You the gatekeeper of what people can and can't post? I'm just reporting about a kid who we were recruiting!Cool thread. I'm happy for both of them.
Lighten up, Frances. I said it was a cool thread, and I wished them both luck. You got a problem with that? You the gatekeeper of what people can and can't post? I'm just reporting about a kid who we were recruiting!
I assumed you were being a wise a**. My apologies if I was wrong.Lighten up, Frances. I said it was a cool thread, and I wished them both luck. You got a problem with that?
I was also preparing for a certain poster to come in with the blushing emojis proclaiming gloom and doom for RU and their need for recruiters with local ties. Perhaps I am missing it, but looking at PSU's coaches, none seem to have NJ-specific ties. Am I missing something? You know what is drawing recruits to Penn State? Winning, duh.I assumed you were being a wise a**. My apologies if I was wrong.
he thinks he is..excuses and spins are Knight shift Way.. try E.J. knightshift, since you dont understand recruiting connections. You the gatekeeper of what people can and can't post? I'm just reporting about a kid who we were recruiting!
I really don't get that mentality.Take it for what it's worth but I heard from a family who has a son playing at NJ Catholics that the kids want PSU offers and aren't really looking at RU now. I get that things can change but we've got a long way to go to get this turned around.
Why?I really don't get that mentality.
I've been to State College. I visited as a HS student. I hated it. There's your answer. Why?
If you were offered to play for the 2016 B1G Champion or were on the cusp of such an offer, you would choose your home state school that went 2-10 and got blown out 4 times last year?
Maybe competing teams should have flown banner planes around their camp "We are . . . convicted!!!"
Yes, if not for EJ PSU would never have had a chance. If only Ash saw the light and kept EJ on staff we would have continued to reel in all those 4* recruits.http://highschoolsports.nj.com/prev...ian-hardy-commits-to-penn-state-during-visit/
Our old friend EJ Barthel and Franklin at work
Now that's how a real fan named @Block R lays the smack down on a whiny fraud having an unfortunately similar name. There's no confusing you two.Yes, if not for EJ PSU would never have had a chance. If only Ash saw the light and kept EJ on staff we would have continued to reel in all those 4* recruits.
Fair enough. But if I am a 4*, last year's performance might have a lot of sway. Funny though- Donald Bedell from Rumson-Fair Haven transferred out of Rutgers after 1 year to I believe North Dakota because he hated it in New Brunswick.I've been to State College. The mods should change the later-registered's "R" to "Head" to avoid confusion.BlockR and Block R. :joy:
Lmao! The mods should change the later-registered's "R" to "Head" to avoid confusion.
If only we had that capability! The mods should change the later-registered's "R" to "Head" to avoid confusion.
One's in a slightly different font.i never realized there were two block R's. learn something new everyday.
If I remember correctly Bedell wasn't cutting it on the field either.Fair enough. But if I am a 4*, last year's performance might have a lot of sway. Funny though- Donald Bedell from Rumson-Fair Haven transferred out of Rutgers after 1 year to I believe North Dakota because he hated it in New Brunswick.
I talked to two different kids (not football players) who recently visited Georgia Tech--one hated it because it was in the middle of the city, and another loved it for the same reason. Different kids like different environments.
RU hired EJ in early October 2014. He was deemed to be a "Secret Weapon" to reverse recruiting losses.Yes, if not for EJ PSU would never have had a chance. If only Ash saw the light and kept EJ on staff we would have continued to reel in all those 4* recruits.

The big difference is that top football players choose schools differently then your average student. We can pretend the choose schools based on academics, location, campus etc. in reality most base it off primarily on football. They may give lip service to those other factors but the football program drives the bus. Those factors come into play almost as tie breakers.Fair enough. Penn State, even back in '96 as a HS junior, felt like a cult to me. We hopped back in the car after an hour on campus and drove home. Wait a minute: EJ Barthel was responsible for our 2-10 record? So Drew Mehringer really was a victim? But I also noted that the 2016 B1G championship to a 4* recruit is a hell of lot more attractive than a 2-10 record. But EJ Barthel must have really had a huge role in this.
I don't want to disparage EJ. Let's not forget, he was a Jersey kid who stayed home and represented us on the field. I also think he was a bit hamstrung by Flood during his tenure here as Recruiting Coordinator. But the notion that we're losing 4* Jersey kids to PSU because they hired EJ in a similar role is just plain idiotic. Kids don't commit to a school because of the Recruiting Coordinator, period.RU hired EJ in early October 2014. He was deemed to be a "Secret Weapon" to reverse recruiting losses.

Rutgers Recruiting Ranking- Rivals
2012- 24
2013- 45
2014- 57 (EJ on board)
2015- 53
2016- 78 (Flood/EJ's last class)
2017- 43 (EJ Gone)
That was some secret weapon.

It has me more like :angry:BlockR and Block R. :joy:
They are a perfect fit for each other. Their HC is a hype man and that kid has been nothing but hype in HS. Great upside, looks good in no pad camps but I have yet to see it on the field.

The people there are weird. It's considered on of the most beautiful campuses in the country for a reason.
Madison is probably the only I ever seen that might top our main campus.
You had me until you said it is one of the most beautiful campuses. My wife is a PSU alum and we are are often. I like the school and campus. It is not even close to one of the most beautiful. It's considered on of the most beautiful campuses in the country for a reason.
