Pretty pathetic display of refereeing to decide a race and team title like that.
Pretty pathetic display of refereeing to decide a race and team title like that.
Reminds me of this BS.
This is the issue. I think the same kid was warned for the same behavior earlier in the same meet. He can’t be surprised this happened. It appears this same student had been warned about celebrating earlier in the meet. This was his second violation. I disagree with the DQ but that young man needs to get his head out of his own ***.
Celebrating during the race. He had flexed earlier and was warned about it. While it seems minor, this kid was made fully aware and, I assume, just lost his head thinking they won state.I’m not sure what rule was broken?
I watched that video and am still trying to figure out what behavior they were trying to discourage with that DQ. The Mallard athlete who crossed the finish line in first merely held his left hand up, with ALL FIVE fingers extended, and then only for a moment or two. Was there some other celebration by his teammates, off camera, that explains this DQ? If not, it was completely unjustified, IMHO.I say we beat the crap out of the officials that disqualified him and see if they still feel the same way.
Gotta discourage this behavior somehow........
Seems bright. Continue doing what you were already warned not to do. Bet everyone acted super shocked and upset with the DQ?It appears this same student had been warned about celebrating earlier in the meet. This was his second violation. I disagree with the DQ but that young man needs to get his head out of his own ***.
I agree - I'm not sure what choice they had. If they don't DQ him the other teams file a protest. Better to follow the rules than cut that team a break and unleash holy hell. That they can defend.Seems bright. Continue doing what you were already warned not to do. Bet everyone acted super shocked and upset with the DQ?
I'll also add that what he did wasn't egregious at all given our times, so I dont think he crossed some major line, but rules are rules.
What was the behavior? Lifting up his hand? Ridiculous. This is the issue. I think the same kid was warned for the same behavior earlier in the same meet. He can’t be surprised this happened.
There’s a rule you can’t extend your hand with five fingers while running? I’d like to see that in the book.Seems bright. Continue doing what you were already warned not to do. Bet everyone acted super shocked and upset with the DQ?
I'll also add that what he did wasn't egregious at all given our times, so I dont think he crossed some major line, but rules are rules.
Adding in for further context: As Nyan Brown prepared to cross the finish line to win the 4x400 for the Mavericks, he held his hand up in celebration. Track rules are strict in that athletes cannot celebrate during the race. The officials said Mallard Creek received a warning for taunting after the 300m hurdles earlier in day. A second violation resulted in the DQ.There’s a rule you can’t extend your hand with five fingers while running? I’d like to see that in the book.
Celebrating during the race. He was warned after he did it earlier in the day. It's harsh for sure but he can't be surprised. He was warned and didn't listen. What was the behavior? Lifting up his hand? Ridiculous.
I guess I don’t really see how that’s a celebration, huh.Celebrating during the race. He was warned after he did it earlier in the day. It's harsh for sure but he can't be surprised. He was warned and didn't listen.
It was pretty obviousI guess I don’t really see how that’s a celebration, huh.
To me celebrating is throwing both arms in the air or turning around and mean mugging the other runners. That’s a pretty demure “celebration” but I guess the rule sticklers win this one.It was pretty obvious
Celebrations are discretionary. You're smarter than that. Not sure why you always pick hills like this to die on. Draymond Green probably draws some T's others wouldn't due to reputation and being warned. I cost my HS basketball team a game after getting warned about my frustration showing, yes frustration showing, then got T'd up after I slapped my leg. There’s a rule you can’t extend your hand with five fingers while running? I’d like to see that in the book.
It was pretty weak imo but rules are rules. To me celebrating is throwing both arms in the air or turning around and mean mugging the other runners. That’s a pretty demure “celebration” but I guess the rule sticklers win this one.
Torbee will still die on that hill, book it.Adding in for further context: As Nyan Brown prepared to cross the finish line to win the 4x400 for the Mavericks, he held his hand up in celebration. He was, apparently, the kid who got the earlier warning. He didn't leave them much choice.
Like I said, officials had to choose between following the rules or giving the other teams an opportunity to make a stink. The kid made it pretty simple. To me celebrating is throwing both arms in the air or turning around and mean mugging the other runners. That’s a pretty demure “celebration” but I guess the rule sticklers win this one.
Right. Officials have to draw the line, whether it was weak or not. If they don’t, everything becomes speculation of what should be DQ worthy than what is DQ worthy.Like I said, officials had to choose between following the rules or giving the other teams an opportunity to make a stink. The kid made it pretty simple.
I can't imagine any rule that prohibits that. If there is one, it's a gay rule.Seems like they've got a specific rule, and the team was already warned once.
The rule might be silly, and you might disagree, but that doesn't mean you get to ignore it. It's still a rule.
You can’t in any circumstance imagine a rule like that existing without it being gay?I can't imagine any rule that prohibits that. If there is one, it's a gay rule.
Die on? lol.Celebrations are discretionary. You're smarter than that. Not sure why you always pick hills like this to die on. Draymond Green probably draws some T's others wouldn't due to reputation and being warned. There isnt much to argue, yet it seemed you wanted to. The kid was warned, did what he was warned about again, and cost his team. Kids an idiot. Anyone defending that is why we have an accountability issue with our youth. If that was the kids first offense, I'd share some outrage, because it was very minor.Die on? lol.
My opinion is that isn’t what I’d call a celebration.
That’s literally all. I even added “I guess the rule stickers win this one.”
Anyone defending that is why we have an accountability issue with our youth.
I just think it’s a super dumb rule. Make an excessive celebration rule if there’s some kind of sportsmanship problem. What that kid did was not unsportsmanlike to any rational human. There isnt much to argue, yet it seemed you wanted to. The kid was warned, did what he was warned about again, and cost his team. Do we have an accountability issue with the youth?
Yes. Bigly. Talk to some teachers or coaches and see what they say. Everyone's kid is a perfect little angel that never does any wrong. Teacher/coaching/officiating shortage isn't due to pay. Parents have made kids sporting events almost unbearable, and im talking 4th grade and up.Do we have an accountability issue with the youth?
Its a really stupid rule, and I agree it was very very minor and then a little more minor than that. However, if he was warned for that action, or something similar, and decided to do it again. He fudged up and thats on him. Learning opportunity.I just think it’s a super dumb rule. Make an excessive celebration rule if there’s some kind of sportsmanship problem. What that kid did was not unsportsmanlike to any rational human.
