Simpkins shot 26% from 3 at Elon on 99 attempts. He shot 37% here (36% in league play) on 100 attempts. One “numbers don’t lie” guy might have said TJ is a sh*tty shooter who will struggle even more in the Big East. Another “numbers don’t lie” guy might have said his 82% free throw percentage suggests the shooting skill is there and the 3PT percentage will improve with better shot selection.

The numbers are the numbers, but understanding what they predict isn’t always easy.

Funny thing is most of the time (not always) kids who can make free throws at 80% or better also are better percentage 2 point and 3-point shooters. I think it makes sense from a hand and eye coordination standpoint.

Seemed like Simpkins 3 ball tailed off as the season went on. We really had only one three point threat last year and that was McCrea.
Simpkins’ final 6 games were a total crash out: 8/37 from the field (.216), 2/14 from 3 (.143).

Staton-McCray was streaky and he too struggled in BE play overall with just a 98 o-rating and .306 from 3.

You almost wonder if Simpkins was in contact with another school and knew he was on his way out.

In retrospect, I think it is pretty clear a number of our guards/wings looked better in the OOC than what they ultimately were because of the competition we faced, or lack thereof.
Could be but remember it was the worst big east in at least a decade
