Run the football and good things happen. Our O line seems to be struggling in pass protection. How long is Brittain Brown out?
Hopefully, he'll be back this week. He did make the trip to Atlanta and did dress out. Cut said Brown could have played in an emergency.
Brown is from Georgia and it's a shame he couldn't play in front of family and friends. But Duke is going to need a healthy Brittain Brown down the stretch and I'm confident all concerned realize that.
I’m afraid of Virginia, they’ve beaten us the last two years when they had no business doing so. They just beat Miami so their confidence should be at an all time high. Can’t have a game from the offense like we did this past week. Everyone does their job and we SHOULD win.

VT losing in the embarrassing manner they did to ODU was disastrous for Duke. If they win that game, they are looking past Duke to ND, the big home game they had the week after Duke. Instead, after losing to ODU, they were focused vs Duke and we lost.

UVA's win over Miami was great for Duke. It will be hard to get back up, for a road game, after such aa big home win. Their fans rushed the field. I'm sure there was epic party scene that night. I'm not sure how ready they will be next Saturday at noon.
A huge, glaring, enormous, blaring klaxon of a red alert level problem is our edge blocking in the pass game. Team are able to get great pressure vs our tackles. This puts a lot of pressure on the QB to make very accurate passes, very quickly. We've got to find a way to alleviate this pressure and give DJ more time to throw. Going forward, I'm afraid more teams are going to have their ends simply bull rush the passer. They'll give up a few big run plays, but our RBs don't have great homerun speed, so it is unlikely that will produce numerous long TD runs. It is the sort of obvious flaw, with an easy way to attack/exploit said flaw readily available to every team. We need 1 more win for bowl eligibility, and I'd love to get it this week.
Agreed. Va Tech pressured Jones all game long just rushing three. Jackets did not have to blitz much, if at all.
Bump. Virignia is good, but so are we. Win and we're in prime position for the division title. Lose and we basically have a bowl game wrapped up, but I want more!

We can't win the division title. We lost the VT game. We cannot beat Clemson, so get that dream out of your mind. I'm not impressed by Miami on offense, but they will generate a fantastic blitz vs our pass. Further, I think their WRs will get enough separation to cause real problems. They won't be able to run very well, but they'll have some big hitters in the pass game.

Vs this year's schedule, if we only have 3 losses, I'll be ecstatic. We'll be second or third in our division, which, if we are honest with ourselves, is as good as we can expect. Third would be good. Second would be fantastic. We'd be in line for a respectable bowl game. One of the "better" ones, that gets played between Christmas and New Year's, with essentially no other FB on TV. Every college level HS player in America will be watching (nothing else to do). That is the sort of event that will get us 5-10 new recruits (over a few years). Kids who never really considered Duke will see us for what we actually are: A quality team with some holes, aka the opportunity for immediate PT.
You act like VT is automatic to win every game they have left. That is far from true. And yes, we probably won't beat Clemson. But it can happen, and I've seen it happen. We beat Clemson over a decade ago on the last play of the game, a 54 yard field goal.

I get what you are saying, but I can see VT losing 2 conference games. I will keep the faith until we are mathematically eliminated.
Exactly. No one knows what the future holds. In this division VT, Miami, and UNC all have better talent. As a matter of fact Pitt and UVA probably do too. But coaching is an equalizer, and I put Coach Cut far above anyone in this division.

VT owns the tie break vs Duke. So if we lose 2 games, they have to lose 3 games, unless there is a three way tie.

We will not beat Clemson at Clemson. So that is two guaranteed losses. To win the division, VT would then have to lose three games. Which 3?

Beyond that, which 2 games do folks see VT losing? They have, in order, @UNC, home vs GT, home vs BC, @ Pitt, home vs Miami, and home vs UVA. Not exactly murderer's row. Which two teams will beat VT? At Miami would have a chance, but the game is in Blacksburg. @Pitt is tough, possibly. The rest? Nope. VT is too well coached, and too good on D. A top tier defense could maybe keep the game close enough to eke out a win vs VT and their iffy offense. I don't see any top tier defenses left on their schedule.

We could, as I said, easily finish top 2 or 3 in our division. That means we are better than most of the division. Since VT handled us easily, why do folks think they'll have trouble with the rest of the division? The ACC is pretty down this year, and we are in the weaker half of the conf. VT is beatable. Just not by many, if any, of the teams in the ACC.
And that's fine. I'm just saying any given Saturday... I don't think we will win the division. Just saying it's theoretically possible, if not realistically at this point.
Further, do you think that the Jedi would be ambivalent about the Sith. Yoda and Windu talked about hunting down the Sith Master. I don't think they wanted to have a philosophical decision on the nature of the Force. I think they planned to kill the Sith. Ergo, they were dealing in absolutes.
It is theoretically possible for Duke to win the national title this year. Since the game hasn't happened yet, it is possible that we win at Clemson, win the Division, beat Clemson in the rematch in the title game, then win vs Bama or OSU in the first round of the playoffs, and thin win the title vs Bama or OSU the following week.

That scenario is as possible as us winning the Division.

Thinking we have a chance to win the division only leads to disappointment, rather than the correct feelings of pride, happiness, and accomplishment when we finish in the top 2-3 of the division and go on to a good bowl game, hopefully vs a team with NFL hopefuls that are sitting out the bowl game.

As you wish sir. I'll just keep cheering and enjoy the season as I always do, since duke football is actually relevant. There was a time when we were the absolute worst power conference team in America. I'll take it, while also hoping for a higher ceiling.

Also, no duke is not theoretically in the convo for a playoff birth. Even if we went undefeated the rest of the way I think we would be shut out by blue blood programs, maybe 2 from the SEC.

I wish I could explain what happened against the Hokies - it was ugly. Duke didn't show in any aspect of the game.
I think Duke puts Virginia away early and wins by at least three scores.
The key is the defense getting off the field on third down. Against Va Tech the defense couldn't get a stop on third down. The rest of the season Duke has owned third down. I don't see Virginia's offense as a big enough threat to routinely make the third down plays.
