I do too and understand the frustration. I think Cal needs to change and build us a team. He very well may never do so but I also still trust he can give us a better shot than most of these coaches. Can’t help but respect him for bringing us back and memories of teams he put together that I loved. I remember the hopelessness of wondering if we will ever find a coach that could turn it all around. He did it then and I believe he can do it again for some reason.
Lukaz, I'm not trying to start an arguement with you or anyone else, but let's look at some facts. Cal is NOT going to change, in my opinion. For the last 5 or 6 years, we have hoped he would, but to no avail. His primary goal is not the same as UK fans. You and I want to win another NC, but his primary goal is to get players to the NBA. The game has passed Cal by, but he refuses to acknowledge it. Playing the three point game, is not going to get players to the NBA, as much as being able to do the "Dribble Drive."
When BCG left, our program was not near as bad as when Pitino took over. There are a lot of good young coaches out there, who would do a better job then Cal has done, the last 5 or 6 years. Cal is no longer getting the TOP recruits, and his coaching has changed since he was at U Mass., just as his goals for the players have.
Cal will get some good players, most of them ranked in the 30's or higher. With his coaching, that will get us to possibly an Elite 8, but likely not much higher. As we saw this year, other SEC programs are hiring young coaches, who realize the game has changed. Take a look at some of the top teams in the NCAAT this year. Most of them can shoot the three, which levels the playing field.
Al McGuire had it correct, when he basically said, "We are UK, and we had it before any coach and we will have it after any coach is gone." Cal did not make UK, it's just the opposite. UK made Cal, but he is to arrogant to admit it. He was basically a no body when he come to UK. He got completely out coached by Self in the NCAAT final. He had wins taken away from him at two different schools. I know, he was not penalized by the NCAA, and very few coaches are. It's hard to prove a coach knows anything when they say they didn't. The player or the assistants are usually the fall guy. I'm not a Cal hater, just a UK lover, probably longer then anyone on this board, at 81 years old, and been listening and watching UK since around 1947, with my Grandpa.
OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
