That's rough. I wouldn't have called it, but it's probably technically correct.

If I was on the official crew I would have let whomever called it that I thought they were being excessive.

Reminds me of this BS.

That was the last game I got to attend with my Dad. It was crazy. Our seats were two rows up from the Iowa bench right behind the line group. Being able to hear the coaching going on and see how the sideline worked was cool, and the sound of the hits was scary.

Some drunk lady in front of us got her and her husband booted for touching the players so the whole second half we were basically front row. Which reminds me, I still need to send her a thank you note.

I say we beat the crap out of the officials that disqualified him and see if they still feel the same way.

Gotta discourage this behavior somehow........

It appears this same student had been warned about celebrating earlier in the meet. This was his second violation. I disagree with the DQ but that young man needs to get his head out of his own ***.
This is the issue. I think the same kid was warned for the same behavior earlier in the same meet. He can’t be surprised this happened.

I watched that video and am still trying to figure out what behavior they were trying to discourage with that DQ. The Mallard athlete who crossed the finish line in first merely held his left hand up, with ALL FIVE fingers extended, and then only for a moment or two. Was there some other celebration by his teammates, off camera, that explains this DQ? If not, it was completely unjustified, IMHO.

Seems bright. Continue doing what you were already warned not to do. Bet everyone acted super shocked and upset with the DQ?

I'll also add that what he did wasn't egregious at all given our times, so I dont think he crossed some major line, but rules are rules.

I agree - I'm not sure what choice they had. If they don't DQ him the other teams file a protest. Better to follow the rules than cut that team a break and unleash holy hell. That they can defend.

There’s a rule you can’t extend your hand with five fingers while running? I’d like to see that in the book.

Adding in for further context: As Nyan Brown prepared to cross the finish line to win the 4x400 for the Mavericks, he held his hand up in celebration. Track rules are strict in that athletes cannot celebrate during the race. The officials said Mallard Creek received a warning for taunting after the 300m hurdles earlier in day. A second violation resulted in the DQ.

He was, apparently, the kid who got the earlier warning. He didn't leave them much choice.

Seems like they've got a specific rule, and the team was already warned once.

The rule might be silly, and you might disagree, but that doesn't mean you get to ignore it. It's still a rule.

It was pretty obvious
To me celebrating is throwing both arms in the air or turning around and mean mugging the other runners. That’s a pretty demure “celebration” but I guess the rule sticklers win this one.

Celebrations are discretionary. You're smarter than that. Not sure why you always pick hills like this to die on. Draymond Green probably draws some T's others wouldn't due to reputation and being warned. I cost my HS basketball team a game after getting warned about my frustration showing, yes frustration showing, then got T'd up after I slapped my leg.

It was pretty weak imo but rules are rules.

Truly ridiculous to dq the kid and rest of the relay team then the entire team from a state title. I don’t care what he did earlier. That’s not anything to get in trouble for. I’ve seen much worse over and over again. Some people should not be in a position of authority. It’s the last race of the meet to decide the title. Let the kids decide it on the track.

Torbee will still die on that hill, book it.

Like I said, officials had to choose between following the rules or giving the other teams an opportunity to make a stink. The kid made it pretty simple.

Right. Officials have to draw the line, whether it was weak or not. If they don’t, everything becomes speculation of what should be DQ worthy than what is DQ worthy.

I can't imagine any rule that prohibits that. If there is one, it's a gay rule.

Die on? lol.

My opinion is that isn’t what I’d call a celebration.

That’s literally all. I even added “I guess the rule stickers win this one.”

There isnt much to argue, yet it seemed you wanted to. The kid was warned, did what he was warned about again, and cost his team. Kids an idiot. Anyone defending that is why we have an accountability issue with our youth. If that was the kids first offense, I'd share some outrage, because it was very minor.

I just think it’s a super dumb rule. Make an excessive celebration rule if there’s some kind of sportsmanship problem. What that kid did was not unsportsmanlike to any rational human.

Yes. Bigly. Talk to some teachers or coaches and see what they say. Everyone's kid is a perfect little angel that never does any wrong. Teacher/coaching/officiating shortage isn't due to pay. Parents have made kids sporting events almost unbearable, and im talking 4th grade and up.

Hell, Clear Lake just fired a coach with a .800+ winning percentage because some kids complained to their parents they weren't getting played and the parents decided, instead of them working harder, they should just get the coach fired.

Its a really stupid rule, and I agree it was very very minor and then a little more minor than that. However, if he was warned for that action, or something similar, and decided to do it again. He fudged up and thats on him. Learning opportunity.
