Has no right hand. Only attacks the rim from the left side. It seems so obvious and easy to shade and only give room to go right. Basic defense. Can someone explain why it isnt actually easy ? What dont i understand ?

Perhaps we were playing him to the right side, hence he went to the left and is dominant either way? Super talented, but easy to dislike with his antics.

no. it’s clear he has no right hand. cliff didn’t shade one way or the other. basic stuff. Michigan clearly shaded Geo to the right, making him dribble left. Didnt work because Geo was hot tonight but it’s textbook.

But forcing Dickinson right seemed to be an obvious thing to do. Our coaches arent dumb. why didnt we ?

No explanation as to why Cliff fell for two fakes right, then Dickinson went left for slams.

Dickinson is a very good player, uses his size well, and has the ability to shoot from the outside making him a tough matchup. He is nowhere near as good as Garza though.

I think it’s because a few RU players lack defensive abilities. I believe Jones would be playing more of he was better on that side of the court.
Cliff needs to improve over there as well

Cliff keeps getting better on defense but can be exposed by a good low post player. Dickinson maximizes his physical abilities, has great footwork and feel for low post play. Cliff does better against big man that like to just use their athletically ability. Michigan should have better used that matchup to their advantage. Waited too long.

Our lack of big man depth also makes it hard for Cliff to get better because I'm sure nobody can challenge him in practice.

DAMN.. I said that so many times last night.. why can't the coaches talk to Cliff and get him to play Dickinson as a lefty? He was always shading right. I kinda "get it".. most of the bigs he plays will be right-handed... but.. damn!

I suppose Cliff cannot practice against anyone that size/ability.. nevermind a lefty.

Limiting Michigan second chance points was a focus according to Pike and Geo on the postgame last night. In particular Geo said that guards crashing the boards was something they spoke about in game plan and Geo was given a goal of getting 4 rebounds last night and he got.....4.

I'll give you this observation. Clear as day and don't quite understand not overplaying the left either. BUT, then one time we did it DICKinson went right between the two defenders using his elbows ala Garza to clear them with no foul called. So maybe its give him his and defend the rest.

They could put Palmquist (sp) on somebody's shoulder. He's a lefty. 😊

He had 5 total rebounds, not sure how that was divided between O and D, but suspect 2 is a reasonable guess for O
According to the Yahoo sports app, Dickinson had zero offensive rebounds one and five defensive. Diabate had one offensive and nine total. Dickinson got his points but Cliff kept him off the glass.

Dickenson obviously made Cliff look bad. Went by him easily several times & Dickenson wasn't even quick. Cliff need to sharpen up here.

Good post player in college cause of his size. Nice spin move, but can't run and not athletic enough for the league unless his jumper becomes automatic

I’d have to see what the spacing was on the floor at the time, but Cliff my have been told to force Dickinson to his left because that’s where the help would be. If the help was normally to the left then that would have forced Dickinson back to his right or he’d have to give up the ball.

Either way I think it was an excellent learning experience for Cliff. He’s a smart guy and he’ll not only figure out the best way to defend those moves, but he’ll develop a few of his own.

Liked the one sign in student section “Brickinson”
My daughter! LOL (Although my son told her to change it after he was making buckets :)
She did change it to "Stick to tik tok" as I guess one of their players is a big TT'er (I wouldn't know). She said he looked over and laughed

I said that all game basic defense deny him the left and force him into the middle with his right hand and also allows help; he just gave him the baseline and also the one play where he faked the pass and Cliff just completely turned his head

completely wrong he gave him the baseline his left like 4 times there is no way he was coached to do that and he had easy dunks or layups

Just a quick reminder that Dickinson is a really good college player, and a preseason All American. Yes, he got the best of Cliff a few times, and he will do the same to every big guy, including Cockburn. Cliff did fine. He battled on the boards, and more than that he managed to stay competitive for a full game without fouling out. I'm pleasantly surprised with his development on the defensive end.
