As I said in other threads I don't think it is either the scheme or the talent. He's just unable to develop and motivate the players to play consistently. They keep losing because they commit stupid mistakes.
Not the talent.

Not the talent.
that's what it the terrible thing about all this, we have talent. it's just that talent depends on martinez's arm (throwing and holding onto the ball) in frost's offense. we hit them open wide receivers and it's game on...then the running game opens up cause they can't load the box, and our defense ain't playing on it heels the whole game, put in constant bad situations..

now fielding the ball at the one and going into the endzone...that there was a case of unrealistic over exuberance. that should be able to be corrected watching it a few times in a crowded film room.

but we have decent players, that's not the hold up

Go after another B1G coordinator from Wisconsin or Iowa or Northwestern.
no coordinators.
The Coastal Carolina head coach would be a smart hire. For anyone that may not remember, and I had to do this, go back and watch some highlights from last season to see what offense he runs and there are a lot of option concepts in his offense and it's clear identity.

that could do very well at Nebraska. And we have the body types of offense to run that offense too.

He would need to change the QB room is basically it.
S

Chris Klieman - HC Kansas State

Justin Fuente - HC Virginia Tech

Jason Candle - HC Toledo

Billy Napier - HC Lousiana. 3 seasons as a head caoch with 3 winning seasons. 1 conference championship

Gus Malzahn - former Auburn HC. At UCF.

Lance Leipold - HC Kansas. Won at some D3 school for national titles and won at Buffalo. If he has Kansas playing better immediatly after a few months on that job he would be my number 1 choice. Was an assistant coach at Nebraska for a couple of years under Solich.

Hugh Freeze - HC Liberty. Won at Ole Miss and winning at Liberty.

Jeff Monken - HC Army (great OL fundamentals and rushing)

Ken Niumatalolo - HC Navy (almost left last season or the year before...don't remember when that was)

Matt Campbell--HC Iowa State (Big 12 may not be a P5 conference anymore, hurting chances to win a national title)

Jeff Hafley--HC Boston College (always has his team play good fundamentals and runs the ball )

Sean Lewis--HC Kent State (young name that will become popular)

Brian Johnson--OC Florida

Jamey Chadwell--HC Coastal Carolina (run focused)

Other names?
Campbell, Kiffen (wasn't his dad a coach at UNL?) or Fickle, period. No coordinators or young rising stars
from conferences very different from the BIG.

Maybe not, but you kick the tires if you think he's the right guy. Not buying the he wouldn't come here. He's not winning any titles at Indiana.

He has been at IU fewer years than Matt Campbell has been at Iowa State.

It takes time at IU and ISU.

Patience is needed at Nebraska, but one has to make a good hire.

Tom Osborne was a great hire, but it took him time to win in the Big Eight, if I recall, considering how long it took to beat OU and how conference titles are won today.

I read Billy turned down 3 SEC jobs. He would have control over his staff at Nebraska.

I'm sure Billy ideally would prefer an SEC job. Still gotta ask though and have him on the list.

Chadwell's baggage isn't that bad.

Freeze, there wouldn't be a better hire out there besides the well known big names. There is no way Freeze stays at Liberty past this season and I suspect he will never be allowed back into the SEC. So Nebraska could strike here and hire a damn good coach.

We will see how things go.

Billy could very well have turned UT down too, not sure about that one. But Auburn wanted to keep a couple of assistants for recruiting, So Carolina he thought was just too big a project.

You could be right on Freeze, but they gave him a chance when no one else would.

Chadwell wasn't SMU bad, but he has a history, like Freeze of trying to get around the rules. If Nebraska goes the route of Tennessee did to get rid of Pruitt, how can they hire a guy with violations in his recent history?

This thread is a pretty good discussion. I just wonder if Trev is anywhere close to seriously contemplating cutting Frost's bag?

Yeah, Trev will probably just let the season play out and do the work behind the scenes. I want Frost fired yesterday since there is no point in keeping him around, but what is more important is having the coaching search going.

I’m sure he will let the season play out and at the same time be seriously looking for the next head coach which wouldn’t surprise me if he is already doing it now..

I'm going to make a list of former college head coaches in the NFL in its own category in my original list.

Hugh Freeze should be the far and away top target to replace Scott Frost. He is the most proven head coach with P5 level experience that is available.

Top 2 targets, IMO, should be: Gus Malzahn and Hugh Freeze

Second-tier targets: Army head coach, Lousiana head coach, Coastal Carolina head coach, Iowa State head coach
I hate both of these options. SEC scum.

Chris Klieman has the 8th highest winning percentage among all active D1 head coaches. Trev Alberts may need to take a seriously hard look at him. While he doesn't run the option, he still uses an aggressive, physical downhill rushing attack that would fit Nebraska.

Bill doesn't run a system that would work well at Nebraska. Taht would just continue the path of trying something that has failed since Solich.

Why would it work at Penn State and not Nebraska? Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa all run power pro set type offenses. The days of AAC/Sun Belt gimmick coaches are done for me. I want a solid HC proven winner at P4 level.

Almost think that’s how Frost viewed this job. Thought he could cruise and being a hometown guy have no expectations.
I think that like a lot of us we know the west is horrible and that it should be 5 easy division wins each season, then snag 1-2 on the cross over games and 2-0 or 3-0 in the non conference and bam, you are at 9/10 wins a year.

This division is set up for NU to be how they were under Bo.

I'm not saying it won't work, but do we want to go back to WCO. I want whatever we can recruit well to NU.
