Our backups get snaps every week in practice. It's so dumb Urban Meyer that year where he won the natty with his 3rd string QB. He said he gave snaps to his backup every week in practice.

Lateef doesn't get reps in practice? He didn’t get reps all week like he we have. He got thrown to the lions against a top 25 team .this isn’t HS you can’t just start running plays and drawing up plays on the sideline that you never practiced all week. He was still runninga game plan designed for Dylan. They are different types of QB . We will see different wrinkles in the game plan the rest of the year to better suit TJs strengths.
TJ is not quick and not impressed with his foot speed either. Are you serious? Dude has some wheels. Not 4.3 wheels but he would beat Dylan by 10 yards in a 40 yard dash….well maybe 5-6 but still way more mobile. The concern would be him taking hits cuz he’s pretty skinny.
More than likely, go through the motions type reps. Our backups get snaps every week in practice.
Mobile QB like a Jayden Daniels kind of mobile?I feel badly for Dylan. But I’m excited about the opportunity for Lateef. I’m very much a Dylan fan, and I feel terrible for him and the team.
That said, I am a mobile QB fan-a-holic. I miss the mobile QB. And, if Lateef has a good last 3 games, let the QB controversy begin.
Not necessarily lobbying for it, rather hypothesizing if Granddad's game experience might be what we need to lean on for the rest of the season. TJ absolutely should be getting first team reps and inserted into games as often as appropriate but he was playing high school ball this time last year. If this happened at the beginning of the season with the pud part of the schedule still in front of the team, that would be a different convo where TJ could use those games to tune up. But at this point of the season with who we have left, a steadier hand on the tiller should at least be considered. In all likelihood we're going to go with TJ so this is prolly a moot point. So now we’re lobbying for the backup to the backup?![]()
I can agree with this. I guess we/I just have the "running" QB label a little different than some. I think TJ is a QB who "can" run and make a few off script plays . But I wouldn't label him a "running" QB. Maybe it's semantics but when I think of that I think of a guy who can beat you with his legs. I don't think he's beating UcLa, Iowa or PSU with his legs. Though combined with accuracy and more ways to win it might be enough.Oddly, I think TJ's game is more conducive to Holgerson as a play caller. He isn't a running QB per se but is more mobile than DR and looks confident rolling out. There is some improv to his game.
The problem is whatever they incorporate this week, makes it easier for PSU to prepare for next week.I can agree with this. I guess we/I just have the "running" QB label a little different than some. What works this week also needs to work next week, or at least plays that appear the same.
As silly as it sounds, the onus is really on the defense Saturday. If there ever was a game this year when the defense needs to play lights out its now. If the defense can keep us in the game while they work out the bugs with TJ, it gives us a much better shot the longer the game goes.
NU needs to get Jacori in the plan again. Last 6 games on 6 punt returns for 33 yards, and 10 receptions for 36 yards. We need more than 3.6 yards a reception. We need something big out of him and Williams in the specialty team department.
He will be dangerous enough defenses will have to account for him or he will make them pay. This will open more lanes for EJ. I think he will be able to connect long too. If not, there's not a difference than the past 22 games. I gave Raiola a year before I started complaining about his deficiency in that area.I can agree with this. You would think with a 5 star top rated qb you would be able to hit Barney up the seam on some play action.....The problem is whatever they incorporate this week, makes it easier for PSU to prepare for next week.

We need to run counters, reverses, flea flickers all the sh*t that can eventually give the QB time to throw something more than 15 yards to a receiver. You would think with a 5 star top rated qb you would be able to hit Barney up the seam on some play action.....
I hope you are right about defenses having to account for him. I agree that'll open it up more for EJ. I also think if what I seen from him is true he will throw a better deep ball than Dylan (Dylans biggest weakness imo).He will be dangerous enough defenses will have to account for him or he will make them pay. I bet UCLA will welcome TJ with the ball in his hands due to possible ball security issues.I'm absolutely serious. It goes without saying he's NOT a 4.3 burner. I think that's pretty obvious.
Hate to tell you but being 5-6 steps faster than Dylan isn't that big a deal. I'd bet you everyone on our starting defense would outrun Dylan. That's not some great feat.
Listen I think TJ IS mobile. Much more mobile than Dylan is. So yes I expect he will make some plays with his feet and get outta trouble a bit. But when you guys speak of him like he's some "running " QB who is gonna turn the corner and pop off 40 yards are mistaken. He isn't an Adrian Martinez as a runner. I think he's more quick and slippery/shifty than fast. Will his legs help him get outta trouble and make a couple/3 plays? Yes they will but I'll be shocked if his athleticism alone is enough to beat UclA, PSU or Iowa.
He's gonna have to make those 2/3 big throws in these games that'll decide whether we win or lose. I'm much more interested in seeing if he can do that. FWIW I'm extremely excited to see how he does. UCLA has some athletes and speed on defense. Let's see how it goes.

