What I find funny is that NOBODY is talking about how DV called the game today. Everyone is discussing his "other comments." The reason for that is simple: He doesn't call the games! Someone nailed it earlier in the thread when they compared him to the obnoxious uncle.

He reminds me of my wife's obnoxious uncle who was a huge Joe Paterno fan. He knew little about how the game was played but he was in love with PSU. One time, during a game, he told me that he had written JoePa a letter offering to do recruiting for him! I had to leave the room to laugh.

Yeah it gets old quickly.

Maybe I'm off-base but does Dick spend his time when he covers other games saying over and over again that the team he's watching isn't as talented as the other teams that were the greatest in the school's history?

I don't remember it, but then I barely listen to Vitale anymore if I can help it.

I haven't seen one person compare this team to 2010, 2012 or 2015. Really only 2011, so I have no clue where Dick was coming from.

He sure doesn't yell and scream that Duke is pretty mediocre this year.

WTF? Did he actually say something like that on the air. I didn't listen so I have no idea what that even means.

Ha, he did. It was about giving praise.. He literally went off on anyone he could think of. His comments were annoying though. Clearly crapping on Kentucky..the. He'd never do that to Duke or UNC.

Vitale is a worn out douche

This. What ESPN should do is limit his work to Jimmy V Week (he does a great job with the V Foundation) and give him a five minute segment on SportsCenter each week during college basketball season. That way they could gradually get rid of him. Not that I'd care if they got rid of him tomorrow, but ESPN won't do it that way.

Not sure which one but one of the announcers was going off as we went to half about how we were barely leading an unranked team. As I am typing this, UNC is tied with an unranked team. I wonder if the announcers at that game are making a big deal about that?

And then he tells us all we aren't as talented as the 09-10,11-12,14-15 teams. Oh really, you think? I didn't need an entire segment on Dick telling us all what we already knew. Do you think he would spend the same amount of time telling Duke fans that on national television? That's why I can't stand listening to him at times. He's not completely unbiased. Not even close.

He really made sure we understood this...

The thing he forgot to add is that there is probably not a team in the country this year as talented as any of those teams.

It amazed me that he had memorized the UCONN free throw numbers, from the two games. It was like a UK fan pissed in his Wheaties this morning. He was trying to throw all this shade towards UK. Bringing up Duke, UNC, UCONN, and saying how spoiled weve been to have all this talent but this years team will never be close to the great teams.

I usually can just tone him out and appreciate his enthusiasm. Today he just seemed bitter. I don't know, he just seemed to really enjoy throwing in little barbs.

ESPN needs to occupy Dickie V with feeding the goats in Bristol and allow him to tell them how special they are.

"Shut Up!"

"SHUT UP!"

"SHUT UP!"

"S H U T U P !"

"SHUT........................................UP!"

I respect Dick Vitale and what he has done for college basketball, and for the many nice things he's said over the years about Kentucky. I respect his charitable work immensely. But, he put us wrongly into a certain category and made some ill-advised unflattering remarks about this young, developing team (then we went on to play great basketball and crush a tough opponent). He spoke prematurely, as do many in this world, and he should have withheld his vocal opinions, particularly those comparisons made of this team to other recent UK teams. One-third of the way into the season, it's just not fair to our kids. Hence, my response to him above.

Couldn't agree more, thought he sounded really stupid and stubborn when he reiterated his point when the game was well in hand. That was a solid win, had it been Duke playing ASU it would've been a whole different narrative. I know that kind of goes without saying. He becomes more and more irritating with every new basketball season. Today was ridiculous, everything is still clouded because of last season. 2 seasons ago we weren't as good as this team is at the same point in the season.

I like Vitale, he's entertaining, but that was a bit rude tonight. You don't tell your new girlfriend that she's nowhere near as cute as your last 3. Its obvious we're not as good as Walls team, Anthony Davis' team, or even mentioned in the same sentence as last years......but no need mention it 5 times and really drive it home.

