My mother-in-law has hallmark symptoms of Covid19: high fever, chest pain, difficulty breathing, and extreme fatigue. She lives in an area with many confirmed cases. She can't get tested, though, because they're out of tests. WTF, I thought anyone who wanted a test was supposed to be able to get one.
Time for a call to the Health Department...I
Basically when you cough or sneeze you create droplets. These are a little larger in size and will fall within a 6 foot radius. But if they are projected more forcefully, they evaporate a bit and can become aerosols that are suspended in air for much longer. Masks will catch droplets well, but aerosols can pass through a mask. You aren't very likely to run into aerosols outside in a park or a larger box retailer practicing social distancing. Most aerosol infections would happen in more crowded spaces with densely packed people. Like some churches/cults, call centers, assisted living centers, prisons, etc.
I had no choice but to go inside the pharmacy today. I'm sure the clerk thought I was nuts. I had my own baggie of Lysol wipes. The first wipe was used for the cart handle. Then I moved to the red box to get my coupons for the week. Hey, if I'm going in, gonna get my coupons. So another wipe to clean the red box screen. Then off to find Tussin. There were wide tables all around the pharmacy counter to create distance. So I yelled at the pharmacist regarding getting the right product; I didnt want to stand there and touch each box. At check out, again there was a wide table to create space. The card reader was on that table. So I used another wipe for the key pad. I held out the Tussin box for it to be scanned. The clerk took it from me, scanned it, and handed it back. Ugh. He had been touching his beard. So I got the hand sanitizer out. Then another wipe to clean the card reader before I walked off. Used that same wipe to clean the cart handle after I parked it. I seemed to be the only person in the store who had wipes, sanitizer, or Kleenex on them. Yea, maybe all of that was overkill. But I just got out of 7 days of self-isolation because someone in my house was tested. I work in healthcare; I live with someone who is at high risk. I work in eldercare. Hope I dont need to go to any store again soon.

What you're failing to recognize is that MANY of those people with underlying health concerns are still productive and in some cases extremely important to their communities. People with diabetes, autoimmune disorders, asthma etc are often Dr.s, nurses, lab techs, pharmacy techs, radiology techs, respiratory therapists...and so on. It isn't like all of the people dying from this are drooling Alzheimer's patients in the nursing home.

1. That post wasn't about that.
2. Most, if not the vast majority, of the people you list in those positions are not over 70 or 80 or 90.
3. The virus isn't going to wipe out all those people. I know this is hard, but when it's all done we will still have people with all those issues.

Putting restrictions on people won't work. It'll become the car you drive, the straws you use, the bags you use at the store, you name it, people still throw crap out their car windows.
You give your oiberties for security that can never be had.

Like a founder said, you have a republic, if you can keep it.
The definition of "works" is up in the air. We lose 130k people a year in America to suicide, drug overdoses, and homicide...while having massive income inequality and mass incarceration. The definition of freedom is a sticky one when we lose more young americans to these "accidents" in a two year period than died in combat in 4 years of World War II. Is a person who is murdered, or commits suicide, or takes their life through opiates really free? Is a person who grows up without education, without parents, without job prospects really free? To me we are at the mercy of different levels of "structure"...whether at the parent, family, community, or governmental level. So many people are against government interference but is being bombarded by fast food ads from age 3 any different than government propaganda. Trust me, I've studied communist, facist, nazi, democratic socialist governments at nauseum and I don't believe a single idiot ruling or council of idiots is any better than a thousand idiots ruling, but America does have a ruling class, and that class dictates much, and class is a bunch of idiots...and greedy, and dislocated from the pain that many americans feel and have always felt. I believe in being able to drive through a neighborhood and be able to smell every house cooking a 6:00 dinner as the family congregates outside to play some games or just chat. That reality though for most americans is long gone.

Since and during the clinton admin, felonies are more widely described, meaning, what was misdemeanors are now felonies. Our entire doj is now winning cases at the 98%.
A ruling class where people destroy congress called evidence, and a law enforcement head said theres nothing to see, preventing it from ever being seen in a court, withholding esculpatory evidence is common on anyone they want to get, from millionaires to common folk.
We are the militia, our military knows this, they desperately want the guns from our hands, make laws that are harder on the law abiding, that changes nothing at the criminal level.

We have been our own worst enemy, slowly handing it over to them, but the day of reckoning can happen at any time, and they know it.
Divide and conquer, identity politics does it best, but on things from a whole that can be fixed, without the divide.
But every chance they can get to divide, they take, but theres alot of us not following.

I get it, it's taken 50 years, more than thatas they set up the structures, bought off the leaders.
No quick fixes, many fences to mend, but all of us can do it as free men, or we can continue to keep divided against whoevers in the white house in our countries greatest time of need, or, come together as is our past, and say screw you china, someone may hate our president, but theyre our someone, and unlike you and yours china, we have those rights to do so.

I can agree with most of that. Just like you can't legislate away stupid, you can't legislate away fear and still maintain freedom for all. I'm not sure who has a disdain for education but my personal thought is that learning about how to handle the responsibility of freedom and learning sacrifice and service for the greater good are ideals best taught at home. Just like so many issues we face in our society (like the ones you list above), the lack of these ideals are failures in parental obligations.

How many on this board would have been o.k with them skipping evolution in skool and teaching intelligent design instead? I would bet at least 10-25% would be o.k if we skipped it...except now they are hoping for a vaccine that depends on being educated deeply in the science of evolution. Just one example...

Jan 14 2020 WHO states no evidence Corona Virus spreads from human to human, fact. Trump closes travel from China on Jan 31. Yet getting hammered even after the left slammed him for this move. I won’t even go into Cuomo, D’bag, Pelosi and NYC health commissioner statement as late as mid March.

A tool that fails and is being revised over and over again. A partial truth. Neanderthals weren't going ug, they believed in a higher power, they had art etc etc etc. Another partial truth, going directly against prior beliefs.

If you start out partially right but also partially wrong, then it'll slow you down, but at least admit its the best you have for now, and nothing more.
At least those looking for a cure aren't confined to the narrow minded povs when they're looking, whether they come back to those beliefs, not facts, but theoretical beliefs, or not.
I have alot of faith in folks to get this done, it isn't our time yet.

We really are the ******** country.. People suck
There are reports that there is a strong group of far right individuals who are convinced Fauci is leading a cabal to undermine Trump...and this group is behind the threats. Fauci has worked with five presidents; has led the way during many epidemics. He is beyond retirement, has served this country. Always those who feel threatened by something and want as target.

Mid march, a dem proposal to overturn Trumps travel ban. In congress, mysteriously disappeared.

Have you noticed they're already working on keeping you scared in the fall?

https://www.ibtimes.com/coronavirus-usa-second-wave-outbreak-fall-possible-fauci-warns-2949741

Might as well cancel everything for an entire year.

"Essential" or work from home employees only. Everyone else lives off the government's $1200 a month.

Be afraid. Live in fear.
I'm starting to believe that many aspects of this "crisis" is shady and over sensationalized. Projection models provided by an activist group scared everyone to shut up and obey. Misleading death calculations and seemingly blatant inaccuracies stocking the flames.

Not saying this virus is nothing. When the dust settles we shall know. I'm still hedging my bets of course just in case.

and let us know what the other side was doing
Why.. They aren't the ones in charge. It's OK to say.. Yeah mistakes were made and we will have to live with the consequences. This better not dick up the election in November because if there isn't one then Pelosi becomes President in January and I sure as hell don't want that
