I'm always skeptical when someone tells me a "ton" of guys do something "frequently". Did you want to re-check Blake's stats and edit your post? Because he was 30% from 3 in college (already 9% better than Banton) and improved to 33% in the NBA. Let's agree that a 3% improvement isn't drastic.

Edit: I sound like a dick and I'm not trying to be. Obviously Banton has a very small sample size and I hope he is a lot better shooter than what we've seen. Would love to see him in the NBA.
He literally shot 10 threes in college 😂

Look at his first 3-4 years in the NBA compared to the years since then. He drastically improved because he knew his athleticism wouldn’t last forever.

It really does happen frequently. A lot of players realize it’s their only ticket to stay on a roster.

You make good points and I'm definitely wrong because I didn't notice he only shot 10 threes in college. So point taken. I think there's a contrast between a guy like Blake who knew when he wasn't a shooter vs guys that take a lot of attempts and have a low percentage. It's part of basketball in this day and age that everyone seems to think they're Steph Curry.

Yeah. I’m not claiming Banton will be a lottery pick. But he has a good looking stroke. I’m guessing he hasn’t spent a ton of time developing it since he’s probably always been able to have his way driving to the basket against his competition. His skillset at his height is intriguing and I think teams will think they can get his shot to a respectable percentage.

If he can show up in our big games this year with lines likes 15-8-7 I believe he’d be drafted somewhere.

"IF" Banton finds a 3 point stroke this year, we may have ourselves a lottery pick on our team. He is a guy that can get a triple double on a regular basis. The best part is the other teams know they need to make him the focus and that is when McGowens and Allen can take the advantage. Banton is a nightmare for other coaches whether you want to admit it or not.

Bold statements in here, someone is drinking the Kool-Aid. Pretty early in the season to be declaring this. Let's see how he does in the B1G....

Creighton has not impressed me. They aren't as athletic as they've been in the past don't see an NBA guy on the roster and McDermott has seemingly forgotten how to coach defense since they joined the BE.
dumb...end.

They dont pass the eye test. Your Jayhawks arent impressive either to be honest. I dont see either making the sweet 16.
Kansas always seems to step up their game when conference play starts. I like Creighton but I'm definitely not sold on them as a top 10 team. Jays will need to get some quality minutes from their bench as the season goes on and Ballock needs to start making some shots.

Creighton may beat us, but it will not be a blowout like people think this year. This team is more athletic then our 2018 team, and I didn't that would be possible.
I’m very bullish on this Husker team. I just don’t think we step up to the challenge in our first game against a veteran, well-coached Top 10 team. Don’t mistake my praise for them as fanhood... I hate Creighton.

But I don’t think we’re ready to win this game. Maybe by season’s end we would be. I think we’ll be consistently down by 8-12 points throughout the game.

It is great that the Mayor is doing great things at Nebraska, but if people think we are going to roll Creighton good luck on that!

Ok. You may be right but it's always nice to be in the conversation rather than not. I am pleased with where we are right now with losing two NBAers and All-American types and still having an arguably top 5 team is a good problem to have. Don't judge a Self team 4 games into the season or any team for that matter. Long road ahead.

Good take.. In my honest opinion, Creighton will need to shore up their interior defense. The development of Kalkbrenner could be huge. Mac is a damn good coach.

Banton is already the same age Roby was when he got drafted in the second round. If he has a good season this year, he could get on some NBA teams' radar screens. Follow that up with a solid junior season and I could see him getting drafted, but his chances of being a lottery pick are tiny.

Like I said, I really like Banton and I'm glad he's a Husker. But if pegging him a potential lottery pick is the fandom test, I'll proudly fail it.
Right now he is not a lottery pick. If he starts making 2 out of every 5 three's he takes. Then continues to get his layups, assists, rebounds, steals and blocks.

You can not tell me he does not increase his draft stock to minimum 1st rounder. You see guys with his size and skill set VERY rarely, and it is definitely a NBA skillset.

This all depends on that shot though

I'm not that impressed with Kalkbrenner for the present but see him being a big piece the next couple years. He looked pretty helpless against McCormack. Admittedly I didn't watch the entire game but most of the first half.

Jays basically went with their starting five in the 2h. Their defense wasn't the problem. Dont think McCormack scored.

This is an honest question, and don't think I'm trying to be a butt head. Do you understand the game of basketball? I honestly think you don't get it.

Basketball is about mismatches, and that doesn't only mean "If the other team has a 7 footer we can't win. Do you realize most "Bigs" account for less than 10% of the scoring on most teams. Mismatches come in all forms, and we got Creighton beat in a few spots.

