This was before they were ahead and a comment made about the appearance of apathy. Also it is 3rd hand "cigar boy" talk on the Internet so it must be true.

Mullen is gone after this year and knows it. Big time coach is already lined up.

I don't buy it but it made an otherwise crappy time at a game a little more interesting.

I couldn't conjur up any hypothetical that made that statement make sense either. Sounds like wishful thinking and that they think they have the power to both oust Dan and get the guy of their dreams. Maybe they do. Maybe they have delusions of grandeur.

If this was the case, go ahead a fire him and let an assistant try to prove himself at HC. The assistant would see this as setting himself up for future HC job.

There are going to be a bunch of SEC teams fighting over Art Briles -- I know that much. Be interesting to see who pulls the trigger first and throws 6-7 million at him(no, I'm pretty sure that will not be us)

It's also unethical. Remeber Auburn trying to do that to Tubberville? It's 0% of that being true.

Makes no sense. It might be possible that the 'cigar boys' have been told that xxx coach would be interested when/if Mullen leaves. But that is about all I could believe.

I do think it's possible that money guys with access to Dan may be distancing themselves from him and thus sending a message. I'm not a money guy so I have no idea the level of access or if such actions could "tell" a coach without actually telling him.

Only 'cigar boys' or people I want involved with a coaching hire are the ones who brought us Ben Howland. Last thing we need is a Hugh Freeze or Sly Croom knock off

So.... I'll add to this. This is the first I've heard of having a head coach lined up.

But Mullen leaving wouldn't be a huge surprise. I'm pretty confident that Mullen didn't get his annual extension after last season. And there is a very good reason behind that.

So Call Cigar Boys aren't what they use to be.

Times have changed with all the money we get from other resources now.

I'll say this much, IF Stricklin gives Mullen an extension then he better wear a protective cup to every sporting event because I'm sure there are tons of people who will kick him square in the nutt sack.

Mullens days are numbered at MSU and rightfully so, there's NO excuse for the crap he did yesterday.

It is my understanding that Dan Mullen is just now on year two of a four year deal. There's no real reason to extend a contract that is locked in for three more seasons, is there? I wouldn't read all that much into the lack of an automatic extension.

Besides, from outward appearances, Mullen doesn't necessarily want to be here for more than 2 additional years. Perhaps the athletic director wants a large buyout clause if Dan breaks the contract in exchange for an extension and Dan says no thank you.

I could be wrong but I think that was from the 2014 season and he just signed it in 2015

A coach's contract is typically extended by 1 year each year. To maintain the maximum 4 years allowed on a contract by mississppi law. If a contract is not renewed on an annual basis to maintain the 4 years max allowed, that fact is used against a team in recruiting. ie. "You don't want to sign with them. Their coach is on the way out"

That GD smirk at the end of the game is what did me in!!!
Do you think Saban, Harbaugh, Meyer, Chip Kelly, or Belichick would smirk after a missed FG to lose a game to a lesser opponent?
We should have never even had to be in that position but we had a chance to steal it and 17'ed it up.
I would have the whole team running bleachers until they passed out today

The only "big name" we could plausibly get is Art Briles, which would be a very controversial hire.

He would need to admit his wrongdoing at Baylor before we even considered it (he still denies he did anything wrong) and do something to make amends - maybe a 5,000,000 donation to a charity that helps rape victims or something. Even then, I'm not sure if we could get away with it.

I think Art Briles ends up taking an OC position somewhere in Texas to rehab his image quietly. I just can't wrap my head around anyone hiring him at a big time school as head coach in the current environment.

Man I dunno. That is an awful lot of heat to bring on a program that is already under a lot of clouds, but if anyone is capable of pulling the trigger on a hire that distasteful, it's probably Auburn. On a related note, I think Herman might be the head coach at LSU next year, and that's bad bad news.

Correct.

In this day and time there are very few supporters in college athletics that have actual stroke.

Phil Knight, Boone Pickens, Red McCombs being three.

None exist at MSU. Maybe some Stricklin calls to bounce ideas off. But in annual ongoing giving (not one time donations) we don't have anyone that gives 1/7 of 1% of our budget.

What is hurting our recruiting is the fact that at the conclusion of every football season, Mullen is floating his name out there for every job opening in college football. Mullen has become unhappy at MSU, and it shows in his lack of enthusiasm, his lack of recruiting, and in his lack of game preparation. I think Mullen has overall done a good job at MSU, but I don't like having a coach here that seems so badly to be wanting to be somewhere else.

That smirk he did was one of embarrassment & reality. Done it myself a few times after something you know was coming that was bad & it finally actually happens. I think we all might have had a moment like this.. Who knows?

Mullen is here & going no where unless he does it himself. He has won too much & done too much for the program under his reign. Personally he has earned a bad year, because it will never be this good again via our history. Had the best QB in our modern history & still get skull dragged by Bama sigh.

Now it is obvious though he has checked out. I only say this because you can't go around after every season & go interviewing for other jobs. It's disrespectful & puts things in motion for an early exit.

Other than that, if he could find a way to stay in the top 15 in recruiting every year. We wouldn't take silly losses like Satirday & go bowling every year. Mullen could stay here until he gets too old, but do not see that happening at all.

It is just very frustrating that the excitement of the season is gone for me. But hey saving some money, Thanks Dan!

The male cheerleader from Jackson Prep makes no decision... He is told what to do. He is a damn joke... adding silver to the MState logo on the west side looks like sh-t! we waste more money on a marketing firm in Nashville that just throws out ideas and he does everything they suggest... I don't mind the Silver pants from last year... but adding it to the M State logo is ridiculous...

the inner circle of Keenum is making all the moves here regarding coaching... they did the move on basketball and will do it here...

Good post. Just a note: Dr. Keenum is on record as stating that Mullen will be here as long as he wants to be..fact
