I would like to see the foul distribution for this game. I know there was a big disparity. I wonder why Henderson did not play today too? We had our chances to win. A couple of missed lay ups at point blank range.

I want to say second half towards the beginning. Basically Nivar was playing pressure defense and somewhat knocked the ball loose, the dook guard (Jackson) recovered the ball and then swing through with her elbows high and I am pretty sure hit Nivar in the chin or nose.

It was not a basketball move and happened right in front of the same ref who made questionable call and no calls all day.
And I thought refs were required to review those if a coach requested it?

She was the only one who got open. If seem to be that the other four players just stood there. Their body language look like, I do not want the ball.

An AI comment on the FT situation:

Based on available reports from the 2025-26 women's NCAA basketball season, at least one instance has occurred where a team did not attempt a single free throw. West Virginia held Arizona State to zero free throw attempts on January 21, 2026, which was noted as a historic, rare occurrence in the sport.

So like CB said, our team played in historic circumstances. :(

What an effort by our ladies today. It’s not a moral victory. But I thought we grew a lot- especially since the Louisville and Stanford games. Taissa and Brooks were great and they’ve got 3+ years left. They’re going to be special.

-7 more made FGs
-+8 on the boards
-19 offensive rebounds
-46 paint points
-we rebounded half of our misses
-we took care of the ball much better this half
-19 assists

we lead in every category except the one fascinating one. Guys, we’ve got a good team. And they’re growing fast and at the right time

Can’t blame the players or coaches IMO. The ladies played hard. The coaches had the right game plan and made good adjustments from 1st to 2nd half. But if you’re like me and looking to get out some frustration, email the ACC about these 3. So clearly tipping the scales in a quality game like this one is wrong:

She’s a 4 and Taissa played 22 min and rightfully so….
Why rightfullly so? TQ played a good balanced game (8pts/7reb/3ast/3TO) but wasn’t dominant enough that Henderson shouldn’t get any play even if it’s at the three.

IMO, Henderson gives us speed on defense and is a three dimension threat offensively. She’s very disruptive defensively jumping the passing lanes and uses her quickness to drive while also being a threat from three. It makes zero sense that each time she has a great game, the following games she doesn’t play at all or a couple of minutes. That sort of PT inconsistency is what opens the door for transfers at the end of the season to seek consistent recognition of a player’s talents.

Absolutely crazy that we got 0 FTs. And YES obviously that was the difference maker. If ever there was a presser where CB should call something out forcefully, this was it. And she did, mostly. But I think her verbiage needed to be even stronger. As in fine-level worthy, in order to truly call attention to it. Otherwise, she's just a complainer.

So I for one am angry and dismayed. But not willing to 'call for investigations', as this is just bull-crap when your own coach doesn't call for it.

We beat them in just about every statistical category, on their GD home court. Except the GD FTs. What to say.

I normally don’t mind Maj. but Katie (blondie) and Pualani are horrible.

Plus they( dook)had several shots in the first half that bounced all around the rim and fell in. Once off the backboard even.

I agree with everyone about the difference in FT's. However before the year started I thought our weakness was at point guard. I honestly thought that EA would be better in that position than she has turned out to be. We didn't lose b/c of EA,but we did lose the game at the point guard position. I've said all season that the only guard that can beat their defender with the dribble is IN, however she isn't a point guard. I sure hope CB can find a quick point guard that can beat their defender with the dribble. All that guard has to be able to do is protect the ball and distribute the ball. I think there will be enough scoring, hopefully she can make her layups. I'm not upset with this loss, I do think we were robbed by the zebra's today. Move on from this loss and win the next game.
Also, the men's team doesn't have a guard that is quick enough to get by their defender.

TQ had an excellent game today. Good game overall. We missed a couple of point blank layups. I thought the game plan and coaching was excellent. We did have our chances to win this one. Hats out to Duke. They are a very good team. Hopefully, NC State can beat them on Thursday. It is going to be tough beating them at Duke. We will just need to win the next games coming up one at a time. Go Heels!
Hope Duke beats NC State in the most painful way possible for the Wuffies.

I’ve lost count of how many games Nivar has screwed us out of this year. Yes it was a BS charge call but you just can’t do that that late in the game right in front of a ref.
Everyone in this game who played double digit minutes made multiple mistakes that affected the score.

UNC played 9 deep. At the 3-5 positions we chose Toomey, Harris, Nivar, Queiroz , Brooks, Thomas and Hull over Henderson. we went 2 deep across every position except guard (because Kelly was out)

no team in p4 plays deeper than that in close games. So it is either/or. Someone above will sit to bring Henderson in.

I have been a big fan of Henderson all season; she is the only player I have felt worthy of more, and I have said it here more than once.

Banghart was asked about Henderson post-game and she addressed it directly. She said that Dook uses complicated offensive actions that take Dook players years to learn, and it takes our players a good bit to learn how to defend. She contrasted that with SMU (taking strays, lol) that as a team is not as technical yet (new roster) and their players do not have the talent to punish any mistakes. So Henderson played vs SMU extensively, but not ready for Dook.

and she stressed that Queiroz has been here an extra semester and has learned more.

so the basic answer here is that while Henderson is easily top 8 on this team in individual talent, she is not top ten in team defense execution.

some of this a paraphrase. A lot us me reading between the lines.

Whether we agree with CB or not is certainly worthy of debate, Henderson passes every eye test to me. her hustle is top notch. And her offensive efficiency is at the top for this team. But I do remind myself that the coaches are working with much more information than we have.

also worth noting that Toomey did not play at Dook last year. She had a learning curve too (in coaches’ eyes at least.) henderson is part of a trend, not an outlier.

The fine is $10,000 and it is paid directly by coaches, not UNC. Dabo Swinney can afford that, it is 1/1000th of his salary. most WBB coaches are going to feel that; I can’t remember the last one who willingly took that plunge. It would be 1/40th of CB’s salary.

And it would accomplish nothing except make herself and fans feel better.

Even though we lost, this might have been our best game of the season, maybe tied with the NCSU win. I like our trajectory - big contrast with NCSU, who got crushed at ND today. VT looks really good, but I think our post play will be much better. There were times today Toomey looked unguardable, and Harris was absolutely dominating the glass. Psyched for the end of the regular season, the Dook rematch, and the ACC tournament! And agree with everyone who says more Taliyah!

Agreed, if we play the same way in the 2nd or 3rd round of the NCAA tournament as we did today, I think we're likely going to win that game.