We have Banton who is going to be a nightmare for any team we face.

Four guys that create their own shots whenever they want in Allen, Banton, McGowens and Webster

A grade A defense with probably a top 10 defender in the nation in Mcgowens. A bruiser in Stevenson and mismatch city with Banton.

Our weakness is post play, but I do not think Creighton puts any nightmare figure like Garza down low.

Creighton may beat us, but it will not be a blowout like people think this year. This team is more athletic then our 2018 team, and I didn't that would be possible.
Hmmm...didn't look to me like Georgia Tech had any problems with the matchups with Banton. The FOUR guys who can create their own shots "whenever they want" didn't do sh## against GT. I'm not saying they won't have some games where they get hot from the perimeter and play well, but I don't see a Steph Curry on this team yet. IF anything Banton couldn't guard the smaller and quicker guards of Georgia Tech. More than once they dribbled around him to get to the bucket.

I still like this team, but I think you need to slow your roll.

Expect the Huskers to lay the wood to the Jays this weekend. You heard it here. No inside game .for Crayton. Couldn’t handle the KU bigs.
Wood, bricks. Same difference right?
98 points is the most Creighton has ever scored against the Huskers.

and the inside game didn’t seem to bother Creighton AT ALL.

As I said in the other thread. I was impressed with the first half. Creighton just flipped a switch at halftime and went back to playing like a top 10 team.

Ugh!!! The Huskers had them in danger at half. Fouls caught with us in the 2nd half and long range went cold. The officiating was horrible and was a factor in this loss

No, no it wasn’t. The fact that Creighton had 12 less turnovers did though. Nebraska shot over 40% from the field and over 40% from 3 and still lost by 24.

I repeat he is a 3pt shot away from being a lottery pick. He adds that threat he is a 6'9 player that can do everything.

Let's compare him to Roby who I was also high on as a freshman and people laughed when I said he'd be drafted.

Ball Handling = Banton
Size = Roby (Slight)
Explosiveness = Roby
Speed = Banton
Court Awareness = Banton
Height = Tie
Shot = Banton (although only slight)
Assists = Banton
Mentality = Banton
Leadership = Banton

Roby was drafted at 45, you tell me exactly why I am crazy. He is a 3pt shot away from being a lottery pick. He is a 6'9 point guard, yes that is a lottery pick type player. He gets range in his shot, he is unguardable. That is the part you don't get
He is not remotely close to a lottery pick. He is not an NBA player at this point.

Poor shooter.

Lacks quickness to defend on the perimeter. You have to have noticed his inability to keep guys in front of him the last two games. That will get worse now that McNeese State and the Summit league competition is over.

Poor ball security. Last two games against better competition he has 7 assists and 8 turnovers. Get ready for that to get worse in the B1G. There is better competition.

Banton rebounds well for a guard. He influences shots, though some are him catching up after his player has beat him. He can shoot over smaller guards at close range.

He is an interesting piece of Nebraska’s team but some of our fan base is making him into more than he is.

Creighton covering in this matchup is the easiest bet all year in any sport

I hate it, but it’s true
You were absolutely right about this. I thought it might be closer, but I underestimated NU's we-give-up factor.

I don't know if they gave up. Creighton IMO really turned it up a notch and just about everything they threw up was going in. NU couldn't buy a bucket for most of that second half but a lot of that was who Creighton turned up the D.

The officiating was horrible but the only difference it made was in the point spread. Creighton has a couple of guys how can't get off a jump shot without shuffling their feet first. When they let them hop to square up they are deadly from 3. That drives me nuts. I have a friend who played professionally and coached big at Jon Stockton's camps. He refuses to watch college and NBA basketball because he says, "they all travel".

Sam Vecenie is The Athletic’s NBA draft guy. Some highlights from what he wrote about Banton:
- During his year at WKU, NBA scouts were often on campus to see Charles Bassey, but Banton was the guy who always caught their eye because of his size and comfort as a perimeter player.

- “Extremely fluid” ... “vision and ability to read help defenders is outstanding” .... “few players in the country can hit the cross-corner kick out pass with as much ease and creativity” .... “has two jaw dropping passing highlights per night given how big he is.”

- Criticized his shot. But commented on good free throw percentage.

- “It might be better off for Banton to stay in school one more year, rep out the jumper and turn into a legitimate monster in Hoiberg’s offense. His ceiling is very high in terms of draft stock, but I do have him as a borderline top 60 guy right now. It’s just too hard to find guys like this who have that much skill and feel at his size. If the jumper ever truly improves, he’s going to be a first-rounder.”
