Disappointed in the crowd...

It's not the same as it used to be. Not even close. Just people who don't care and don't bring it. I can't decide what sucked worse? Our defense, the refs, or the Rupp Retires.

If it takes the fans for us to win, God help us on the road in the SEC.

To be fair to the fans, there was really nothing to cheer for past the 10 minute mark in the first.

But if the fans are responsible for us winning or losing, are they allowed to quit cheering and not take part of the blame for losing. :)

Not sure about the "reactive" talk - isn't that human nature. Do you expect the same crowd if we're down by 15 or if we're up by 15?

IU had a great crowd vs Carolina the other night. But they were ahead the whole game, and there was much to be loud and boisterous about. If Carolina had jumped out to a 12 point lead and more or less kept it there, is there any doubt the noise level would've been different?

K bro thanks. Appreciate the input.

Man, you're bashing people who was your age at one time plus take pics of the knitting, it ain't true unless there are pics, Rule one. Plus nothing was going to help this group tonight, they faced talent equal to their own and they panicked, nothing more nothing less.

A very knowledgable fan base where the crowd reacts to plays on the court. I like that. Sounded to me like that cheered plenty. I absolutely hate crowds that feel that they are the entertainment. Standing and/or bouncing up and down for two hours is just stupid. Cheer for good play. Otherwise sit and enjoy the game. What's wrong with that?

Yes, it is a miracle that we had won all our home games but 7, in the last 8+ years with those damn Blue Hairs in the stands.

To hell with you and your Rupp Retirees comment. Minimal turnovers meant minimal transition. Very few dunks and lots of missed shots! Not to mention our defense was horrid. So exactly what was there to get the crowd excited about? They played poorly and Cal better bring Humphries along and fast because we need more bulk inside and on the boards.

UCLA earned this win, and they rightfully won the game. I'm also not going over react. While losing is frustrating, we will be fine. But...unless tv didn't reflect the noise correctly, the crowd didn't treat this like a big game, and when we needed the noise in the last 10 minutes....nothing. Reactive cheering the whole game.
The real avid fan has been priced out by UK Athletic Dept. The ticket office had many upper level tickets priced at $112.00 a pop. The seats in the upper arena stink. Why leave your 55" Ultra 4K TV for a $112 ticket.

What was there to stand and be loud for today..all of the five foot bricks, bricked layups, missed free throws, Willis passing up numerous open shots, getting out hustled, Briscoe stepping on the baseline over and over and over again, embarrassingly terrible defense, throwing alley oops to Hawkins, Fox's terrible shot selection, getting punked at home by a less talented team, etc ? So much to cheer for today. NOT. :/

Guess you are another one of those dividers on here huh that knows everything.

The crowd was fine but crowds don't win games. They can help influence but players gotta make plays.

Were you at the game?

Well you know, sometimes it's the crowd that can help make and sustain that run, instead of just responding to it after it happens.

A trend I've recently noticed in comments is the way many BBNers now seem to think the crowd's job is simply to be reactive, in essence: if you players please us, we'll respond, if you don't, we won't. There used to be more of a view that the crowd should be pro-active, in terms of trying to motivate the team when down, disrupt the opponent when up, etc., instead of just waiting for something to respond to. It's been a subtle yet quite noticeable shift in recent years.
With all due respect, our fans brought the energy today, but sadly the team didnt. The crowd wanted to rock, but it isnt going to happen for long when the team is playing crappy and constantly giving up baskets.
Rupps fans are too often laid back, but I've yet to see them lose us a basketball game

Don't like the crowd? Buy a ticket and cheer. Don't want to sit in upper? UK was selling lowers to the game.

Crowd blew it.

Rebounds: UCLA 41, Kentucky 38, Crowd 0
So true;. There was this little white headed lady dressed in blue who was sitting four rows up from the floor. She didn't get our of her seat one time to get a rebound or dunk the ball on a fast break. Why was she even at the game.

I was driving in the first half and listening to the game and it sounded real loud?

I was there and thought we did a pretty good job! Thats a huge cop-out to blame the fans! After the first few possessions, I just didn't have a good feeling about the game, and sadly my premonition turned out to be true. Regardless, this is a December loss to a very good team, but we will bounce back. Like Cal said, maybe they needed this...sometimes a dose of humility can go a long way!

********. I was at the game and the crowd was great. I was worried for Doug Shows' life a couple of times. You can blame a lot of things for the game but don't blame the crowd.
Same here. I was there and it was incredibly loud for all the good stuff and when we tried to rally. UCLA did what they had to do to shut us up whenever it seemed as if we might turn the corner. But my ears were ringing when I left.

You simply cannot tell on tv.

Sorry, but this strikes me as horseshit excuse-making. The crowd sure didn't appear "muted" when I watched that IU game a few nights ago. And it sure doesn't appear muted when I watch games at schools like Kansas, Duke or Michigan State either. Apparently the networks only like to do this muting thing when its at UK or UNC, the two schools that are notorious for giving all the good seats to the wine and cheese set and not the students.

I agree with the OP, I was a bit disappointed by what I saw of the crowd. An undefeated top 10 ranked UCLA opponent, UCLA's first ever trip to Rupp Arena--I thought for a matchup like that our fans would get mega-hyped up. But (although I admit I wasn't there), didn't really appear much the case on TV.

Apology accepted.

The crowd isn't as loud on tv as it is in person. That's a reality. It is also influenced by the network.

Those other games you referred to were aired on ESPN, today's game was on CBS.

One of the things fans used to love about the NBA on NBC, was that NBC sort of let you "feel" the crowd. When ABC got the NBA contract, they added some extra camera angles, and maybe a few mics, but they started adjusting down the crowd noise.

The production crew dictates a lot in terms of what you see and hear in a game. That's just the truth.

If the crowd wasn't into it, so be it. I'm not here to defend the crowd. I haven't been to Rupp in a nearly a decade. Mostly go to road games and the crowd is usually great.

Nonetheless, what you hear on tv is, at least in part, a function of the broadcast.

Now, go ahead and criticize the crowd some more. Because I do not care.
