dollars and private donars. This really does go over your head that the penalty is on the school.

Problem is it has gotten to this point because of the ncaa, conferences, etc screwing things up past few decades with inaction. By not doing anything where after these court cases now we do need govt. action unfortunately to fix the many problems. It’s about the only way we can clear these issues up where we don’t have court cases after court case and dealing with messes like bama bball G league player fiasco.Oh yeah, I love Washington DC getting involved in athletics! Something something, small government, right?
I never said that. Simply that this is guidance (at best) for rules that don't exist yet. Political affiliation, of which I have none, has nothing to do with this.I knew it was all about who signed it in your mind. I'll bet it wasn't signed by an autopen.
Will have to rule on the legality of the EO? It is clearly illegal. I doubt it receives a Supreme Court review.SCOTUS will have to rule on this.
Sure. Have salary cap for what the schools can pay. Then the car dealer comes over the top with more money.A salary cap and required transparency seems more important imo and would have a higher likelihood of surviving legal challenges. That said, at least something is being tried.
What new rule? JFC you didn't read a fooking thing. Lol . Continue on, I can't argue with stupid. What new ncaa transfer rules? There aren't any. So no it's not going over my head.
Edit: sorry there is one but it's about signing players before they've officially entered the portal which I assumed was never allowed but must not have specifically been listed.
Is the geek getting 400k from the school to underwrite his private venture?Sure. Have salary cap for what the schools can pay. Then the car dealer comes over the top with more money.
you lose in court trying to stop the car dealer.
nobody cares if the geek writes a phone app that makes money and they transfer schools but god forbid somebody screw up my TV watching, then we need a law to stop it.
JFC over your head too. It's not about getting paid, it's about only being allowed to transfer ONCE IN COLLEGE and what will happen to the school if they allow enrollment to a student athlete a 2nd time.Oh no, maybe some of those in academia would have to go out and find a real job. It might go over your head that these players are getting paid from profit sharing revenue dollars and private donars.
Did they rule on Trump's EO that allowed the military service men and women who were discharged because they didn't get their covid shot.SCOTUS will have to rule on this.
I'm willing to admit I'm wrong if you show me the new rule. I haven't seen one other than the ghost transfer rule and haven't found anything searching online. This EO isn't a rule and the NCAA hasn't approved anything that I'm aware of.What new rule? JFC you didn't read a fooking thing. Lol . Continue on, I can't argue with stupid.
