I dont agree but it is not my decision. Support the kid, he is chasing his dream, be respectful of that.

Be thankful he chose to play at Kentucky in the first place. Dont be an ***!

Kentucky will be fine!

Save this message....

Kentucky will add 2 more bigs!! Brown, Banchero, Kuminga, Haarms, another transfer name not mentioned yet.

I don't see him getting drafted. Hope he likes playing overseas.

I truly don’t even think he’s good enough to play at a high caliber overseas program.

He is simply NOT a good basketball player (yet).

Potential? Definitely. Small little flashes of being awesome? Yeah, kinda. But a good basketball player? Objectively speaking? Nah...

Well, it is what it is.....who's next
We know who is next for the most part as Cal recruited knowing we would lose EJ and Nick . That is why he signed forwards and is about to sign a center in Haarms . With Brooks coming back that is 5 bigs. We only had 4 last season. Now Fletcher will play a smidge of SF ( though with his shot blocking he needs to be at the 4 alot ) so we might add 1 more big in grad transfer market.

Some are looking at it as he wasn’t good so this opens it up for some of the younger guys.

I was hoping he came back and made a big step next year . Oh well

It’s a nice thought. There’s no guarantee though. And if EJ thinks his game is good enough for the NBA now, I worry he doesn’t see his weaknesses—everything. Which makes him less likely to improve

I think this might be true but Brown , Banchero , Kuminga are not in the picture for next season. We will add Haarms and then maybe a role player who won't play much. As Brooks and Ware or Fletcher will get the PF minutes and Haarms and Jackson will get the center minutes. It is very hard to find time for more then 4 bigs.

2 seniors. A transfer from Creighton and a transfer from Purdue. Neither elite.
Do you want experience or do you want Elite? Never going to have both. We have Elite talent surrounding good experienced guys “if” Haarms comes. We will be fine as I said. Best team since 2015 IMO, especially if we add another reclass which I believe we will.

Gives Ware, Brooks and Jackson more minutes and more time to grow before March. It’s a positive.

No, it's not.

Not unless his absence lands you someone like Kuminga.

All the positive spin is almost as bad as the premature departures. There's no reason to believe any of those guys is anymore ready for a "breakout year" than EJ was when he returned last year.

UK needs to replace EJ with a stud like Kuminga. It's the only way anyone can actually lay claim to this being a net positive at this point.

Him and his family seem to be delusional . If the story on this board is true about how his parents was acting at the game it’s safe to say he would have never came here if they could do it all over again .

Let’s go get two more Grad transfers and roll
Put the College baseball rule in now for College hoops
Go pro out of High School but if you choose College stay 3 or turn 21 before eligible for draft
Only way to save the game
Paying players will never work because other sports will demand fair share

Is it out of the question to play small ball with two guys 6'-9". Might help our defense with the speed and athleticism we could put on the floor. If any of the incoming guys turn out to a beast on the boards, I don't see why not. Golden State won NBA championships with 6'-8" Draymond Green playing the 5 in crunch time. Obviously we won't have Steph, Clay and KD but we won't be playing against LeBron, either. Not that many teams anymore have a true 5. Maybe we shouldn't either.

And, as to EJ - meh. A very mediocre player with a lack of effort while playing for UK. Theoretically, he could've helped us next year. In reality, I highly doubt it. I expected to be disappointed, again, by his play.

I had to google to see if he’d already committed. People here already have him on our roster.
People shouldn't count their chickens before they hatch but usually when Graf and others say it is very likely it is very likely . This reminds me of the Travis recruitment . We basically knew we were getting Reid for a month but had to wait . Cal has known he was losing 5 guys for months now . He isn't caught unaware and has plans within plans.

I’d like to have some experience that actually has experience here, actually.

Best team since 2015? Iyiyiyi. No way this team is better than 2017 or 2019, imo.

LOL if you think next year’s team will be better than 16-17 you may be in for a surprise.

It sounds like these letters are all written by the same guy, but he mixes the information around to make them seem different. :)

Did people not already know EJ was gone? Did you really expect him back? He’s know. He was going for a month now. Not sure why people are overreacting to something that was a foregone conclusion long ago.

I fully believe KB is/will be better than EJ.

I love EJ, but this is the strangest decision in the Cal era. EJ's dad will force this kid to play in Greece. If he can make one of those teams.
The strangest ever

1. Whitney quitting midseason
2. EJ Montgomery leaving
3. Wenyen Gabriel leaving
4. Briscoe leaving

I mean we will be playing small ball in terms of weight but not height . our starting line up will be

6'3 6'7 6'8 6'8 7'3 . LOL that ain't small ball . And that 6'8 is Brooks ( but Ware is 6'9 and Fletcher 6'8 so the same applies )

Well he didn’t announce it until today so of course folks are going to react with a strong opinion when he officially announces a decision that doesn’t make sense .
