Reminds me of the business world: company loses money, execs all get bonuses. NU has a losing record, coaches get big raises.

I wonder about Beckton. With the RC title being given to Held, that means he is only coaching TE, a lot lighter load than all the other assistants.

I don't think it's a secret that Beckton would like to get back down south. He had never lived outside of Florida in his entire life before coming here.

Perhaps Frost is telling Snyder that there is an opportunity he could become a full-time Special Teams coach if Beckton moves on. A lot of teams teams don't have a full-time Tight Ends coach. Many teams have the Special Teams coach also coach tight ends, or the O.C. handle TEs.

It’s tough but if we’re not paying Held and Fisher, they will look elsewhere. LSU and Clemson has a hell of a staff and that’s due to their commitment to shell out the dough.

You have to pay the guys who are producing. When SEC teams are trying to hire your guys that should tell you that the record hasn't diminished how they're viewed by their peers. It's only Husker fans who have much doubt that NU is going to start climbing. I was listening to a national radio show the other day and when a national analyst was asked which historically successful program (think the options were Miami, FSU, Tenn etc) would be the first to return to prominence his answer was immediately Nebraska and it was because of Frost and his staff.

There were several very good reasons for Dawson to go back to the east coast. He is VERY qualified to be our special teams coordinator and OLB coach. Valuable guy with tons of experience. No doubt he knew last year that he was going to try to go back so wasn't as involved with recruiting as he would have been otherwise. Hopefully he's here now for a while.

I hope so. I thought he did a good job of developing the DL over the course of the 2018 season. Those last 6 games the nastiness notch got turned up IMO. I think he will bring that same feel to the OLB and pass rushers. Development there is one of the biggest needs across the board, especially since we run a 3-4.

We know what Jojo Domann can do, but I'm excited to see how he develops guys like Caleb Tannor, Garrett Nelson, Mauga-Clements, Blaise Gunnerson, Jimari Butler, Jamin Graham and Keyshawn Greene. I think we will see improvement from a bunch of them.

Look for Bill Snyder’s kid to be in the mix as special team analyst. Down to Nebraska and Texas from what I am understanding.

Is this the same Snyder kid that Bill wanted to take over for him at K State?

Happy with Dawson. Familiar face for the staff and knows a lot of the players on the team. OLB is a mess right now though so he has his work cut out for him. Don't think there's any "guaranteed" starter there.

St needs to be a good hire. Its one of the 3 phases of the game for football, and if you lose ST It sets your team back. Hopefully the Snyder rumors are true. We'll see

My question on the pay thing is, how much was he getting there? One year here at reduced wages plus one year at the giants at a higher wage evens out, doesnt it?

I’m ok with Dawson being back but can someone please point me to a unit he coached that I should be impressed with?
c'mon man. I would say that UCF's D line was pretty damned good. When I google "New York Giants special teams" the first story that comes up from "empiresportsmedia.com" is titled, "Special Teams A Bright Spot In Poor 2019". Seems he did okay in that position.

Dawson coaching: Giants OLBs, NU and UCF DLs, Iggles DL (asst.), BC STs, New Hamp LBs OL and DC. 20 years of experience as a coach. He's a Chip Kelly guy who took a shine to Frost.

Ok Special Teams were a bright spot for NYG in 2019. That’s probably why Thomas McGaughey their SP Teams cord wasn’t fired. Mike Dawson coached their OLB. I’m super confused why Dawson and their improvement on SP Teams are related

He also assisted with their Special teams.

Dawson's salary goes way up after this season:

I'm sure there's some explanation but seems weird to me that his salary fluctuates so much in such a short timeframe.

It must be tied to severance pay from the NFL job. Guess it's somewhat similar to how we were paying for Riley while he took a much reduced salary for a while at his new job.

Who really cares what he makes? There's no limit on what we're allowed to pay coaches and NU has the money.

Everyone on here fussing over raises and salaries. The money is there. Can they coach or not?

Not a matter of if there's enough money or not. Of course there is, that's a given by now. The curiosity stems more from how valued he appears to be by Frost/NU and if there's some message that can be gleaned from the salary structure as to the standing of the coaches. Not much else to talk about in the off season.

I don't really care either, it's not my money, but it's interesting to me why the outside linebackers coach here makes as much as they do compared to other positions. Dewitt was the 2nd-highest paid position coach after Austin, making a lot more than Fisher and Held before their recent raises. I guess because he coached specials teams too? But when Dawson's raise kicks in, he'll be the highest-paid position coach and won't have any other duties.

No kidding!

I say play money ball and throw the debit card at the best coaches by position group there are on any team. Any team!

Time to push the green nuclear launch button if this next season goes to crap.
