He reminds me of a taller Quade. Hopefully he can adjust to the size of college quick bc it doesnt seem he gets great separation when attacking. His shot is pretty though.
He’s solid. Handles are good, nice jumper, passes well and seems to be a good decision maker. We don’t need him to be a scoring machine. We just need him to be solid: make the open jumper, drop dimes, run the offense and not turn the ball over.
Run the team like Teague did imo. Teague was probably a better athlete and maybe a little quicker but he didn't have to use it a lot. Just manage the team and run the offense.

Totally agree. I think Askew can be awesome....in time. I don't think he will be ready to lead a title contending team from the start. Especially given that they are going to get a late start to training, being on campus, etc...
Askew shoots the ball exactly like Travis Ford during the run to the final four. Gets it off and can shoot from deep. Bigger than Ford and stronger. Sees the floor and can deliver to the open man. A perfect point guard for this 2020/2021 version of the CATS.

We really don't need our PG to be elite with all the talent around him. Doesn't need to be a dead-eye, doesn't need super human speed. Doesn't need to be a superb defender.
Just facilitate the offense and don't turn the ball over a lot.. that's really it. The difference between a decent assist-to-TO ratio and a bad one could be 10-15 points by the final buzzer.

I like his shooting and mentality the most. Seems like he’s hungry to do what it takes.

He has a low and slow release. He isn’t overly athletic or quick. He pushes his shot. Probably get it thrown back at him a bit. I’m not so worried about the shot, as he should be open a lot with Clark and Boston on the floor. But that lack of speed could be an issue.
I once felt like SGA was too slow to play pg and couldn't get his shot off.

Looks like a Villanova-type guy who is a really solid high-impact PG who doesn't look flashy but is a big-time contributor to a top 10 team. Don't see why he can't be that type of player for UK. Especially if Clarke and Boston are as explosive as advertised. Having a better version of Quade Green who is a perimeter threat from the PG position sounds pretty good to me.
Agreed, he looks like a multi year guy who by the time he’s a junior could be a real stud and leader on a college court. Will we get there with him? I hope so.
Steph Curry and Trae Young both have low release points that are closer to a push shot than over the head jump shot. It was a “knock” on Curry out of college and he’s done a lot for a shift in how shot mechanics are viewed. Maxey had a low release push shot as well and had very few shots blocked being a much larger focal point of the offense than Askew will he asked to be.
Askew’s release time is good. If he had a slow developing push shot from a low point I’d be more concerned. Plus, he will primarily be shooting open shots when the ball rotates back and not pulling up in defenders faces.
I don't see him staying more than 2 years. I think he is coming in here with the expectation that he can be a 1 and done if things go better than expected, or he can come back for his sophomore year and be the man, then go pro. Reminds me of Hagans of Briscoe in that regard.
I really like him as a floor general, the main issue I’ve seen is his defense. Ive watched several complete games of his and his defense has not been good at all. I think Cal will give Minx the majority of minutes at point because of that alone. When it’s crunch time I just don’t see him in the game, we have scorers, we will need someone steady and reliable on the defensive side. JMHO

Hes going to be our poor mans version of Trae Young at the point, and when I say poor I mean homeless. He will be a hell of a lot better than Quade tho
Askew has that killer instinct we have been lacking. We haven't had many 'dawgs', no one opposing teams would fear. Think Ware, Askew, Clarke, and Jackson have that "I hate to lose more than I love to win" attitude.
