They're going to win out in the ACC and they're sitting at 25-4. They'll be 27-4 heading into the ACC tourney, and if they win the ACC tournament, do you really see the committee turning away a 30-4 Duke team in Coach K's last season when everyone else is losing?

Those two wins they have against Gonzaga and Kentucky also don't hurt.

I think they'll get a 1 seed, and I think the committee will make Kentucky their 2 seed.
K's last year and puke will get the royal treatment guaranteed! Ncaa and TV want a Cinderella story.

Mark it down and we are in Phili region as their 2.

Duke is most likely 7 overall now. Basically it would take Kansas, Auburn and UK to lose for Duke to get a 1, plus of course Duke has to win out. That Auburn loss opened the door for UK to jump them, just have to win out to get the Midwest 2. As of today Duke would be the 2 in the South.

For anyone who thinks Duke has no shot at a 1 — you are putting a lot of faith in a political/corrupt institution known as the NCAA to do the right thing. Think of them the same way you think of the US Government in 2022. How often does it do the right thing? They will do what benefits the bottom line. The farther Duke advances in March, the more casual fans who watch Coach K’s Swan Song…and the more $$$ they will make. It’s a pretty simple formula. You already saw it with the pre-bracket . They had the highest 3 (Illinois), the highest 4 (Texas) and their 1 was Gonzaga who they already beat on a neutral floor.

So wins against the top two Kenpom teams (Kentucky and Gonzaga) a better record than eight of the top nine, four points total from being undefeated in the ACC, nine points total from being undefeated on the season, a starting five who might end up being first round picks… but you think there are 8-11 teams more deserving than Duke? I dunno about that.

The wins are good. Alabama beat Gonzaga and Baylor. Tennessee has beaten Kentucky, Auburn, and Arizona. Lots of teams have quality wins. I could go on.

The record is mostly irrelevant because of weak competition. ACC is basically a tough mid major this year.

They lost close games. OK. But they lost to bad teams at home. That’s supposed to matter. The committee could change their mind about that, and maybe they will because it’s Duke. But it’s supposed to matter.

5 first round picks? Couldn’t matter less.

8+ more deserving teams? Based on resume, absolutely yes. Not that close really.

Does the sun come up in the east?
Yes, and bears **** in the woods.

We all know this is already where the committee is heading. Assuming we win down to the Saturday SEC game, we'll be locked in as Puke's #2 in Philly.

The committee is nothing more than a bunch of politicians that know how to jangle words around for justifications on their decisions. They don't care if it makes no sense, or even if it's clear as day that they are creating storylines and making up rationales for how the field lays out. They apply their rules strictly on some teams, but very loosely on others. Throwing in some word salad around it all when poked a bit about some of the oddities that they annually throw out.

Every year when UK and Puke are doing well, this Duke guy shows up and confuses people. So I want to get ahead of the next 4+ weeks and clarify that this "Dude1" is a Puke fan. I'm TheDude73 - Kentucky fan!

They are not gonna have 5 first round picks. I’d take Gonzaga roster for sure.

Unfortunately, when human beings are involved, emotions are involved.

Duke will have a good shot at a 1 seed because of that.

The committee will want to send K out with a bang, because he is their beloved.

On top of that, it’s a ratings thing. Keep K in the game because that puts eyeballs on the screen. Everyone will want to watch every Duke game in the tourney because it might be K’s last. The better the seed, the better the chances of Duke playing one more game.

Not today but since they play weaker teams could go unbeaten rest of way while all the others are beating each other.

I think we should tackle the bears in the woods problem first, easier to solve. Maybe give them keys to the nearest gas station bathroom. Some of them look like the bears have already been using them.

I enjoyed seeing the losses by the five teams ahead of UK, but then we lost too. And the really bad part was seeing Duke at number 7 winning.

Still some ball to play.
If the cats win out and a couple other teams spit the bit, Ky may get a 1 seed.

Duke should not be a 1 seed yet but I believe if Duke wins out and does so impressively like this past game vs the CUSE, including on a neutral floor during the ACC tournament, would warrant consideration at the least. I am quite fine with a #2 seed to be honest. This Duke team has been difficult to beat all year. I feel good about this team right now. They are healthy and Griffin and Roach are playing very well, which Duke did not have that from them early in the year. The team is starting to click at the right time.

It seems a lot of people are overlooking OPs original post. It’s not the fact they have quad 2 and 3 losses. It’s the fact they have a high probability of winning out and winning their conference tournament.

