"Logical conclusion"? I suppose that is as logical as it gets on Rafters.

How is that not a logical conclusion. Alone next to a car passed out on the ground. You have a more plausible explanation?

Wait, now I am reading that there was someone else with him? I thought he was alone. If that's the case, that does change things. But if he was driving drunk, that's messed up no matter if he is charged or not.

It's terrible. There's no doubt he was driving. He's lucky to be alive. I'm shocked he wasn't charged with DUI also.
I watched - OMG
the way he was laying beside the car - I have to agree that he must have been driving.
Just plain stupid - no excuses, and not just some funny, excusable, college age thing. He was behind the wheel, and THAT drunk - someone could have died, him, his girlfriend - someone else.

Why in the hell does everyone talk trash about the cop here? I'm so sick of this crap. The cop did his job. I know if it were me I would have done the same. He probably called an ambulance crew to check him out and Derek refused medical treatment. What's the cop gonna do, leave him passed out in the street?

As far as the cop writing things to make his report sound good. You are an idiot. You have to write the offense to mirror as the statute is written. Otherwise you have no reason to arrest anyone and it will be thrown out.

Derek could have been arrested for DUI. And if he were anyone else other than a UK basketball player he prolly would have been.

So the ones of you blaming the cop should prolly let that one go. Yes it was a mistake. No it's not the end of the world. Yes cal will make him pay for it.

I think that covers every discussion in here.

Lol, so I'm an idiot for saying that cops know what to write to make the report look good?

Then you say they have to write the report to mirror the statue?

You were agreeing with me, and calling me an idiot.

Cops write up the report to justify the arrest they are making.

I don't really want to get into it, so I'll just say that most of the time they are truthful, but sometimes they stretch the truth. When they stretch the truth, they know what to say to justify their actions.

If you think that never happens, then maybe there are two idiots here.

Yeah, that was pretty grim. Before seeing the tape I thought we were talking recreational drunk. That's full bore linear hammered, that was. That only happens to a rookie or after much repetition and a rookie couldn't have gotten the key in the ignition.

He is not going to get kicked off the team. Cal has a history of giving guys second chances and this isn't as bad as it could have been. I can see a multiple game suspension, but not kicked off.

Echoed this from a another of my posts in the other thread:

"No context to determine from the video except what you see. Did he pass out getting in or getting out of the car? Was this a residential neighborhood or the highway? Did the car show signs of being on recently? It is just raw vid with no supporting background."

It is like: watch this vid and tell me what you see". It is all in what your mind perceives. No conclusive anything. It wasn't good either way. No proof he was driving. He may have been but no proof shown in the vid.

Guaranteed first question out of Cal's mouth will be, "Derek were you driving"?

I think Willis will answer honestly. (Just me but I think Willis passed out trying to get into the car which was all bad.)

I think he will be forthright as well - Cal will judge fairly, taking his demeanor going forward into consideration.

If he says and does the right things, he'll be disciplined but certainly not ostracized.

Cal will ask him no questions. He will simply instruct him to tell him what happened and warn him for all time not to lie or he will know it. Cal will listen to him and no matter what he says Cal will tell him how badly he eff'd up and that he will suffer consequences and he will be letting him know what those consequences are soon. There will be talk about how badly he has let himself down, his team, the university, etc. need for counseling and much being pissed off. Likely he will not be allowed to rejoin the team until semester break or possibly be suspended for season. Very bad situation.

He was with the team signing autographs for the camp kids at the Commons around 2pm the next day. Funny thing was I hadn't heard the news yet at that point and wondered to myself why he looked so tired and figured he probably just had a rough night.
