You are young, I get it. But the term Ni**er has decades of history of hate behind it. Men and women died trying to change it.
You are young, the argument shows that you like others do not believe in accountability.
Just because you and your friends use it as a term of endearment doesn't make it less offensive.
The issue is when originally came out, the first response was ignorance and then the hacking lie, then they decided to erase the tweet. So yes, I agree it sad that people went that far back, but what is telling is that individuals, like yourself, don't see past yourself and see the whole picture on how a segment of society do not and will not ever accept a racial slur as okay or normal.
No, the term n****a and the derogatory word you chose is
not the same thing. But I want to unpack this.
Who needs to accept accountability and for what?
I have many black friends, I'm originally from Memphis, a predominately black city. I don't much anymore because it kind of fades, but we've all used that word to talk to each other. No one is offended in that context, it's a
different word.
I had no control over the shift of that word into another word with totally different meaning. All I know is when I was growing up in my area, the word was used by everyone.
You would think a person like you who is so moral would love the idea that the word has been desensitized to the point where black people call
each other that word. The word has been reduced to a split meaning and the worst part of it is rarely used today. Not like it was in your day I'd assume.
If you have a problem with racial slurs, the word we're talking about, and homophobia, you need to start a boycott of rap music and really you're 2 decades too late. But I'm sure you're not concerned about that.
I agree about the coverup, but I don't blame them. People have no idea how to respond to this crap today, and are afraid. If everyone would stop lying and using race as a wedge, it wouldn't happen.
