The US had a chance to be a world leader on this but couldn’t step up to the mark. Part of it is due to a certain orange pedophile/rapist but that was to be expected. That is what the right goes for these days. The left goes for socialist whack jobs, so I guess that balances out... the worst part is the vast part of America has just parked their brains and nods at whatever the press says. Fox is like watching a cartoon and CNN is like an infomercial.. must be nice to live such an ignorant existence, little brain power required.... back to your ignorance, citizens...

You mean the guy that hung around hollywood and the clintons? He had dark hair.

We should march for real media after this, they have failed all of us, but most certainly its biggest failure is the truth.
We can throw bombs, or start our own fires as rome burns, as many are doing, or,we can stand up together and beat this thing.

Good info, the largest migration ongoing, year to year,is the chinese new years.
And this is how it spread. Midway, we shut off travel from china.
Thank God it happened. It was encouraged in Italy.

These are facts, and shame anyone who are thinking racism. It wouldnt matter if it were from any area. But the worst case scenario happened is all.

There isn't much to bring that you idiots won't just try to **** all over, because you are not interested in learning anything or discussing any of the seriousness of the economic, public health, and social consequences of what we are going through. You're just into defending a proven liar and idiot, and trying to ignore the serious implications of the current crisis. Have fun with that, as this mess gets worse and worse. As with most things that are manifestly wrong, time will prove these posts to be maliciously partisan and uninformed.

Good luck everyone. I'm off the board for a while. I suggest anyone interested in being safe and learning what can and should happen at a local, regional, and national level do the same. I'll be back when there is actual football to talk about.

I have indulged this poster and their wish to take time away from the board for a while. I have said a few times on this board that if you can't handle a difference of opinion in these CV threads, then stay out. Threats and insults will be dealt with swiftly and will receive a minimum one week all expenses paid trip to Chile.

There is plenty of real media...that is up to the purveyor. Many of us have slowly gravitated towards scientific driven channels and new sites, we require evidence for assertions and we are looking at the motive of a person when they make a statement. This isn't a new thing. Media is easily manipulated until it is propaganda, and media originally was nothing more than propaganda. There is a reason that such monoliths such as Nazism, Facism, and Communism rose at the same time that mass media became mainstream. Europeans couldn't even read en masse until the 1840s so although it is a newish phenomena, media has mostly been manipulative in nature. It is up to us to demand evidence and decry bad motives. The manipulator is just who they are....

i don’t understand why some people can’t admit the obvious. Trump denied the severity of the crisis early on. His inaction has and will cause additional and unnecessary loss of American lives. That is pretty much irrefutable.

While I don’t think focusing on such should be a big priority right now, I simply don’t understand how some people cannot seem to admit what is documented via the President’s own words.

I was primarily talking about February but I still don’t think the WHO being wrong completely absolves the President’s behavior in January. Better to prepare and not need it then be underprepared when you do need it.

Demand the operative word here, as the media has certain constitutional rights, with them come responsibility.
How many times someone is mao, hitler, stalin etc, we demand and rightfully, should get more.
I think it runs deeper than this, this problem, but I'm not at liberty to say.
Just look at the ignoring going on of things a man has done, like starting a recovering addict network, converted his business to making masks, donating millions to those in need, thats enough truth right there.

Trump was called racist when he shut down travel from china, the very day pelosi was in china town with cameras rolling, the same time aoc was promoting chinese restruants,
The same time new york cities health dept head was promoting parades, hell even st patricks, look to new orleans and mardi gras, which went full tilt, and now theyre suffering.
All these 'leaders' doing the wrong thing, none listening to the experts, doing the opposite, taking no responsibility, then acting like they can't call an expert, or like none gave them advice.
Then acting helpless and blaming Trump.
You want these misinformed group of wimps that was sending cities over the cliff, go ahead, we dont want tohear it.

I’m sorry, but we need to hold the President to a far higher standard then mayors.

I agree that local leaders made plenty of mistakes but if the head honcho had done a better job at a federal level early in the crisis lives would’ve been saved despite the ineptitude of certain local leaders. I really don’t understand how folks can argue otherwise.

Kansas doctors are weeks away from going out of business and laying off medical staff.

https://www.kansascity.com/news/coronavirus/article241632096.html

Guess they didn't get the memo they were supposed to be overran.

I wonder how full their refrigerated morgue trucks are?

Maybe they can send their ventilators somewhere else?

Hey, can't run out of ppe if you have no patients!

You get that this is still regional, right? There are places without large clusters. They will likely see them in the near future.

Do we? Lets think about that for a minute. You just absolved WHO, THE worlds authority, only experts in health there.
Do the cops wait for the fbi? Do governors wait for the president as their state comes apart?
Does a president have people on the ground in every city or state, on the front lines?

To me, thats inside out.
Not absolving anyone, but getting blamed by the same people while they were literally giving bad advice likely causing great harm.
It comes down to let he who hasnt sinned type thing.

