My first time watching becuase it’s never on tv here, but what I see is 2 very vanilla boring bad teams lol ....it hurts me to say that, and maybe I’m just used to watching the big games and yea ....but man just vanilla looking football.
I'm sorry THIS was your first game on TV. You deserve better.

I say the problem is the basketball team....nobody’s in the stands man ! Got dammit ! If I lived near there I’d be at every game . No home field advantage from what I can see . :(

Basketball?.. they were calling for rain thru the middle part of the day. I agree the stands were empty, we didn’t go because of the forecast, but we lost because we shot ourself in the foot time and time again. I knew we weren’t as good as our record but we got manhandled by an inferior opponent today.

Well just got home from the game. First half was awful, second half was better. It was a good game, but those three sacks to end it killed us. I don't see why we were so one dimensional, but whatever.

Division championship is officially lost, but there's still much left to play for. Let's go DUKE!

The crowd was actually really loud at times, I was surprised. The stadium is gorgeous, and my nephews enjoyed experiencing the campus.

Ugh, wish the boys had put on a better game for your boys. Hopefully this won't sour their fragile fandom.

I didn’t get to watch the game. I followed some of the plays on gamecast. What’s wrong with Duke’s offense? Offensive line? QB? Offensive Coordinator? I miss the days of Spurrier’s offense.

On to the next game. the unc loss helps the hurt. I wonder who's paying the refs for unc to lose. It's not coming from us . The horrible officiating was obvious today. Why doesn't fedora ask for an investigation? He knows something is going on. Where's swofford when his alma mater needs him. OFC

I believe it’s called karma Sky. Pay back for all their cheating and all the times they have got the call calls over the years. As someone put it, less than eloquently, payback is a *****.

The only way Duke will put fans in the seats is good weather, big name opponent, and dynamic offense. The Ol Ball Coach had the solution.

Nah man they're well schooled on Duke football now. I told them about Coach Wade and how he started southern football tradition, Coach Cameron, Coach Murray, and Coach Spurrier. They had no idea about Coach Wade and why the stadium bears his name so I had some explaining to do on history lol.

Dukes offense was terrible. Wrs dropped a ton of passes. Daniel Jones sucks at throwing the long ball, o line can’t protect, running plays go down the middle too much. Poor defense was on the field for almost 45 minutes today.

Also, no duke is not theoretically in the convo for a playoff birth. Even if we went undefeated the rest of the way I think we would be shut out by blue blood programs, maybe 2 from the SEC.

THAT is a reach

Still think my reasoning about a division title was flawed?

Bahaha. Still sore on that are we? If you read my above post, I said we are NOW officially eliminated from division title contention. Pay attention.

bad game all around by us. offense is really struggling. no one stepped up to make a needed play. long bomb lands in hands for a drop. 3rd down pass in a te hands dropped so we have to punt. 4 drops in first half. that said, daniel locks in on receivers and holds the ball way to long. 3/4 of the sacks we allow are on him. still has not developed that clock in his head. NO holes opened for the running game. worst special teams play i can remember. our punter sux. coverage really bad. defense played okay but was left on the field way to long and wore out which leads to poor or non tackles. the BIG issue for me though is the game by game and year by year inability of our coaching staff to make adjustments. i dont know if it is cut or who but never seem to adapt and change what we are doing. i am worried about winning another game this year. think the book is out there on how to beat us and i am scared that we cant adjust

He’s a legend in his own mind

No, but I was correct. Anyone that couldn't see we were out of the division race by halftime of the VT game doesn't understand FB. They know as much about American FB as the standard eastern European knows.

We are definitely not Coastal title material, and the Va Tech game proved it. The UVA game FURTHER CEMENTED that proof. I am tired of hearing injury complaints, because Cut said preseason this was the DEEPEST SQUAD he had at Duke.

I think Daniel Jones returned TOO SOON from his injury, and this is the reason we don't see him calling his number on RPO's nearly as much. So much of DJ's game and Duke's offense are predicated by his running. Our brilliant (ha,ha) OC Zac Roper now attempts to establish the run up the middle to RB's far too much when its not there. Defense is on field way too much, special teams have become a dumpster fire, and I could go on.

All that being said however, this team still has enough talent to beat Pitt, Wake and UNC and post an 8-4. I will be disappointed if Cut falls short of this record after opening 4-0. Btw, Roper needs to go back to coaching special teams, and move new O-Line coach Jim Bridge back to TE's coach!

Rant over,

Hart and Surf, you are right on it. From my view of the game, the main problem is coaching. It seemed to me that UVA knew what we were going to call in almost every situation, and their constantly changing defenses were never solved by us. On the other hand, our defense was consistently fooled by UVA's play-calling. If this situation continues, the only way we will be able to beat any of the remaining teams on our schedule would be to out-talent them, which seems unlikely. So, there needs to be some significant changes on both sides of the ball. Changing the OC would be a great start.

Personally I thought the defense played well for what they were faced with early on. Our special teams made it way too easy for Virginia's offense. Our offense was pedestrian and I thought maybe Quentin should have got an opportunity, especially on the option because that was where we hurt them the most. I guess they want to ride or die with Daniel, even if he's not 100 percent. To be fair, there were also a number of dropped balls that the receivers had no excuses for.

We played better in the second half but couldn't finish. Virginia did. On to next game.

In his post game comments, Cut was not happy with our defense. In fact, he pointed to our atrocious tackling as perhaps the worst part of our performance.

He shouldn't have been happy with all three phases of the game. He shouldn't be happy with himself for not getting them ready, he shouldn't be happy with his assistants for not doing their part. There's a lot of blame to throw around here.

That said, I was really impressed with Virginia's qb. He got out of a lot of bad situations. Some of that was because no holding was called all day, and their offensive line, particularly 71, got away with it with no consequences.

Now that I'm done armchair coaching on a message board I'm ready to go out and do the real thing, like I have for 12 years now lol.

And a lot of it was because arm-tackling just does not work. OFC.
