You guys are really misunderstanding the Dook situation. Thornton's dad wanted Derryck to be the starter next year so he saw the writing on the wall when Dook bought Jackson in and it was becoming likely that Grayson would return. Derryck's dad basically forced him to transfer because he wanted his son to play more than 10-15 minutes on a team.
At any rate, Grayson will be Dook's PG next year. One of my friends who's subscribed to one of their premium boards told me that this is how their starting lineup will most likely shake up next year:
G: Grayson Allen
G: Matt Jones
F: Jayson Tatum
F: Amile Jefferson
F: Harry Giles
Bench Unit
G: Frank Jackson
G: Luke Kennard
F: Chase Jeter
F: Javin DeLaurier
C: Marques Bolden
My friend told me that K convinced Allen to come back his junior year to give him the reigns to the PG position so he can be a lottery pick next year as a true point guard.
He better get faster & improve handle because he looked like crap against UK when he tried to play some point. PG will be the achillies heel of this talented Duke roster.
Yeah... kid got 26 minutes a game, was handed the reins, never really performed.
Now worried about other guys being better than him. So he left.
#noteveryoneiscutoutforthebigtimepressureofplaceslikeDukeorKentucky,andyouallknowit
I tend to side with this theory.Or.....kid got 26 minutes, wasn't good enough to keep them from getting Bolden (or keep UK from getting him), so he was cut.
Six of one......

or the warrior and gatherer.Wtf with the Duke trolls in this thread? Like little girls squabbling. You guys should take lessons from MarkG and Neu.
No he was kicked off for something that happened after that loss to Notre Dame he barely played in.

Not really since you guys don't have a 5. Frank Jackson can be a servicable 1.And I would counter that by saying that DT was more important to next years team than Bolden.
That was fun to see but that game was back in November, its time to let it go.
That's what I'm thinking too. I'm not a K fan but I don't think he'd do that to one of his players.
I'm not trying to be combative here but something doesn't make sense. Clearly Duke does need a PG a lot more than they need Bolden and yet Thorton is leaving because of playing time? If he's the only PG on the roster and as you state Duke clearly needs that and a perimeter defender then you would think his playing time would be limitless. And yet you also state that his dad didn't like the prospects of his playing time. Some things just don't add up here.K didn't force Derryck out, Derryck's dad didn't like the PT last year and potentially next year.
I do agree, though, that while Duke is stacked, there isn't a PG on the roster, and they are losing their best perimeter defender, and it isn't close.

Who is on his short list of potential schools?
also, will he have to sit out a year?
Hopefully he gets better recruiting info than his info in this one. This couldn't be further from the truth, in fact coach K tried to talk him into staying.
What's funny is no recruits will actually look at this and think twice about Duke. It's like high school kids don't even watch college b-ball. Like...I can't understand how any elite big would sign with Kansas after the Cliff Alexander/Cheick Diallo disasters. I mean....the closest Cal has had to a complete bust would probably be Alex Poythress, but that was more due to lack of fire in Alex than anything Cal did or did not do for him.Cal got Murray to reclass and helped him become a high lottery pick in one season. K got Thornton to reclass and now he won't even be playing in college next year. Who's better at maxing value for the one and dones? It's not even close.
I think his dad likes Ky. I know it's not much but hes retweeted things about Ky.Who is on his short list of potential schools?

Duke will be talented next year, but they will not have a pure point guard running the show. Bolden will be a good get for them, but he's not an impact player. He better learn how to bang and rebound, because that's the only way he will get to touch the ball.
Thornton is sitting out next year. He might get drafted sometime but it won't be this year. You must have used some really selective players to come up with that nonsense. Cal's much better with OADs than anybody and it's not even close.Thornton is going to the draft? And I did that math in a previous post, Coach K's one and dones are drafted higher on average.
Hopefully he gets better recruiting info than his info in this one. This couldn't be further from the truth, in fact coach K tried to talk him into staying.
Since that's never happened we don't have to contemplate it but you can dream.Wow, you guys are angry.
I'm sure if a freshman got a TON of playing time for Cal, played really badly, decided to transfer, and then his uncle started raving on twitter about Cal, you'd be PISSED at Cal. Like... super pissed.
[pfftt]
Every school doesn't work out for every kid. How'd that "Ryan Harrow" kid work out for Cal?
Why would we force out our point guard that played 26 mins. We didn't have to offer jack white a scholarship to make room for Bolden. smhSince that's never happened we don't have to contemplate it but you can dream.
If it looks like a rat and smells like a rat?
Dude they didn't force DT to get Bolden, just stop with that. You mean they'd take an Aussie 3 star player in White over DT? You also forget that Obi most likely will be gone after seeking medical hardship. The Bolden "force-out" conspiracy holds no water.

Of course he will, why wouldn't he? And for the Duke poster who earlier asked about Harrow, he transfers to Georgia State, a few miles from his home because his father had suffered a bad stroke. Nice try though.