Chinese New Year travelers and young and old not taking it seriously is what caused this to gain a foothold and expand. Barring a complete lockdown and martial law, there is only supportive roles and testing that can be done.

Basically trying to control a burn from a molotov cocktail through the window with invisible flames.

Well that's great news, because right now a lot of doctors are out of work or have slowed down dramatically. Every bed can be an ICU bed if the building is empty right?

Mainstream people don't care about good things the people do...ALL media outlets spend huge amounts on algorithms that tell them what people are watching, clicking, and responding to...a cute story about a person who is better than all of us just don't warrant clicks or responses. Now if they put something about people not liking him...or put "Trump" into the article then it sells. Media has flaws because it is either government funded or has to manipulate people for income. This is actually a fundamental flaw of all of society...if it is capitalist in nature then someone has to capitalize on us..not serve us, and if it is government funded then the motive COULD be to support government. That is why having critical thinking skills and requiring evidence and always investigating motive is important. Any person who reads media has to be a defacto detective.

Thats not completely the way I see it. China kept it under wraps, the WHO said as late as the 28th January that china had it under control, even as they raised alarms.
It was unknown, on purpose, and the people went on unknowingly, until they couldn't come back here.
Even great amounts of info cannot be shared in china, it is all watched.

What the berserkers aren't getting, is the old, good news doesn't sell is currently out the window, yet like old hippies of the sixties, their ldealogical ways, they continue to sell their wares from that position, knowing nothing else.
Playing a cooler than you sound bite has always worked til now, yet they can't stop, they aren't even looking down to see the edge of the cliff, they just keep rambling on.

So why do medical personnel need masks?
Is that the entirety of the post? I remember people coming on saying wearing a mask wont protect you, but if you just cut it off there, then the argument would be valid, but instead of a story, the story went on.
Giving a sense of false protdctions, the fact that once worn, those masks were spoiled, and needed more.

The fact that the stress of supplies, like we saw with toilet paper, of the public buying them up in centerville, when new york would soon need them in mass quantity, all these things played into a slightly true, but at the time, under understood pov.

Some are estimating just of the the number of cremations that upwards of 50,000 have died. Going to bet it is more than that even.

I mean, given the length of the virus and number of cases/deaths in China where this started, it would have stand to reason this was a very flu-like situation. But when you factor that in, 50k or more deaths in China in a concentrated area, all bets are off and it's played out now in Italy/Spain and here.

That being said, I was dead wrong and now we're pretty much *(((ed. Streets of WPB are dead, and so is our economy right now.

This exactly, we had rules in place to regulate the political nature of the media, the FCC ended the "fairness doctrine" that paved the way for the rise of CNN and Fox News. People wonder why the news has become more political, that's the first brick to fall.

He’s trying? So we’re giving out participation trophies now. We deserve results and his inaction early on has cost a substantial amount of additional suffering and loss of life.

For instance on February 26th we had the first day with more infections outside of China than inside. And yet on that same day, Trump said, “"Because of all we've done, the risk to the American people remains very low. … When you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero. That's a pretty good job we've done."

Watch what they themselves do, beach front, barely above water table, sea level new houses, private jets, houses and lands that could fit entire cities homeless in them etc etc.

Its just old, and the old thinking woke folk need to really see whats going on.
Controlling the narative doesn't keep people off ventilators, stop someone from getting the virus.
Its actually anti human in many ways.

Can you understand this?
Testing create known cases, nothing else does. We can assume, sure, but china is a lie. Pick a different country, as it was almost a month after we closed the door to china.
Context isnt hard to understand, Fauci was giving the same info, we just didnt know.

So, Fauci too was saying these things, no knock on him either, but keep throwing stones isnt the path forwards.

Yes, those awful people who not only do that, but then become millionaires and lie about their truths?
The problem is, some arent people with bad ideas while others are bad people with ideas, until some can figure this out, its that simple.
No one wants to pollute the world, as our country is cleaner today than it was when we all learned to change this.
However, china has s long passed us in pollutions, has no intentions of signing any accords, and pointing that out is wrong.
The real leaders that want to pollute for power and money, china.

So all those other countries who have worse per capita number on cases and deaths. Is Trump also their president? I am not saying Trump has handled this perfectly. He has made errors. For F sake the last pandemic of this level was 100 years ago, it is safe to say not a leader in the world has dealt with a situation like this before. There are going to be mistakes made. When looking at population difference US is holding pretty equally or better with most of the developed nations.
I understand it is more gratifying to bash the opposing party leaders for everything they do wrong during a crisis. All in all there isn't a GD person in the country I would trust more or less right now. They are all in the same boat. We are all in this together lets all stop playing politics, shut the F up and lets get through this together. Can go back to blaming and hating the other side when this is all over if it makes one feel better.
