I’ve just mellowed with age, man. Try not to get too agitated about things over which I have no control. Doesn’t hit everybody the same way. We have a few cranky old-timers around here.
When KyFaninNC and I both agree with you maybe it is time for you to worry just a littleI feel ya to an extent. And in some cases sure, go check it out. It’s an experience, right?
I was mainly suggesting that guys like Hagans are better off by concentrating on the goal and just working the gym. Add those hours up. It’s not that important to hear what a scout or GM has to say over a professional who’s paid hundreds of millions to do that very thing. I’d trust cal before some no name numbers guy GM or a scout paid 90K to evaluate.
In a way, I’m looking for guys like EJ and Hagans to say “I don’t need feedback I know what my problems are because I know what I do. I’m going to focus on winning a national title at UK, and I believe with that kind of effort I’ll be in a better place”......sort of thing.
I absolutely love that Hagans didn’t even need to hear from them. I think it points to mindset. That’s really my only point.
HEY! I resemble that remark! [eyeroll]We have a few cranky old-timers around here.
I mean I can't find a list with EJ in the top 100 prospects for this year's draft. Would he even be invited to the combine? If not what is he going to hear that Cal can't tell him as far as working on? I mean Ashton knew he wasn't a first or second round pick and just was like I'm not where I want to be no need to F around, time to get back to work. EJ should be on the same page even more so not sure why.

Stop it aike. Your argument holds zero water. There’s more to college basketball than elite 8s. Tubby was a shot away here and there too but run off. He never missed the tournament either. The trade is TITLES for OAD not elite 8s and “a shot away”. As a life long fan of uk basketball whether it’s a 1st weekend out or elite 8!it doesn’t matter. No matter the coach we are going to be a sweet sixteen team as long as he’s not an alcoholic. When you make your “one shot away” argument you fail to mention we underachieved and lost to a team we beat by 30 not to mention missing their best player. Yeah I’m gonna unload bc what’s happening is ridiculous and to celebrate last season as a success after we were ranked 1 preseason, and lost to a team we killed missing their best player it’s ludicrous. We are going on the wrong direction. You’re a numbers guy look at the trend line. Forget scores just look at the ultimate results and you will see its going the wrong direction.
I think he tried, just struggled mentally.
Vanderbilt refused to play when healthy. He gets my least favorite award.
Don't let Doc fool you, he is smarter than the average cat.I’m slower than the average smart dude. When you’re agreeing with me, just remember that.
Like I posted the other day, I’ve been watching Kentucky basketball for 38 years.
We’ve made it to the Elite Eight exactly half of those years. 19.
We’ve gone 9-10 in those 19 games.
So this was a normal year to me. Pretty good. Kind of disappointing at the end.
Because you feel differently doesn’t make it so. Only means your expectations are out of whack with the realities of UK basketball.

That statement didn't sound like a kid thinking he will be back.
I'll be surprised if EJ returns, but if he does I would expect him to be a significant contributor next year.
Aike did you grow up in Lexington? UK basketball is what makes that city go. It’s the life blood. To see it reduced to what it’s become is sad. I grew up in the 80s. We weren’t winning titles. It didn’t matter bc our players were part of the community. They stick around and we got to know them. Now token fringe players are there one year and gone. Some that stick around leave to go no where like wenyen. Its whatever at this point and that’s sad bc even when we were on probation and going through hell fans still cared. I think the time of fans caring is soon to be up.
Maybe you’re right that would just mean we aren’t recruiting the right types of players. Guys who barely contribute here but get big money and they’re gone.
We are recruiting fringe nba players now who are playing to go to the league. We don’t have a program dedicated and the players aren’t focused on cbb. Most of them have one foot out when they sign.

