Do we even need Oscar?

We need ā€˜em all. Every. One. Of. Them.
I disagree.

When we’re at full strength, guys that deserve to play will not play. So we actually have an overload.

Also, we don’t need Lance Ware. Never have. Never will. Should just be a big body to practice against. That’s it. And hopefully very soon that’s exactly what he will be.

As soon as Collins and Oscar are back, Ware is done. Can’t possibly keep playing Ware over Ugonna. Dude erases and alters shots with ease.
This is obvious

but Cal loves ware for whatever reason so he will still play.
Only time ware should play is Oscar and Ugonna and Collins foul out or in heavy foul trouble

Once Oscar is back Wares minutes should be 2 or 3 a game. Ugonna backing up Big O is a luxury we haven't seen in long time. Oscar will pick up 2 quick fouls. When that happens Ugonna see a block party.

Ware played well tonight. Needs to work on his free throws. I think he loves being at UK. Reminds me of the Yankee catcher John Blanchard who was good but he was playing behind Elston Howard and Yogi Berra who were mvp quality. He was famous for the quote, "play me or keep me". Ware plays with chip on his shoulder too.

We’re a LOT less soft than in recent years, that’s for sure.
Amen. I was getting sick of seeing a bunch of tall skinny 19 year old kids with ā€œpotentialā€ getting pushed around every time we played a team with 21-22 year old upperclassman. This team isn’t going to get pushed around or out muscled. Happy to see a group of guys that look like they can kick the other guy’s asses again.

I don’t care what Ware likes or how Ware feels. He’s vastly inferior to Toppin, Collins, Oscar, and Ugonna. When you have those four guys in the front court, there’s no reason to ever give Ware meaningful minutes.

Absolutely. They all bring something to the table. People criticizing Ware and Wheeler are just wrong. But, no convincing them that they are important. And, I'm not suggesting they are better than those ahead of them, just saying they are important pieces to the whole puzzle.
Important for practice purposes. Don’t need either playing meaningful minutes in games. If both weren’t on the roster, we’d be just fine.

I swear, some people act like Wheeler is terrible.

He isn’t terrible man but if you can’t see that he’s a liability in the halfcourt offense idk what to tell you.

Tennessee series last year is a prime example. They took a but whoopin in Rupp, then Barnes adjusted and played Wheeler very differently the next two games and UT won easily. Other teams took notice.

People make a big deal out of the UNC and KU games but here’s the thing: UNC always runs. That was Roy’s style and it’s Hubert’s too. Wheeler will burn you in that type of game. But in a halfcourt game it’s like playing 4 on 5 with him in there. And as far as KU, people forget they were without Remy Martin, and Bill Self’s dad had just passed away a few days before.

I never said he didn’t have weaknesses but he’s still a valuable player.

I disagree. If ware can hit a decent amount of free throws he will provide quality minutes. He is a brute. Ugonna slowed down in the later part of the game against the thick dude for Howard. It’s a long season.

I actually like Ware. I love his hustle and his attitude. Guy plays his *** off and is the type of guy who just gets under the opponent’s skin, which is useful.

not going to count on him hitting a decent amount of free throws, though

Lance played very well and has a nice role on this team. Not sure why the hate but Lance can ball and gives us something a little different from Oscar and Oyenso.

Needs to work on FTs yes… we just came off an off season did he?

he needs to work on being a basketball player.

But he does seem like likes it at UK so that is good. No chemistry problems

He's perfectly fine when he sticks to the hustle and solid defense, like we saw last night. It's when he tries to do too much offensively, that he becomes a liability.

We need Oscar doing the devotions and Bible Study before practices and games. Keeping the rest of the team on the straight and narrow.

Ware is the tough guy on the floor. You need a bruiser when the other team starts pushing our players around. Maybe Cal wants that toughness to protect the others.
