Man, I have been a customer for a long time but this is getting old.... just got off the phone with them (over an Hour) with 3 different departments. My bill went up $70 this month as my promotion expired. Called and the customer service rep said she could save me $12 if I dropped to the lower package..... NO THANKS, Talked to the retention department, same thing, but then they said I qualified for the VIP department. Got transferred there and I miraculously was eligible for an immediate $60 rebate for 12 months??? I hate going thru this BS every year. Just give me a good price and stop dicking around!

Just started this month. They are the same crap as everyone else as far as customer service/billing is concerned. I’m just really not impressed with the product whatsoever though either. Once my free Sunday Ticket is gone, the cable is honestly gonna suck. On Demand, the guide, the remote, channel navigation, etc...it all sucks compared to even Prism.

It went off the deep end when ATT acquired them. My parents had been customers for like 17 years. They went to cancel to play the game to get a lower bill, new equipment, etc... Never got a call back. When we cancelled our DTV a few years back they called within 5 minutes. Used to have pretty good customer service, but now it is awful which is expected from ATT which is trash.

Yep, I have to do the same thing. With as many cheap streaming option, they are going to start losing customers who get tired of the hoops they make us jump through. My brother in law just switched to Youtube tv. He said it is $35 has DVR option and has all the sport channels including BIG10. Think Im going to finish my year with DTV and be done with them.

You are correct. I had a Directv installer say there was a lot of chatter in the organization that ATT sees no future in Directv and this leads to a lack of efforts to keep customers. DISH isn’t perfect either but after six months I prefer it to Directv. Admittedly, it probably would make more sense to have neither service, but I have been too lazy to research alternatives.

I prefer direct tv over dish but they just won't budge, imo direct has a better picture and the dish hopper is way over priced for what you get out of it, we only have found on program it actually hopped. Dish cut my bill in half for 3 months, and after 3 months I going to complain again, just a lot of garbage in every package

Can't change right now until hockey season is over but once it is, there's going to be a major change in my house. My son has PS Vue and it works great, that's likely where I'm heading on about May 1st.

I’ve had it for 20+ years and I also love it. Yes, I have to make one call a year to get my discount but I just asked for a customer retention and they take care of me. Unless I can find someone else that has the major-league baseball package and all the Big Ten channels, I can’t foresee changing anything.

Yeah, dont let them keep ripping you off. If youre able, go to an all internet based service. The sooner people drop these ripoff companies the sooner they MIGHT get the idea. Funny how DishTV suddenly wanted to deal when we moved to HuluTV.

Might be time to cut the cord. There are many decent streaming options to choose from. I dropped Centurylink 2 years ago, and have no regrets. I've also had Dish and DirecTV before. Satellite dishes have their own drawbacks. DirecTV is planning on getting out of the Satellite business eventually.

i worked for Directv 6 years. Left a year after ATT took over. All calls get routed to the phillipines. Those people had no clue what was going on. Then transferred calls to us. By then the customers were pissed. On top of that ATT had a special new tool they made us use that not only prolonged the call but also gave the incorrect fix to the issue. Still know people that work there for the money and dont give a sh.t about the customer.

Just got off the phone with them. Had question on funky billing. They said my account was current but I've only been charged 1 month ($50 in Oct) since August. I asked them to outline the terms of my contract and they had nothing, zero info! Told me I may want to talk with local office in person, even though they'd have the same exact info. Good grief........never seen anything like it! Lol

I'm curious about the DVR option. That has always been my one drawback with going with the streaming services. I rarely ever watch anything live. What is this DVR option? What do they use to store programming? Do they ship you a box? Do they use your PC?

I got rid of Prism 2 years ago but kept CL for internet. Luckily I can still use my CL login to watch all the streaming channels I had with Prism. Just watched the BBall game using fox sports app. Watched all the bowl games on espn app too. I am going to ride this out as long as I can.

So, let's say I'm 30 minutes late for a football game. I can watch it as if it were on a DVR? What about download limits imposed by most internet providers? One TB a month doesn't seem like much with TV streaming.

No box, and you have unlimited space in your DVR. Everything stays for 9 months in your space unless you delete it. You also get six accounts so you can have your own personal dvr and other family members can have theirs. great.

Works just like your current DVR except you have unlimited storage.

Not sure where everyone on here lives, but Lincoln was just named in top 10 cities for best average broadband speed at ~130Mbps. With that kind of average there is zero reason to stay with satellite IMO.

Depends on family size. I have no problems with a 1TB cap with Cox, and my connection is just 30mbps. I stream Philo, Netflix, and Hulu. Might run into trouble if I were streaming a lot in 4K.

To clarify a bit, "Unlimited" may be a misconception depending on how you look at it. In terms of amount you are allowed to DVR, most are unlimited and you just access it from their servers. However, some have a save duration limit. I believe Hulu is a 28- or 30-day limit, so it's not like you can just stock up on a half or entire season of a show and binge it over the weekend.

This will vary from service to service, but I remember Hulu had a duration limit.

As OP said, DVR is stored in the cloud. Depending upon service and mount you want to pay you can store x amount of hours of programming you want.

I got centrylink high speed net 40 a month for lifetime.
you tube tv 35 bucks. you can put on 5 devices.
so thats 75 a month, no extra charge, no hours of hassle on the phone.
I got a nvidia shield pro to stream, it's the fastest streamer there is, easy user face and you can save a lot of movies on it.

