I kept thinking there's something we're not identifying that will be the thing that busts the doors wide open. I think it's NFT's. Jalen Duren has a monster dunk or gamewinner? Turn it into an NFT and sell it for tens of thousands. Fans will pay for all kinds of silly clips. Boosters can pay up big $$ for these. Seems like a homerun.
Think of the Patrick Sparks shot vs MSU. Or (I hate to say this) the Laettner shot. NFT GOLD

Listening to his podcast now. He said "he's hearing that Miami might be in the lead". Not a lot to hang your hat on either way.

Do you remember in the 1950's the "Gillette Cavalcade of Sports"? On Friday each week, they carried Boxing from Madison Square Garden.

Seemed like Carmen Basillio would fight every week!

My understanding is there is no one there to play in his position. He can play all the minutes he wants there. Hopefully we will get him but i think it will be between Miami and UK.
Surely to god a kid that is that good isn't worried about minutes. I get that's not you saying it--just passing along the info. But if he picks Miami because of no competition--it would be like Durant going to Cleveland so he could start.

Da blue and others have pointed out that thinking about this only in terms of endorsements from companies might be missing the biggest streams of revenue.

Lively made a statement about NFTs (which absolutely make no sense to me but people can make tons of money with them) and social media. That is the real way NIL is going to put huge amounts of money in players’ pockets, potentially.

When Cal talks about being out front of something, I really hope they have a team of people mapping this out and thinking ahead. Twitch streaming players playing video games, player YouTube channels, etc. This could open up a whole new level ecosystem for athletes online. It’s going to be interesting.
Just to give you an example my son makes over 500 dollars a month doing things like reacting to horror movie trailers, masks, posting videos of our Haunted Attraction. If you consider that his subscribers and viewers are mostly localized and a fraction of what a nationally ranked HS athlete's are. It is really scary how much money can be made via social media. My son only utilizes YouTube does nothing to promote himself our primary income is our Haunted House but that is only 6 weekends a year. So he just goofs around YouTube for fun and was kinda shocked when he started getting checks from YouTube. Lol!

Would the player be able to release an NFT like that? Wouldn’t CBS or ESPN own the rights to most of that type of footage?

Or would CBS sell an NFT like this, but have to give the player a cut due to NIL rules?

Will be interesting.

Surely you can't release it without the player ok'ing it/getting some cut of the action.

I think the player getting a cut would be the answer. Kinda like sampling in music.
