He can be quite annoying but like Bergman he came around at an important time. They both helped grow the ESPN brand and Vitale especially college basketball
Sucking the blue bloods dicks for three decades isn't excellence.
The early 80’s and 90’s he helped grow ESPN and college basketball. If you weren’t alive I get it but if you don’t get his importance in the growth of college basketball. His act has got old and it did back then but he broadcast and played to the blue bloods to get people to watch the teams that were excellent back then. In turn other teams started recruiting better to be part of a tremendous growing sport.
He helped grow college basketball just as Berman, Ley and Patrick grew sportcenter, baseball tonight and the entire ESPN brand.
I respect your thoughts on him but something tells me without guys like these we would still be on tv once a month
Hell back in the day he was as big as Gameday is for college football the last several years. Eventually the act of these color commentators gets old and it’s time to retire.
Berman was phenomenal in the 80’s. Nicknames and highlights were the best but acts got old but I feel so sorry for the youngster of today not getting to rush home and watch Sportcenter highlights every night.
A lot of things are so much better today but the 80’s ESPN era was electric.
I'd rather watch Booger McFarland draw dick pics. And that's saying something.
DV was good tonight and complimentary of our players, program, and coach. Certainly he can get on one’s nerves at times. His remark that we should not have fired Moorhead was “tongue in cheek” imo. I have always liked him because of his life away from the court. He does a lot of positive things and has a great approach to life.
Gave an upvote but yet we have our irritating football, baseball, basketball equivalents. As much as some hate him just remember these games may never have been on. ESPN made sports. They did it right! We are at a point of overkill but if you don’t like the commentary you can use the radio broadcast with the tv.
I totally agree but tell me the great color guys of today.Yes, his brand helped build college basketball 30+ years ago.
That doesnt mean he has a lifetime pass to annoy the **** out of almost all fanbases. It doesnt mean he has a lifetime pass to ramble on over and over about coaches or teams in other conferences that have 0 to do with the game in progress.
I totally agree but tell me the great color guys of today.
I always enjoy your takes but what I get from it is you don’t like the old school excitement. Bilas is a homer from hell, and Rafferty is where he is just like Vitale. Shulmann is awesome.- Fran fraschilla is elite and the big12 is lucky to have him so often.
- Jay Bilas has an excellent mix of knowledge, humor, and delivery. He is wicked smart and gets too 'letter of the law's at times since he is a lawyer, but at the same time he is technically right when he does that.
- Bill Raftery is ONIONS!
- Dan Shulman is a play by play guy, but deserves a mention since he comments too.
Robie Hummel does a good job of analyzing in real time and breaking scenarios down.
- Brooke Weisbrod was a super accomplished athlete, knows her stuff, and never dominated broadcasts.
- Andy Kennedy is good.
- Dan dakich is a douche and trolls hard which is lame, but he is strong in understanding the game and does well with simplifying what is happening on the court. I mention him because even he is better than Vitale.
There are more I like, but I'm not typing more.
Then there are so many more who are perfectly fine and not named because they allow the game to be the focus of the broadcast.
Vitale refuses to let the game be the focus. He is constantly pitching his own cancer agenda(even if it's a good one), continually talks about teams that arent playing and arent even on the schedule of either team playing, and gushes over coaches to an absurd amount.
The only person I want to hear less than Vitale is that ego-bag Walton.