EJ tripped himself.Lateef fumbled 3 times and threw for 7 yards playing almost 2 full quarters. He also tripped EJ on the last play. We're cooked, if we finish 1-3 that'll be a great result.
So what? He was/is a young qb on a mediocre team with a **** oline. Do you remember Josh Allen coming into Lincoln and playing terrible? It happens. You play talent and let them develop. There were times he did stink up the place.
We won games with Haarberg and Lateef looks like he has twice the acceleration of Haarberg and has to be at least twice as accurate.I'm absolutely serious. It goes without saying he's NOT a 4.3 burner. I think that's pretty obvious.

And I would imagine they could get creative with formations including TJ, EJ and Haarberg. Who gets the ball snapped them? Who gets to handoff? Is it a pass or a run?We won games with Haarberg and Lateef looks like he has twice the acceleration of Haarberg and has to be at least twice as accurate.
Leave Haarberg at TE. No DC cares about him at qb. We have already wasted so many plays have him at qb this year. Maybe 1 was actually successful? And I would imagine they could get creative with formations including TJ, EJ and Haarberg. Who gets the ball snapped them? Who gets to handoff? Is it a pass or a run?
Dylan and Josh Allen in the same breath. Yeah....So what? He was/is a young qb on a mediocre team with a **** oline. Do you remember Josh Allen coming into Lincoln and playing terrible? It happens. You play talent and let them develop.
Yes there are reasons he was moved from QB people need to think those reasons have not gone away somehow. He’s also been unremarkable at TE as well unfortunately, I was hopeful he would have been more productive there.Leave Haarberg at TE. No DC cares about him at qb. He’s been good as a TE but there’s only one ball and we have multiple options.Yes there are reasons he was moved from QB people need to think those reasons have not gone away somehow. He’s also been unremarkable at TE as well unfortunately, I was hopeful he would have been more productive there.
TJ stepped into him and his foot made contact with EJ's foot and forced him to fall. Lateef also had 9 carries, fumbled 3 times, and threw it 7 times for 7 yards. Maybe he can do better with some prep but he is a major downgrade from DR.EJ tripped himself.
History supports what you say but I think HH could do well with packages that look run heavy but incorporate quick slants. I saw HH has accuracy problems but get him in a formation that screams run and then use a safe pass. HH isn't an every down QB, but he knows the Satt version of the playbook which DH is still using parts of. Having said all that HH at QB is not a solution for the rest of the season; I'm just saying he should have some packages inserted for him.Leave Haarberg at TE. No DC cares about him at qb. A play action pass when he has routinely snuck the call on short yardage could be a killer play. I’ve been waiting for them to run something like that.History supports what you say but I think HH could do well with packages that look run heavy but incorporate quick slants. If the kid craps the bed, then you hope he grows quickly from it. We can limp along with Haarberg if we have to, but I suspect TJ's getting a crash course of late season B1G play.. which will be great experience. Treat it like a new mini season. 0-0 and you got 4 games to play.Lateef fumbled 3 times and threw for 7 yards playing almost 2 full quarters. He also tripped EJ on the last play. We're cooked, if we finish 1-3 that'll be a great result.
Lot's of good, talented qbs stink up the place. Especially when they are young. My point is look at Josh Allen in college. 56% completion %. 20 ints in 2 years. But no one cared, because he is talented. Dylan isn't perfect but people sure forget how 2 years ago our qbs couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.Dylan and Josh Allen in the same breath. Yeah....
Tough for a freshman to be thrown into that situation. Would have been doom and gloom last year but I'm actually kind of excited to see what Lateef can do.If the kid craps the bed, then you hope he grows quickly from it. Casey Thompson threw more long touchdown passes in one game against Purdue or Iowa than DR has thrown in his 22 game career. That's on the OC. Seems like Holgorsen only believes in 50/50 balls or short passes like bubble screens. I bet Whipple would have had Dylan throwing bombs to Hunter and Barney. Didn't hurt having Palmer and his blazing speed.Casey Thompson threw more long touchdown passes in one game against Iowa than DR has thrown in his 22 game career.
Other than one ball to Coleman, DR hasn't hit a long ball in stride to a WR. He throws a lousy long ball. That's on the OC. DR's had 15 INT's in less than 2 years and his percentage is high due to the dink offense we run.
Step faster and multiple times better as an actual football player. Tre caught 39 passes in 1 season in the NFL. I doubt the other 2 have that many catches combined in their college careers. Hell, the 2 of them might not have that many catches combined in college and high school.Other than one ball to Coleman, DR hasn't hit a long ball in stride to a WR. He throws a lousy long ball.
Trey was a step only faster than both Coleman and Lloyd.
That isn't the point. The point is DR can't throw the long ball and it wouldn't make any difference if we had Trey Palmer or Usain Bolt who is multiple steps faster than Trey.Step faster and multiple times better as an actual football player. Most polite "argument" ever where someone got put on ignore. HahaThat isn't the point. The point is DR can't throw the long ball and it wouldn't make any difference if we had Trey Palmer or Usain Bolt who is multiple steps faster than Trey.
You just want to argue about your unwinnable argument. I'm putting you on Ignore. Go away!!
I’m pretty confident that Dylan has an arm or hand problem that might need some surgical intervention. They admitted to a throwing hand issue early in the year. That isn't the point.