Very true. He’s got a lot of ability and potential, but he didn’t even hold his own in college this past season. What makes him think he’s ready to compete against the best players in the world! In E.J.'s case, why does he even need to "test the waters" or be "evaluated"? Here is an evaluation: He needs to get significantly better at EVERYTHING before he even starts to think about anything NBA related.
Has nothing to do with Hurt. The only Hurt involved is the possibility of EJ going pro. Hurt is Duke bound.Cal being Cal, having EJ announce right before Hurt announcement ...
EJ has shown that he can't be the main guy, can't catch a pass, cant hit a 3 pt with consistency.
He can return and become a player,...
So you think cal should recruit 2*/3* players who may or may not develop into championship caliber players after two or three years, versus getting the best players available and becoming immediate threats to win it all every year?
To each his own. i can’t think of another coach i’d rather have at UK.
Seems like Cal is doing ok:2-3*??? This is the problem with the all in cal supporters/cult. You guys don’t realize there is somewhere in between. Tubby didn’t bring in 2* players and as I’ve said it doesn’t matter who the coach is at UK the stage alone will bring in talent. Cal just brings in whoever he can. He hasn’t built a program. He’s built a year to year process of teams. Building a program means bringing in certain players the right players. Not scrambling every spring for the best of whats left. It’s called building chemistry and developing players. Cal no longer controls OAD at UK it controls him
Oh,I think we run about the same speed if you factor in the age difference.:sunglasses:I’m slower than the average smart dude. When you’re agreeing with me, just remember that.
Yes was just posted on twitter by KSR... what a joke this has become

Oh sure. Billy G took us to the promised land. How stupid can you be. We are the top program since Cal has been here. Sorry to burst your bubble.Top 10 recruits 1st
Lottery picks 19
NBA player 30+
Yet we aren’t #1 in that span in titles. That’s underachieving my friend. 19 lottery picks in 10 years and 1 title. My god stop showing this graphic. We were the winningest program before cal.
Maybe it’s just me, but i really don’t want a UK coach who doesn’t try to bring in the best players he can.
I grade cal on the results of his time he’s been here, and it’s pretty damned impressive.
I look forward to next year, once again.

How do we know EJ will not be back?It is just you bc championship coaches bring in the right talent not what they can. Look at what’s going on. Pj goes, Kheldon and herro want to be pj so they go even though they aren’t pj. Now ej wants to be pj and he isn’t even in the same stratosphere as freshman pj. Remember cals comment about what staying did for pj and how he was going to pitch that? Well it didn’t work bc he’s going to have the most patchwork of teams in our history. It’s a terrible position to be in and I don’t see how anyone can spin it as anything other than.
Cal isn’t given the most lucrative contract in cbb and uk history to do what other coaches can. My expectations are based on what cal set as the bar. Hes failed to meet it
Dude, Dean Smith was at North Carolina 36 years and only won 2 titles. He had the best players in a time when it was much easier to win a title. Only the conference winners went to the NCAA tournament. So there were several of the best teams had to stay home. Duke had the most talented team maybe in college basketball history this year but did not win the title. Get a life. Why don't you worry about something you can control? No we re not. We are the winningest but not the top. Titles dude. And billy g was an alcoholic and didn’t belong here.

It is probably because recruits read this board and decide they don't want to play at a school that has negative fans like you.Look at the construction of the 2008 Memphis team that went 38-2 and then tell me why we can’t replicate that model? Is it just because our brand is now one and done and we can only attract that mentality?
No we re not. We are the winningest but not the top. Titles dude. And billy g was an alcoholic and didn’t belong here.
I’m super excited because I stopped caring about Final Fours and Championships. I just care about NBA Draft picks and other guys just hanging out for a little bit here and then bouncing. That way I can trash talk other programs that we beat them in NBA players.
It’s about the players and them getting some cash on their way before they bounce around the G-League and 10-day NBA contracts. It’s selfish of you all to care about Kentucky success instead of these guys you got to see for six months before they joined the Idaho River Rats.
Vanderbilt if healthyMy point, he was drafted anyway. If you had a choice of Vanderbilt, Diallo or EJ, who would you take?
Cal can’t force anyone to stay, nor should he if a kid has a chance to knock down some life changing cash.
Names on the back of the jerseys will change next year but the constant is the fact that UK will once again be in the hunt for a national championship.
Again, we lost eight players from last year’s roster and this year cal still took our team to overtime in the regional championship.
Disagree at times, but I agree with this.I don’t think Cal has met the expectations he set for himself, but I don’t think he’s missed by much. I think he’s earned his contract.
If titles are the only thing that matters, it's not a very realistic position.
I mean did anyone watch the recent tournament? Did anyone see the games involving the eventual champion UVA?
Gone are the days that one team is going to be that much better than the rest. Coming down to elite 8 games onward, you could have flipped a coin in most cases.
All I can ask of this team is that we are in the conversation most years..........Cal has done that. We were good enough this year and we were good enough in 2017 as well.
If u keep putting yourself in these positions, at some point it will result in a title.
