I want a video of his mistakes.

I hate these mix tapes
He showed plenty of his miscues, bad shots. I thought it was a solid breakdown of the young man.
Should be a very good multi year player IF he is open. Based on what I saw, no chance he plays at the next level unless he somehow gets a hell of a lot quicker and more explosive. Could be a very good 4 year player however, pipe dream

I just don’t think we do much this season with Askew as our primary PG. I also question whether Mintz is the answer. He seems to be more of a backup.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if Cal puts the ball in Clarke’s hands and lets him run the show. Might keep Askew in the starting lineup as a spot up shooter, though. He will probably be our best shooter. Clarke, Boston, and Brooks are all but locks to start, IMHO. The other two spots are up in the air.

I really think here's a chance that Askew could be one of the better "fit" point guards for Cal. Obviously you want Fox or Wall or Knight if you have to build a team from the start.

..but if you already have all-stars all around you, Askew might be the guy you want running the team.

I expect him here at least two years because he was really thinking about staying for his senior year in hs before reclassifying. Doesn’t seem to be in a hurry. Would love to see him stay 3. A big part of that VIllanova run was keeping the very steady Brunson there at PG for three years.

His game reminds me of a young, undeveloped Ulis. Nice stroke from outside, shifty, great passer with IQ, great defense. Just needs Cal to get all the other kinks worked out! I’m excited about this young prospect!

The one thing I hope is true about this break down, is that he is a pass first pg. Developing a drive and making 3s is a plus of course. If the kid is solid with the dribble and decision making then i see him as a big plus and improvement Hagan's. Once he hits the weight room and gets some conditioning I see him improving dribble drive, if he dedicates himself. A defensive, sure hand point gaurd would be a major plus.

Just a thought that popped up. Could you imagine if Rajon Rondo was on last years team. A rondo under Calipari rather than tubby. Not here to knock tubby but even back then I knew he was never utilized well by tubby and would be a great pg in the NBA. He never had the best shot outside of 15 ft and his 3s were suspect but man was a driver and finisher. Handles and great passer. That's the kind of pg Cal needs for these young teams.

Mintz has been a starter on very good teams in the big east and would have started this past year had he not been injured

Already seeing the “He should be a multi year player” comments.

Unless:

1. He averages 10 and 5 (NBA)
2. He doesn’t quite get it his first season and knows more talented guards are on the way in the next freshmen class (transfer)

He looks like a taller Tyler Ulis to me with the same strengths and weaknesses Tyler possessed coming in. People were complaining about Tyler's height and that he was not uber-athletic and won't be able to finish at the rim and big guards will be able to post him up...yada, yada, yada...

The tape on Devin shows that he has great passing ability and is a really good shooter. We need the first ability over the second with the group we have coming in. Devin will keep the defenses honest which will open up the middle for our athletic wings to operate. With him and Boston on the court, we will not see any zones against us.

After watching that video:

We know he has great vision, high basketball IQ, very good shooter, and passer. He seems like he is a player that sees a play in his head before it happens, just has a knack knowing where players will be before it happens.

We can not tell if his speed will be an issue or not. And we can not tell if he is turn over prone or not.

To me it seems he has a lot of potential to be a very solid PG and someone who we will be very glad to have running our offense.

Reminds me of Derrick Jasper but with a better shot.
I like this comparison. I was going to say he reminded me of Shai Alexander. Shai wasn’t a very quick pg, but he was able to get to his spots and set others up. He was also able to defend well. Askew fits that description, plus, he can shoot.

I really like how he is a pass first guy. I hate it when our guards drive the ball into the trees and never look to dish the ball. This kid will dish the ball to the open man.

He should be fun to watch, especially if he can consistently hit mid range shots, if he does that, he will find open passing lanes and easy lobs for Brookes and whoever else is at the rim.

I really like Askew as a long term guy. I just don't think he will be ready (especially with the shortened ramp up time) to be the starting PG on a title contending team next season. He is easily (IMO) the most raw, not ready PG that Cal has brought in to UK.

Well simply having two guys like Clarke and Boston should help playmaking no matter actual positions.

I think he’s a great fit for this season as his primary goal will be getting the ball to other players, not going and scoring on his own. Maybe not what we are used to in a Kentucky point guard but I good fit with Clarke and Boston. Also like having Mintz to help take the pressure off of him.

Tyler was quick. Askew is not. Tyler was rarely off-balance when he drove the lane even with his small stature. Askew does not. Other than being pass first PG's, I see nothing else in common with them.

Best pg we have had since Ulis in terms of being a real pg and shooting . The guy above me is correct Ulis and Askew's game are nothing alike EXCEPT THE MOST IMPORTANT thing which is floor vision. Askew might have the best vision of any Cal pg ever. He shoots better then Ulis but isn't a supreme athlete ( neither was ulis though Ulis did have a great first step). We have't had anyone like him really . SGA might be the closest but he is very different from him too.

Well he has time to improve and grow, never liked being negative this early because what good is it? When the team roster is done and they are practicing I would bet the brighter lights will shine so that the staff will be able to see who is a dog and who ain't.

I agree with those saying he has a bit of Ulis in his game, but to me he looks like a slightly smaller Andrew Harrison.

That may be an unpopular comparison since I know the fan base is very split when it comes to the twins, but I would be very happy if Askew gave us the production that freshman Andrew Harrison did.

Wow. That was a very informative and honest video. I think if Devon plays within himself and doesn’t try to do too much, he’ll be a really solid point guard. Hopefully for a couple years.

I hope he is ready. Would be nice to have an experienced PG.

But the last time we had a transfer PG, he was a starter at another P5 program and he lasted barely one season and it ended in the NIT.

Yeah so if Askew's dad gets deathly sick and Devin has a mental health crisis and Clarke or Boston tear their ACL we could be in some trouble.
