Only down 25% ytd
You correct. I forgot to mention that in my original post that which was meant to be an in depth examination of the market. And you do realize that was the actual figures at the time up 5.25% on the day and down 25% year-to-date not from the markets high.
You might be surprised at the number of people who don't realize that if something drops 50% it has to rise 100% to get back to the original point though. I'm not trying to say you're one of those, but there are many (probably not on a university board where most are college graduates, but over the general populace).
Buy back in at 4-6 weeks from now...
If I were you I'd march to Wall Street, bust in to the nearest brokerage house and demand they put your money back.
A question for those of you that know about these things. Am I better off not contributing as much to my retirement account right now and just hoarding the extra money in a savings account?
I guess I’m a “day trader”, just don’t trade with a lot of money lol. Why not JNUG? You don’t think it will ever return to $60+?If you aren't a day trader don't touch JNUG.
If you have a reasonable amount in your account(s), it's much more important to worry about how your balance is allocated than how your contributions are. I also would not blindly accept the apparent conventional wisdom that this drop represents some kind of obvious buying opportunity. It can go much lower.
I would simply make sure you're contributing enough to get the full match if applicable and consider allocating a larger portion to a cash equivalent like money market if that's an option.
I put it into some type of money market account this morning. I've lost about a fourth of it, but this will at least stabilize it until all this craziness passes.