Combine that with the fact that every team in front of them with the exception of Gonzaga is almost certainly going to lose one more game. It just opens the path for Dukes 1 seed.

we can discuss metrics and ACC being down. But at the end of the day of Duke wins out they will get a 1seed at 30 and 4. Anyone thinking differently is lying to themselves.

Maybe because they are Duke. They are absolutely undeserving even if they win out.

They’ve played only 6 Quad 1 games. They have 2 Quad 2 losses and a Quad 3 loss.

Even with a couple of big wins, that’s a 3 seed resume at best. But they are Duke.

In order to make Duke a one seed, the committee would have to basically violate everything they have been saying all along. I don't see if happening as long as the teams that are currently ahead of them keep winning. But, another event like what happened on Saturday and Duke might be the overall number 1. Yuck!

It's going to be hard even for the NCAA to justify it based on resume. Too many teams to jump. Not enough quality wins.

I would be stunned if they get a 1.

I would be equally stunned tho if they aren't a 2.

Syracuse's 221st ranked defense reared its ugly head on Saturday.

That’s an awful defense.

I think the real question is how far up that 2 line do they get, obviously they prob want to get to the the East, as it stands now they would have to jump UK and Auburn to get there.

If I was Duke I would honestly be thrilled to get Baylor in the South, I think they would be favored for sure.

Duke's actually shooting the ball well from three right now. 37% on the season. The lowest percentage from three in their rotation (outside of their big men) is Banchero at 30%. They actually don't have any three point liabilities like we do with Brooks and Wheeler. Two lottery picks, including a top 4 pick, and multiple matchup problems on the court.

They have the feel of that 2015 team. I hate Duke (probably more than most of you), but this is going exactly the way I thought it would go in Coach K's last season.

If they get Baylor, pencil them in to the Final Four. If they draw UK for that Elite Eight game, get ready for an all-out war (like we had in 2017 against UNC).

I really don’t see how we end up playing them unless it’s the final 4. Basically UK would have to lose to Florida and early in the SEC and fall to a 3.

This is a prime example of a team that's better than their resume is. Playing in a weak ACC, they haven't had many opportunities for big wins and thus their resume looks worse than it normally would be.

Despite people thinking the NCAA has a love affair with them, the opposite might happen this season. They might get underseeded and overperform in the tournament because of it.

These just remind me of some of the earlier UK teams under Cal where we were docked a seed line or so based on our resume due to playing in a weak SEC.

They didn't help themselves by losing at home to Miami and UVA. The UVA loss was recent and in both games, duke could not stop straight line drives to the rack. Both teams shredded duke by driving the ball right through the heart of the paint.

They definitely look better to me right now though. They’re making shots and as we all know, that usually gets the defense going.

Duke will win their last two games and run through the ACC tourney. They will not deserve a one seed, but they will get it. And there is little doubt in my mind that we will be their two in Philly. I’m pretty sure this has been the golden plan since K announced his retirement.

I think at the end of the day they are probably going to be a 2 seed. Kinda 50/50 on if I picked 6-8 teams that I think could win the title if they would be there or not.

Is it just me (and I KNOW it isn't....) but look at how this season is panning out for storylines pretty much based on rematches.

Kentucky paired with Duke in the East region on the 30th anniversary of the 92' game? Too juicy to pass up on setting that matchup. PLUS, they played earlier this year. How convenient.

Tennessee being paired with either Texas Tech or Texas on the way to get Arizona as a 1 seed rematch? Rematch upon rematch looking headed that way for the Vols.

Bama paired out west for Gonzaga, whom they beat? Throw Baylor in there too. People will remember Baylor beating thee Zags in the title game last year. Another rematch in the works. Sounds about right.

Some combination of these ridiculous rematch games will rear it's ugly head by the selection committee. It always does. In some combination, they HAVE to set it so that they can maximize TV audiences (and revenue, of course) and keep the viewership high.

I thought they were supposed to seed the teams 1 - 68 and just let the matchups follow the s curve where the rules will allow for it? Sure is "funny" how they get these return game rematches so often come tournament time when the teams just happen to fall on a seedline to allow for said matchups....

what's the mathematical odds of it happening like that EVERY YEAR?

It's also notable how the selection committee will undoubtedly conveniently overlook Duke's 2 quad 2 losses and a Quad 3 loss (Bad losses) in getting them a #1 seed. That, coupled with a 30-4 record when it's all said and done, and they will have their contrived reasons enough to put Duke as a 1 seed.

NO WAY a 30- 4 Duke team in Coach K's final year isn't a #1 seed.

How ridiculous THIS YEAR.