Question for all you cord cutters. I have 5 tv's in the house, three of which are a wall of tv's in my man cave-- a 47" tv, a 55" tv, and a 120" projector. How would you hook up a streaming service to those? I like to watch 2-3 games at once and I'm not about to give that up. I currently have 3 separate Directv receivers to watch these. Any way I could do that with a streaming service?

People vastly overestimate how much speed and data they need. Recommendations from Netflix:

  • 0.5 Megabits per second - Required broadband connection speed

  • 1.5 Megabits per second - Recommended broadband connection speed

  • 3.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for SD quality

  • 5.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for HD quality

  • 25 Megabits per second - Recommended for Ultra HD quality
How much data you want to chew up is the real question. I'd recommend streaming at 1080p and not 4k because the difference in video quality is hard to perceive, but the difference in data usage is massive. You'll double or triple the data consumed to watch in Ultra HD over HD.

People think they can tell a big difference between 1080p and 4K. They can't on the screen size and type most people have. If you've got an 85" plasma tv, maybe. If you've got a 50" LED or smaller like most, you won't be able to really notice.

The bigger question is how fast is your WiFi. If you have a cheapo little router like we do upstairs, you're paying for 75mbps of bandwidth but your router can only deliver a max of 11mbps well guess what? You saved $40 on your router so you could piss it away on your internet bill. Hardwire in an ethernet cable and you're blazing.

If you have 4 different people streaming things at once, or you're that guy who has to have his toaster, coffee maker, and 17 other devices on WiFi at all times, that's another story.

You could. You'd need 3 different devices, whether that was Roku, Fire Stick, game console, etc. I'd recommend wiring them all to an ethernet switch for how much data you'd want to pull to stream in HD to 3 devices at once. You'd need a hearty WiFi connection for that, but you can accomplish the same thing with much more speed for $15 worth of ethernet cable and one switch.

That must cost you quite a bit for 3 DirecTV receivers, so I assume the price for an internet plan and any purchase/install isn't really an obstacle. I say go for it and DON'T get DirecTV now. We use the in-laws' account and I think it's the worst of the streaming services. YouTube TV is the best IMO.

I have a Roku-enabled smart TV, PS3 and PS4, and Xbox360 that I've used for streaming. I find Roku's interface simplest to use but I don't love their tiny remote. It's easy to lose and fewer buttons means it can be trickier to accomplish some things.

I like using the Playstation the best because you can do more with the buttons on the PS controller, the drawback with the game consoles is they don't always support all the services.

I also own a fire stick but I haven't installed it yet. Check that you can get YouTube TV on whatever device you choose. Roku has it.

Boys, get YouTube TV and don't look back. If you have a google account you can do a week free trial, you're really going to like it. And you can cancel it at ANY TIME for NO PENALTY.

Have tried DirecTV Now (sucks IMO), Hulu Live (was garbage in beta, hear it's pretty good now), PS Vue (like it for live but the DVR has weaknesses for recording football games), and YouTube TV.

YouTube TV stands head and shoulders above the others and it's also cheaper and easier to manage your account. If we weren't getting DirecTV Now for free from my in-laws, I'd switch to YouTube TV in a heartbeat.

I had the same thing happen ....only they did not offer me anything but a token discount...my bill went from $98 to $154....and where I live I do have service disruptions anytime there is a snow/rain storm . I am going to dump them and go to a streaming service (my internet is fine through someone else). It will get my internet/TV bill to $90 per month from $200

hundreds of channels, and most of the time, nothing is on..

I remember when they first put cable tv in.. the sales pitch was No commercials..

Now you're paying $ every month, and being advertised to..

same thing happens on your cell phone plan.. what a racket that whole thing is too.

I quit after the $250 visa gift card I was promised for signing back up magically found a way to stay "pending" for a year and then disappeared from their records completely.

Besides, it's 2019. Not being able to watch tv if it rains is not acceptable any more.

Guess I should be glad Lincoln doesnt have ******** data caps with their ISPs. 300Mbps with Allo for $65 a month. No caps and legit 300 up and down.

And would consider YouTube tv when it gets to Lincoln (dont think its available yet) But Hulu Live is very nice. Barely used the earlier interface but its a nice easy to use one on my Xbox one. One thing to remember with Hulu LIve is that in addition to the Live tv that of course everyone wants, you also get Hulu's stand alone service that has older shows and movies that would normally be $8 a month iirc.

Moved from Cox to Directv. Liked the service and the wholehome DVR, but cut the cord about a year ago to save money. Chose Playstation Vue over others for the cloud DVR and the fact it had BTN (Sling did not and didn't want DirectvNow).

Purchased a Stream+ to DVR over the air due to the wife wanting to DVR local networks. However, we can watch all of them live now, so we don't really need that anymore and you can usually watch an episode a day later. Only bummer is many of your DVRed items in Playstation Vue cloud you can't fast forward through. Depends upon the channel and their agreement with Playstation.

Mainly use appleTV, stream+(which is androidtv), iPads/iphones and PCs to access channels. Playstation vue client continues to improve and acts consistently across platforms. Integrates well with ShowtimeAnytime and HBONow if you choose to get those channels on playstation vue.

YouTube was vaporware back then, probably will avoid them since I don't like Google in general (the company is Evil). Once you cut the cord, it is easy to switch to different providers because you already have the streaming devices that should support those clients.

Also have amazon prime, BTN+ and Netflix subscriptions.

Just talked to a friend that lives in Lincoln, he's waiting for YouTube TV to be available as well. Just checked the other day and it isn't available for him.
