Well this is also the most irrational, emotionally driven fan base in sports too so I’m not shocked

Majority of the fan base on and off this board has lost respect for John Calipari and no longer support him. Just because you don’t agree doesn’t make anyone “irrational and emotionally driven”.

In fact, it’s people like yourself (relatively intelligent and well meaning enough) that have succumbed to major irrationality and emotionally driven feelings. Cognitive dissonance. Big time.

To me, and others, this simply sounds like projection on your part. Big time.

That’s a lot of meaningless words

The people clamoring for Cal to be fired now are embarrassing to the program and have no idea what could happen to the program if replacement didn’t work out.

Actually at this point, it’s an irrelevant exercise to post a 1,000 threads whether you, I or anyone else supports Cal. I’m good with him leaving tomorrow. But Cal is going to be coaching UK next year and nothing will change that. So in my opinion, we all better hope he makes the necessary changes to be successful. That of course, remains to be seen at this point.

I do too and understand the frustration. I think Cal needs to change and build us a team. He very well may never do so but I also still trust he can give us a better shot than most of these coaches. Can’t help but respect him for bringing us back and memories of teams he put together that I loved. I remember the hopelessness of wondering if we will ever find a coach that could turn it all around. He did it then and I believe he can do it again for some reason.

Lukaz, I'm not trying to start an arguement with you or anyone else, but let's look at some facts. Cal is NOT going to change, in my opinion. For the last 5 or 6 years, we have hoped he would, but to no avail. His primary goal is not the same as UK fans. You and I want to win another NC, but his primary goal is to get players to the NBA. The game has passed Cal by, but he refuses to acknowledge it. Playing the three point game, is not going to get players to the NBA, as much as being able to do the "Dribble Drive."
When BCG left, our program was not near as bad as when Pitino took over. There are a lot of good young coaches out there, who would do a better job then Cal has done, the last 5 or 6 years. Cal is no longer getting the TOP recruits, and his coaching has changed since he was at U Mass., just as his goals for the players have.
Cal will get some good players, most of them ranked in the 30's or higher. With his coaching, that will get us to possibly an Elite 8, but likely not much higher. As we saw this year, other SEC programs are hiring young coaches, who realize the game has changed. Take a look at some of the top teams in the NCAAT this year. Most of them can shoot the three, which levels the playing field.
Al McGuire had it correct, when he basically said, "We are UK, and we had it before any coach and we will have it after any coach is gone." Cal did not make UK, it's just the opposite. UK made Cal, but he is to arrogant to admit it. He was basically a no body when he come to UK. He got completely out coached by Self in the NCAAT final. He had wins taken away from him at two different schools. I know, he was not penalized by the NCAA, and very few coaches are. It's hard to prove a coach knows anything when they say they didn't. The player or the assistants are usually the fall guy. I'm not a Cal hater, just a UK lover, probably longer then anyone on this board, at 81 years old, and been listening and watching UK since around 1947, with my Grandpa.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

He’s been shoving the “we are a young team & we are getting better” line for this whole decade and my dummy self fed into it until just a few years ago.

The fact you are talking about cognitive dissonance in a thread that clearly shows the majority of the fanbase does not want Calipari fired really is something

Agree completely with willievic
i can go back to the late 60’s

Why does Cal say constantly ”we are the gold standard?” Mainly because of Rupp who built the greatest basketball tradition in the college ranks. If I am not mistaken the entire starting 5 were on the 1948 Olympic team. Joe B kept this going and Pitino resurrected it. Cal did build it back up after BCG but we were nowhere near the depths after Sutton left and Pitino came as the coach. There were people saying that UK would never recover!

AsWillievic stated, Cal did not make UK, it's just the opposite. UK made Cal. The top recruits today understand that they can go anywhere for college for 1 year then get drafted. Don’t need to go to Duke or UK or even college, there are overseas and G league options. But, UK can still get good players but then coaching has to be done to develop a TEAM! Fans goals are competing for SEC and National Championships. Cal’s goal is to put kids in the NBA and if he does this he is most happy. If UK wins, that is secondary. I don’t think he is going to be getting many OAD recruits because of my observations above and because he messed up 2 surefire OADs this year. That collides with his goals and now he could be looked at as having slipped as UK players don’t go to the pros like they once did. He is in a pickle!

No excuse in this team winning only 8 games...NONE..That being said,Cal needs to change his philosophy especially on the offensive end, plus I wouldn't mind him bringing Antiqua back, that was a great combination. If he can do those things,I will support him but it's on him at this point..something HAS to change.

Again, not meaningless just because you don’t agree or because it proves you wrong.

Stop trying to diminish and flippantly cast aside people’s criticisms as “unhinged” or “emotional” just because you don’t agree. That’s childish. You’re simply wrong man. You just are.

Be well.

If he hadn't followed up an NIT with 2 straight final fours I'd say no.

So basically if we aren't REALLY FREAKING GOOD next year he needs to be fired out of a cannon

This was an atrocious and unacceptable season, but I still support the coach. I think(hope) this season will have light a spark under his butt to actually change things and not just speak it. He's accomplished way too much and been a great ambassador for the program. He deserves a chance to right the ship.

This was from March.

Someone is saying they've posted similar polls with a mere 8% saying they want Cal gone. Clearly, this person is full of crap.

At this point I’ve become apathetic about UK basketball. Partially because of the pandemic and my age, but mostly because of how it’s now being run. I used to look forward to players returning, seeing them progress from season to season. One and done doesn’t agree with me. I find it hard to buy into a new team every year. Couple that with the lack of success and Cal’s unwillingness to change and I’m just burned out. Losses used to hurt but now they are almost expected. Sigh…
