I'm glad he is sticking to his guns. He is a leader. I agree with what he said. These players act like they have no other venue than the national anthem to bring awareness to their cause. When they get to their locker room all they have to say is "I got something to say" and they would have hundreds of recording/taping devices stuck in their face and it would be broadcast non-stop on not just ESPN but all national media.

Kap did this for one reason. It was a slap in the face to our country. It was never about any other cause other than an "anti-america" cause. Luckily for him, he had many sheep that wanted to follow him.

Picking the one time that we are supposed to be united in honoring the country while at the game to do your "protest" is just very shortsighted. And I'm glad they are able to use that time to fight against the masses of people that are PRO-social injustice.***

It’s really hard for me to fathom that we live in a time when someone who refuses to run with the mob or show disrespect towards our flag, country, and soldiers is the one getting called out.

No matter what side you’re on with this issue, a person who demonstrates that he can think for himself does not deserve ridicule

Just another example of how the first amendment only matters if it agrees with others
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Please explain to me how the 1st amendment has anything to do with Dak Prescott, a private citizen, who plays for the Dallas Cowboys, a private entity, being scrutinized by the public.

If anything, Trump using his platform to call the less than 5% of players who DO protest (of note, they're not protesting the anthem, but calling out the fact that police brutality doesn't align with America's core values) 'sons of bitches' is actually a violation of the 1st amendment. We all have the right to protest, and both sides of the political spectrum need to learn to respect that again.

That's what's lost in all of this. It has NOTHING to do with the first amendment. No one has threatened anyone's first amendment rights. When you're in the the workplace, you either tote the company's mission statement or you find another place to work. When you're off company time, you are protected by the 1st amendment.

I'm not sure why people don't understand how this works, unless they have another agenda, which would be to say anything to get people to join your side.

First Amendment says nothing about employers having a code of conduct for their employees while on the job. If my employer says we're going to stand for the national anthem (or recite a prayer to Satan, or anything else), I've got three choices, do it, or accept whatever punishment they give, or quit.

Can't be true, I read on here that there was no backlash and it was just made up fake outrage.

I know it's Monday morning, but surely you are woke enough to know that the President stating his opinion on twitter is not related to congress passing a law to interfere with a private citizens first amendment rights. Surely you are not getting these confused correct?

I don't think its supposed to look like Dak so much as a mashup of Dak and Daniel Kaluuya (??) from the Get Out poster. From that perspective, I wouldn't say he nailed it, but it isn't bad.

Again...Kap only took a knee after meeting with a former Marine who suggested kneeling rather than sitting. https://www.military.com/undertheradar/2016/09/kaepernick-meets-veteran-nate-boyer-kneels-anthem

It wasn't anti-America he was listening to a service member's advice.

Yeah and before that he was sitting, so he tried to walk it back a bit by kneeling. Too late, people already noticed he was protesting the anthem because he "didn't want to show pride in a flag for a country that oppressed black people". Again, the original intent was NOT to try and cause action to help, it was a blatant intent to disrespect the flag.

You have other choices. An employer can pretty much insist on the conduct, but if you don't agree with it you could publicly disclose the demands and try to bring pressure on your employer to change the policies. Sort of depends on how badly you want to fight the policy, and how valuable an employee you are (you would almost certainly be fired for protesting against your own employer). Probably easier just to seek out a new job.

It's actually pretty close to the line. The First Amendment has been expanded beyond "Congress shall make no law..." to restricting any government action that suppress First Amendment Rights. Trump's tweets are probably allowed, but if he took any government action against the NFL or its players based on the National Anthem, that probably would violate the First Amendment. Further, if he met with the NFL owners and pressured them in any way, or if he encouraged conservative groups to protest the NFL, he would probably be violating the First Amendment. So, the President stating that the protesters are "sons of bitches" and that he would never allow that type of conduct walks pretty close to the line.

Didn't even read the article did you?

I sure did. But I'm more interested in his very first comments when asked about sitting during the anthem as opposed to his planned walked back comments after he was challenged. People always talk about the "original reason for the protest" yet they ignore his original action (sitting) and his original comments when asked about it ("didn't want to show pride in a flag" for America). Kaepernick was intentially not showing respect for the flag. People can try and change it all they want, but that's how it started.

1- i dont get the mural reference...looks like i would need to watch something to understand why he is crying. I could do that or i could just forget about it and move on in life. Probably the latter.

2- the kneeling issue was annoying to hear about when it started and its full blown Fran the Nanny annoying now. Its as annoying as Janice from Friends. Kneeling doesnt bring attention to any issue that isnt already well documented. It doesnt change anything. It doesnt start a productive conversation. Its just an annoying distraction.

3- Prescott is correct in saying if someone wants a podium to say something, there will be plenty of opportunity after a game in the locker room for a captive audience to hear everything.

The potus disrespects our flag, country, white house, history and every American past and present every single day he's in office right now. Y'all don't care about that. Only care about getting willingly agitated before football games.

Nice straw man. Good thing we're allowed to not like a lot of what Trump does and not like the anthem protests.

Meanwhile in Chicago this weekend......

The weekend bloodbath that left 70 people shot and 11 people dead has become political shrapnel in the heated race for mayor of Chicago.
Fired Chicago Police Superintendent was the first to attack Mayor Rahm Emanuel, citing a six-hour period that left five people dead and more than 30 others shot, most of them teenagers.

1. Get out is phenomenal.

2. If you’re tired of hearing about the issue, vote against Trump or encourage Jerry to sell the Cowboys, they’re the ones pushing it.

3. Jerry put Dak in this position. He put a young quarterback in this position by making it all about Jerry’s politics and pushing Dak (and Zeke) to say exactly the same thing he is.

The fact that we're citing a mural from some no-name artist who doesn't even have a Wikipedia page as the "backlash" suggests that there is very little backlash.

Dak has always been on that side of the argument, so I doubt it's just Jerry's opinion.

I do think Trump, the media, and everyone whining about it just keeps the wheel turning.

Sports is the one thing that brings us all together, no matter race, religion, or politics. It really takes our mind off real world issues and brings peace. Dak said it best.
