Cal suffers for being an innovator.
Cal embraces OAD and its evil and ruining the college game. He takes the heat and then other guys (especially K) finally realize you have to get the talent even if it is only for a little while and it becomes acceptable.
Cal gets top 5 players and fails to win the title every year, so his coaching skills are questioned. Then other guys start getting top 5 talent (namely K) and fails to win the title, and people start to realize it must not be the coaching, it's having young players with no veteran leadership that is the problem.
I guess Cal needs to wait until someone else does it, let them be criticized, and then try it after they have dealt with all the criticism.
In other words, be an imitator, not an innovator.
