Great question... anyone want to answer it?

Pure speculation on my part but I imagine from a university president perspective who comes from the scholarly world of academia that the NCAA should not be weighing in on what constitutes acceptable academic standards for a college or university. As a university president I am sure he has to believe his colleagues will act professionally and with integrity, even though some will not. I do not see his position as tolerance of UNC's behavior rather as protecting their turf from non-academia types. To scholars the world of academia is their arena and not an area they would give a sports based entity the power to make determinations with regards to whether academic standards were being met.

However, I would like to have seen some weight given to outside accreditation associations to have the authority to determine whether some classes, courses or even fields of study met adequate acadmic standards necessary to be counted toward achieving progress for a degree. Just not the NCAA.

UNC agrees. They believe the school should be able to have all the fake classes they want and the NCAA should have nothing to do with it.

I seem to remember that among all of the other nonsense going on at UNC that there was an issue with players exceeding the number of independent studies courses that the university allows. If that is true, then any courses over the max should not have counted. There is no need for an academic judgement on that, it is just simply math (although that might be difficult for an unc graduate).

Or maybe your president doesn't want the NCAA looking into classes that so many OAD players are taking during the few months they are on campus. And before anyone here bashes me, I remember what Zion's class schedule looked like. A lot of these players aren't in college for the academics.

Not disagreeing with you there, but if you think most of these OAD athletes are in college to get an education, then that's delusional thinking on your part. They should be allowed to play in the NBA, not wasting their time in college.

Pretend like your schools are paragons of academia but when we get a glimpse under the hood your schools sell their academic integrity for athletic success. Re Vitale....he long ago lost credibility in my eyes, when he vilified UK and our fans for RUNNING OFF TUBBY, and alluded to a racist cause. We know Tubby was shopping for jobs apparently for a while, and essentially left under the cover of darkness, on very short notice.