Hey Dick, we get it. We're not ridiculously good this year. We do have cable these days.

I used to love Dick Vitale. I met him when I was young and it was like a huge deal. but man he has gotten so bad over the years. was a good coach and a good guy but has lost it with announcing. He helped out with a cancer charity at my old school though so I can't bag on him too much.

I was eating it up after he made the snide remarks at the end of the 1st half and then UK blitzed the Sun Devils throughout most of the 2nd half.

Vitale even had the gall to reiterate his point just after UK went up by 23!

What a douche bag.

Dick, you might want to wait until say mid Feb before you write a Coach Cal led UK team off you old Coach K sack rider.

Crome Dome is just butthurt because UK drilled his lovers Dookie's.

I think Vitale knows college basketball is down as a whole this yr and knows UK can win it without being great.

His comments seemed nervous and almost uncertain when he was making them; sort of talking himself into saying them as he spoke.

Down deep he is a UK hater and I truely believe he dislikes Cal as well.

it's easy to like somebody or something when it's the best. That is why I think Dick Vitale is the absolute biggest piece of trash on earth. What he said about the UK coaching position, administration, and fan base when Tubby was leaving was all I need to know about the guy. Compare that with what he has said about UNC academic scandal, Syracuse sex scandal, academic scandal, and Duke with Corey Magette, Lance Thomas, and their one and done culture. He clearly was never a UK guy like people seem to think. Kick me while I'm down and call me racist once that's enough for me. No second chances.

I agree completely bluemax.

Vitale went overboard with his comments today. Of course this team isn't as talented as last season. Who else is that good? Nobody.

But he made too much out of it and went on and on. Why? Who is he trying to convince? Himself? Seriously, he made the comment and should have left it at that.

This team is primarily just different from most Calipari teams. That's the main thing. There is much talent on this team, though. You can't deny that. If and when Labissiere comes around, this team could be exactly what he's saying they're not, which is a very special group.

Not that we need any extra motivation, but I hope our Cats take that as a challenge and prove him completely wrong.

"This team is a good team but it isn't the John Wall team, it isn't last years team. Don't get me wrong, they're good, but they're not 2012 or last years team. No one anywhere has said "this team is talented, they are going to be better than last years team or the John Wall team!" But anyone that thinks that about this team is wrong! I don't want to hear people saying to me that "you said this isn't a good team!" I'm picking them to win the SEC! I think they're a good team! I'm just saying they're not the John Wall team or 2012 or last years team like no one has been claiming. You see, last years team had..."

They need to shut up with the comparisons to the John Wall team, AD team, and last years team. If they are going to compare this team to another, compare it to the Brandon Knight led team that rather surprisingly made the final 4.

I fell off Vitale's boat when he openly encouraged Patrick Patternson to go elsewhere. That crossed the line.

Vitale has gotten too long on the tooth. He really should fade into retirement.

I will correct the record on one point. Many on this board touted this year's team as more talented than last years. There were various threads on the topic. The Harrison's were repeatedly trashed over it. Last year's team was uniquely gifted. I think everyone sees that now.

I just don't understand either. Knight and co. Had a rough season made a final four. Randle and co. Had a rough season and made it to the title game. Wall and co. Had a great regular season but lost in elite 8 We went undefeated last year and lost in final four. This team has lost once ....if they make it to conference play with one loss they are doing a damn good job n my book. Nobody this year is wold beaters. We get the inside game going we are just as good as anyone

Considering how much time and energy he spent talking about how NOT good this team is, I expect to hear a lot about how Duke, given the beating they took, must be horse crap this year.

No?

I am still confused as to why anyone would choose to listen to Dick Vitale and then piss and moan about what he says.

Well, here is a scenario: sometimes we have no choice. Maybe some have kids that are involved in activities, had to DVR it and watch later or maybe at a family function (it is Christmas time) and have to watch with everyone else.

So sometimes fans don't have a choice
