He’s gonna play more than a lot of ppl think.

That man can score. Lot of those shots were DEEP and he’s barely straining/jumping.

he could be good for 3-5 baskets a game and thatd be more than enough.

Hope cal rides the hot hand when necessary.

very curious if he ever is open to Clarke Boston and Allen playing 1-3 for spurts.

So many combinations for this roster, it should be an excellent offensive team.

We’ve brought in plenty of labeled scorers over the years who never see the floor.

Is he quick and athletic enough to defend his man? That’s the only way he gets minutes and I have my doubts he’s that kind of player.

I've posted this before, but I was fortunate to see Dontaie warm up prior to the Louisville game in Rupp this past season, and was immediately sold on his shooting ability.

I have no idea if he can pass, dribble, rebound, or play defense. But I do know he can shoot the cover off a basketball. I get the feeling from watching him both in person and with these videos that he's perhaps not the quickest player out there. Nothing about him screams quick first step. With that said, I think this coming year he has one job - and it was the job that Jermarl Baker failed to fill, and the on that Juzang was only just scratching the surface of - spot shooter off the bench. I think he plays with Boston and Clarke, though not as a starter. He'll have one job, let the superstars draw the D, and hit the open 3. I think he'll fill that role spectacularly.

Man if Tyler Herro or Kyle Korver (who he’s gotten player comps to) can learn how to move his feet and play smart D, Allen can too.

At a full 6’6 he’s a lot longer and craftier than we realize.

May look “slow” but he covers lots of ground and is by all accounts a very smart player. Usually bodes well.

Who do you mean exactly? As far as gifted scorers that never saw the floor?

Seriously asking, I can’t honestly recall under cal too man players that came in avg 40-50 points a game in hs (competition notwithstanding that is impressive) or shooting that easy from that deep?

The whole team last year said he was the best shooter on the team and he couldn’t even play.

I think he’ll be golden for some bench scoring, he doesn’t need to start.

He’s used to handling the ball and shown vision and play making skills. More well rounded than ppl realize i believe. He’s just got a crafty old mans game and a sweet jumper.

Versa I said the same thing. Hope he doesn’t do that in games. But in college ball it might not matter. They don’t call the game right anyway and rarely call obvious walks.

That is not totally accurate about walking calls. Plus once a player is identified to do something the refs watch it more closely.

How many times will he be called for a walk before his jump shot? Or am I being too critical?
Your not.
I will blame that coach in front of him, if he doesn’t get that corrected.
Iirc Gimel Martinez got called a lot for similar...

He’s special but this is a tough year when you have kids like Boston and Clarke in front of you. He’ll get PT though. Too good not to.

You look at recent years and you have, typically, 8 guys getting 10 minutes or more with another guy or two getting high single digits average - getting clock in just some games, or for a stretch. You can bet on Askew, Mintz, Boston, Clarke, Brooks, and Sarr (assuming eligible) to be 6 of those guys. Two of Allen, Fletcher, Ware, Jackson end up in the rotation.

I am also wondering if that is not called at the next level ala “Hardin step back”.
After the first game or so, the college refs will call the **** outa that. But just on Allen...

Just watched - great stroke but LOTS of traveling... not even close. Picks up the ball (not in mid-dribble) and habit of hop/double step. Seems a bad habit that will be tough to undo. I mean I want him to be great - but this video definitely is loaded with shifty feet outside of a dribble. Sadly will be easier to guard too if that is his go to move... Come on D. - fix it please.

He is the back up 2g here this season and THE 2g next season regardless of bringing in Hardy or anyone else. Kid is a scoring machine .

Ware and Fletcher will won't play as much but yes those 8 will be our main guys.

The same “travel” move that folks are mentioning is the same move Brandon Boston has done in a lot of his videos . In fact it’s just a move a lot of guys coming up in this generation are doing .

Don’t see him doing it in the game

I think he sure as hell could at some points for stretches. That’d be a huge lineup. Allen has a 7’2 wingspan.

I noticed the same thing. He's doing his hop to set his feet after he catches the ball, instead of before or while going into the catch.

That's the sort of bad habit that can result in travelling violations.

spot no. in the past 5 years the 7th and 8th man in the rotation were:

2019:
7th: brooks 15mpg 4ppg
8th: juzang 12mpg 3ppg

2018:
7th: EJ 15 mpg 4 ppg
8tht: Richards 12mpg 4 ppg

2017:
7th: JV 17 mpg 6ppg
8th: Richards 14mpg 5ppg

2016:
7th: Gabriel 17mpg 4ppg
8th: Mulder 10mpg 4ppg

2015:
7th Skal 15mpg 6ppg
8th Mathews 10mpg 1ppg

average
7th: 15.8 mpg 4.8ppg
8th: 11.6mpg 3.4ppg

if you are the 7th or 8th guy in the rotation, your contribution is very minimal. and right now the guys getting top minutes would be: mintz, askew, clarke, boston, brooks, and sarr. a third big (ware or jackson) will get minutes a lot of minutes as well. leaving ware or jackson, fletcher, and allen fight for the 8th spot.

I was pretty clear in saying 8 guys get at least 10 minutes, and you tell me the 7th guy gets about 15 minutes and the 8th guy gets 10-12 minutes. Never said they were the top contributors, but if you're playing 12-15 minutes a game you're "in the rotation."

Kids from my hometown and has great character. If he fully recovers from injury, most of your concerns will be erased. Before injury, he had a serious shot at the NBA and was shooting up recruiting rankings. He is coming from a small town, so he wasn't found until a bit later. Coach Justus met with him earlier than most people realize. He looks slower than I remember but he is just shooting around. If he recovers, he will see plenty of minutes. It may be a few years but he can be a star. He could definitely be our next Herro or SGA. The nice thing about him is he grew up dreaming of playing for UK and the NBA is next. He won't be in a hurry to bolt but if fully recovered don't be surprised if he makes it to the league.
