Does Hobbs know what he's doing?

My take is, that if Schiano is not the guy, then Hobbs already knows that and the search has already moved past him; why else would he have fired Ash that quickly into the season? I personally think Hobbs know's what he's doing here; there are also people behind the scenes that are working with him on this. Schiano is still in play; It's not that there aren't a number of coaches that wouldn't be a good hire; the problem is, who would they take the position where our program is right now? I still think that Schiano should be that guy, if not only for the fact that he can step right in and do what he knows he will have to do. I look at Schiano as the guy who will not take us to the mountaintop, but someone who will START us up the mountain. Then, we will be in a position, say 5 years from now, to hire the type of guy that will be able to step in and continue us on that path. It's going to be that difficult of a job....

He's not a football AD.

Went to (and worked for) basketball schools.

A big time college football team is a bit like managing a military. Your HC is your general. Your college admins are your Washington DC. If your gov sucks and your generals sucks things get ugly .

This is a dumb argument. Plenty of successful AD’s had no prior football experience. He made a hire after 5 days which was stupid. That doesn’t mean his next hire won’t be the right one. He’s made a number of good hires that have nothing to with basketball.

He's done some very good things, stuff that nobody has done before at RU. He needs to get this one right. If Schiano "wants" the job, his choice should be easy. If he doesn't, he has a lot of work to do and better be right.

Hobbs is very intelligent and knows how to lead a search. He’s improved basically every sport besides football, which is most important. You don’t have to be a football guy to bring in football people, you have to know how to network and put people in positions to succeed. We’ve never had an AD as good as Hobbs to do that.

Don't think you understand football either. Its not just the AD in a vacuum. Hobbs is a basketball guy in a broken football program. As a RU fan you're excused.

Agree, I think he makes the right move here. Either way, we will have to be very patient with whomever he chooses; it's going to take at least 4-5 years.

He has no idea how quickly things are going to spiral out of control. I'll be surprised if Rutgers is fielding a team by the end of the season.

Smart? Some law dean from a pulse school. The guy is in way over his head.

It’s still to early to tell but unless the desired/hired coach is someone who is unemployed (Schiano), the firing would come across as a knee-jerk reaction due to his disgust with continuously poor play. Because otherwise, there is no reason to release a scandal-free coach so early in the season as it only makes the loses worse and causes further disarray.

If Hobbs truly knows what he is doing, he has probably been researching options for more than a year now. Short of a miracle, it could be seen that Ash's firing was a matter of when, not if.

This year went even worse than any of us could imagine, including Hobbs. The people left attending games were getting increasingly vocal about their demands to get rid of Ash and their anger was being directed to the AD and school for inaction. So, Hobbs gave the mob Ash's head to reduce the anger towards the school and the program. Losing the rest of the games would probably happen regardless, losing with Ash as HC would have been even worse for the program.

Lack of statements and movement does not necessarily reflect a man without a plan. Any coach currently employed would not explore the RU job during the season. If we turn straight to Schiano, then he has RU over the barrel when it comes to contract negotiations.

Best course of action is to perform due diligence, research the best options available and line up the financing needed to pay for the HC and staff. Make a move as quickly as possible at the end of the season. This frustrates all the fans, but is probably the best course of action.

Disagree completely. If you’re mediocre and you’re trying to become elite, that takes patience. When you’ve been Ash’d and suck as badly as we do, showing some signs of improvement shouldn’t take long. It’ll be a long time before we post a winning season again, but there needs to be signs of improvement. Faith without results is idiotic.
